Bruton, Erika A HLTH 616: Health and Wellness Coaching Quiz 5 (10 points) Please write short answers to each of the following questions. What are the five basic principles of appreciative inquiry or AI? Give a brief explanation of each. (4 points) The five Appreciative Inquiry principles are as follows: 1. The Constructionist Principle: States that reality is a subjective vs. objective condition that is socially formed via words and discussions. 2. The Simultaneity Principle: States that the instant we pose a question, we start creating change. The questions we ask have far-reaching consequences. 3. Poetic Principle: Organizations and teams, like open books, are a never-ending source of study and learning. What we choose to study has an impact. It explains, and perhaps produces, the reality we know. 4. Anticipatory Principle: Human systems gravitate in the direction of their future pictures. The more optimistic and hopeful the future vision, the more positive the current activity. 5. Positive Principle: Creating momentum for local or large-scale change necessitates a lot of positive impact and social bonding. Positive questions that emphasize the positive core are the greatest way to develop this momentum. Why is it important that the coach not rush through the discovery process of appreciative inquiry or AI? (2 points) 1. The AI discovery phase is the most essential element of the coaching session. It boosts self-esteem and builds the groundwork for all that comes after. That is why it is critical not to speed through the discovery process to achieve goal setting. If in using AI, a coach cannot assist a client to move forward (and if the coach is certain he or she is not provoking client resistance), what should the coach do? (2 points) 1. It is possible that the client is dealing with issues that are more serious than coaching can address. If this is the case, it may be time to make a therapy referral. List only the 5-D’s of AI cycle that helps to guide clients through a transformational process to meet their goals. (2 points) 1. Define: The process begins with a mutual agreement between coach and client on what to learn (subject selection) and how the client wishes to study it (method selection). The AI process's efficacy is dependent on the agreement being both explicit and acceptable. Some clients may not be ready, willing, or able to apply a strength- based transformational change strategy. Clients may make greater progress with a therapist or counselor if there is no forward movement after a fair length of time by creating skills to heal or process negative feelings and experiences. 2. Discover: The AI discovery phase is the most essential element of the coaching session. It boosts self-esteem and builds the groundwork for all that comes after. That is why it is critical not to speed through the discovery process in order to achieve goal setting. 3. Dream: Once customers have identified the finest of "What is," inspire them to imagine the greatest of "What Might Be." AI stimulates the engagement of both left and right brain processes throughout the dream-making process. Several factors influence the dream-making process.
Bruton, Erika A The first is a calling question: What is life calling a client to be or become? The second question is one of energy: what possibilities excite a client? The final question is about support: What is the positive core that helps a client? It is time to move on to design when the dream becomes a target that beckons and an anticipatory field that surrounds and supports a client's best self. 4. Design: The AI process's design step gives dreams legs by striving to connect the client's infrastructure with the dream. It is critical that the design phase be as comprehensive and personal as possible. It is to encourage clients to make short-term commitments, offers, and requests. Commitments are activities that clients promise to perform in response to other people's requests. There are offers are acts that customers offer to take. Lastly, requests are acts that customers request from others to successfully execute the design. 5. Destiny: The goal of AI is to boost clients' positive energy and self-efficacy to help them achieve their goals. It is not only a feel-good process; it is also an action process that brings dreams to life and makes dreaming a part of the client's way of being in the world.
