Research Paper: Digital Strategies for Online Church Ministry Ken Davis CTG: Church Ministry in the Digital Age CLCM540_B01_202220-Liberty University Professor Steve Lowe February 23, 2022
Introduction This week research is about a digital ministry strategy to accomplish the missional purpose of an online church ministry. Interconnecting, last week research with this week research, we reveal the general framework for this online church ministry by explaining how the ministry develops its structure into a digital church online. We will develop a cluster of digital church ministry strategies that demonstrates how to carry out ministry using the platform and a digital design focus on: (1) Technology, (2) community, (3) digital tools, and a digital process. Let’s take a look at how technology is defined and administered in this strategy. Technology Technology is the component of the framework on which most ministries focus, many times to the exclusion of all else. 1 Schuurman argues that technology actually encompasses a broad range of human activities. 2 The first technological activity the ministry needs is a post- website. A post-website differs from a traditional website. Bourgeois argues that he is not sure when this happened but there has been a move away from the organizational website as the primary way that people interact with organizations. 3 The HUB is not looking to become another traditional website, but a digital ministry development Centre that can accomplish the missional purpose of Christ in an online church community. The internet is the largest and most efficient digital avenue in the world. A website allows an entity to become accessible to the online community. Thompson argues that our ever-expanding 1 Bourgeois, David. Technology. networks are going to push us to rethink the boundaries of the church local and universal. 4 Then, a post-website allows a digital ministry development Centre to build a non-traditional digital community. Let’s see how the community is built. A Digital Online Community The first thing an online church should do for its community is setup social media accounts. 5 Social media and technology is here for a while therefore using digital tools like, hashtags, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn apps are the new ordinary. McIntosh argues that bringing glory to God is the church’s ultimate goal and the highest work for his people. 6 For example, Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness (Matt 10: 1-42). Technology does not demise nor hinder the moving of the Holy Spirit throughout the world. The focus on a digital community is the management of different platforms. Adding various platforms to an online community is relatable to many cultures. What is even better is having digital tools [app] connected to the social media platform is priceless. Digital Tools A websites is how you communicate with others. 7 What about communication with communities around the world? There are two ways we would like for the post-website to be structured: by a .com and NFC & QR Code. For instance, have you sat at a restaurant and notice 4 Thompson, Deanna A.
