Decodable texts can help connect the lesson to meaningful reading and writing. In fact, authentic reading and writing should make up at least 50 percent of the phonics lesson
itself!
When students read decodable text there are lots of words they can successfully sound out using their growing phonics skills. This success leads to a joy of reading!
