MANDATORY MILITARY/SELECTIVE SERVICES
The youth of today’s world is headed down the wrong path, I feel that the youth can be
directed and guided toward the right path if they are disciplined and pushed to better themselves.
The military could be an effective alternative for many of the youth, to aid in creating better lives
for themselves. Some people may not be open to the youth joining the military because of the
negative impact that the military may have. The positive experience that the military could have
on the youth may help to save many of the younger generation's lives and impact them in an
unimaginable way. I believe that mandatory military/selective service should be a requirement
for all
high school
students to graduate. If the student has already enrolled in college some
adjustment can be made dependent upon the student's behavior and grades entering the second
semester of their 11
th
grade year. The benefits of this requirement include a great feeling of
accomplishment, being held accountable for their own actions and better job opportunities in the
military, not to mention in the societal norm, the civilian world.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The proud feeling that sits on your chest when you know that you have accomplished
something is a wonderful feeling that no one can take away from you. It is a celebration of
knowing that you did your best and you went that extra mile. Family upbringing has a lot to do
with the path that some of today's youth lead. Furthermore, living within a household where the
youth grow up seeing their parents serving in the military has been taught the importance of
serving their country and standing up for something that they believe in. You adapt this training
from your family so generation to generation this is installed into the lives of the child, and they
pass it on to their children.
(Bachman, J. G., Segal, D. R., Freedman-Doan, P., & O’Malley, P.
M. ,2000)
. This creates a ripple effect, and the younger youth usually goes into the military
instead of heading to the street and turning to drugs and alcoholism which then could possibly
turn into homelessness. This allows the youth to grow, be successful and this individual now
knows that they are important in this world and that they have a purpose. Creating bright strong
leaders that make an impact on the world.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The ability to know where they are heading based upon their own actions. If a student is
impacted by their upbringing where a lifestyle of rules was set in place in their home. The
student values will reflect in the decision that they make throughout their life.
(Lucier-Greer, M.,
O’Neal, C. W., Peterson, C., Reed-Fitzke, K., & Wickrama, K. A. S., 2022
). The student with a
strict and firm background will enlist into the military straight out of high school because of rules
and being disciplined into a certain lifestyle. A lot of these students are not forced to go into the
military, they go into the military because they were taught a certain way. This allows the
students to make a wise decision based on where they see themselves in the future. The students
know that they want to lead better lives and they live according to this based on how they think
and based on how far they want to go in life. Statistics show that students that go into the
military lead better lives in the military and in the civilian world.
OPEN UP DOORS BETTER JOBS & OPPORTUNITIES
Better lives, better pay, better test scores equal success, success, mission accomplished.
The
ability to be someone and make a mark on this world is a game changer. A new life, new
environment, better people in your surroundings and better doors to open possibilities are
endless. Now life feels good, no more worries, no more frustration, just relief and happier
families for the upcoming younger generation and their kids. This ripple effect can lead to
generation and generation of strong new birthed highly education individuals. Military
requirements are strict and firm, this allows the youth to think and to stay on their toes. To be
accepted into the military students will undergo strenuous tests and test scores must be at a
certain level. This testing will encourage growth and will help the younger generation to get
through more obstacles and challenges throughout life. This encourages them not to quit and give
up, so it drives motivation which puts them in the running for better jobs opportunities and
higher wages. The students accept more challenges and hurdles that life may throw at them.
Students become disciplined when they know that they are important, which pushes them into
endless opportunities that they may have never tapped into if they were not taught in the military.
(Ramos, T., Meyer, M. S., & Cranmore, J., 2021)
CONCLUSION
To conclude, all students should be required to go into the military or enroll into selective
services as a requirement to graduate. This effect will help to create more disciplined motivated
individuals that will lead the way for more generations to come. I believe that this will create a
positive effect in the youth, and you will see more successful young people that are able to thrive
and take on the challenges of this world
