Before your recitation start time Name: TA: Lab Day & time: Answer the following questions on this sheet using words, chemical structures and reaction equations as required. 1) Using chemical structures draw the complete chemical reaction mechanism of the reaction of 2 methyl 2 butanol with HCl, provide all the products and any intermediates involved (1.0 point)
2) For reaction drawn above, what is the theoretical yield if you started with 1.5 mL of 2 methyl 2 butanol (MW = 88.15 g/mol; density = 0.805 g/mL) and excess HCl to produce the product (MW= 106.59.15 g/mol)? . 1.0 point Theoretical yield = (1.5/0.805) x 106.59 = 198.61 g
