9 September 2013 Booker T. Washington once said, “Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome.” In 1776, by David McCullough, this quote truly resonates the fact that it is the little things that count, as not necessarily the big picture. Although there are many pitfalls the Americans go through during the course of this story, the outcome of the war would be a positive success to the Americans. As a result, good leadership is a very important factor in accomplishing a goal. Also, encouragement is a big help when it comes to boosting a soldier’s morale. Furthermore, endurance is vital to an army

This statement by the wounded soldier fueled John’s spirit and drove fear out of his mind. He can fight bravely without worrying about being scared and not becoming distracted by war. Moreover, as encouragement starts the fighting spirit in soldiers, endurance and perseverance keeps it going. Encouragement and endurance go hand in hand because each benefits the other, and both will fail if one does not help the other. People such as George Washington showed great perseverance during the course of the war. As a result, the author wrote that, “Without Washington’s leadership and unrelenting perseverance, the revolution almost certainly would have failed” (294). This shows that Washington’s importance as a leader is crucial that pushes people on to do better than before. Because of this, endurance is vital to a war’s progress. In conclusion, a person with good leadership, encouragement, and a lot of perseverance helps soldiers and others achieve many goals. Washington is the perfect man to become a leader of the Continental Army because of his personality. Also, something little could make a big impact on someone’s life, such as the wounded soldier. Further, endurance keeps everyone on the right track and it makes the problem seem easier for every person fighting in the war. Because of the little victories, the war is
Though the war proved many characters to be courageous, it took a toll on them. “She was so tired of being strong” (295). Gaiman demonstrated this idea as well when he showed the strong as weak and weary at moments. “The only advice I can give you is what you're telling yourself. Only, maybe you're too scared to listen” (Gaiman 186).
Washington, George (1732-99), commander in chief of the Continental army during the American Revolution, and later the first president of the United States. He symbolized qualities of discipline, aristocratic duty, military orthodoxy, and persistence in adversity that his contemporaries particularly valued as marks of mature political leadership.
General George Washington is unique in many ways, such as he fights on land not on the sea. He also took very good care of his men because it says that he helped by getting inoculations to protect the soldiers from a disease called smallpox from spreading. In a way, through washington was a little strict hard to deal with. Because he sent his men on a 13_Mile walk in the harsh cold weather to Valley Forge Which imagine how hard it is. He also had his men starve and work all day, even though this maid them a little tougher in many ways it also help a lot by working together and just working on teamwork skills. In my opinion, this really toughened up his guys one way he did that is, he
One of the Americans greatest strength was the patriotism of the people who fought. They were willing to save many lives but ending losing their life for liberty and democracy. The Americans also received help overseas from the French. For 2 years 90% of the gunpowder the Americans received came from Europe from France. A Polish Jew named Haym Salomon helped finance the war effort. One of the greatest strengths the Americans had was their commander. General Washington was chosen to lead the Americans. He was a perfect leader because he had experience in the military and was a military leader. He had fought in the French and Indian War too. According to, “History Alive!” they state, “In the dark days to come, it was Washington who would keep the ragtag Continental Army together” (pg. 121) He inspired courage and confidence in the patriots.
The famous General George S. Patton attests, “If everyone is thinking alike, then somebody isn’t thinking.” General Patton led the U.S. in an invasion of Sicily and through France in 1944. Later, Patton played a major role in leading and defeating Germany in World War II through Germany’s surrender (“George S. Patton”). Perhaps most importantly, Patton was a great motivator and great leader of his troops. His ability to think for himself encouraged his soldiers to face and defeat the world’s enemy. If the General had not thought on his own and for himself, our country may not be where we are today.
There have been numerous biographies penned about the extraordinary life of George Washington. This essay will focus on Washington 's life in terms of his military career. When George Washington is examined in light of his abilities as a leader of men in battle, a complicated portrait emerges that reveals the hallmarks of a great leader: adaptability, calm assurance under pressure, the ability to inspire loyalty, and serious shortcomings, including his tendency to be indecisive and a reluctance to take responsibility for his mistakes in the field.
The states and the people believed him and fight for him so he will have a reason to fight. A source says, “At twenty-two he became Virginia’s most celebrated hero. Although often envisioned by moderns as a stuffy old man with ill-fitting false teeth, he was among the most precocious of all great Americans” (Flexner 33). George Washington was able to use his skills in direction to win the Revolutionary War. A source says, “Washington made the American Revolution successful not only by his personal military triumphs, but also by his skill in directing other operations” (“George Washington”). George Washington leads his troops through harsh, cold winters and was able to make sure they did not give up. Another source says, “Congress was unable to provide help despite Washington’s pleas in this darkest period of the Revolutionary War. Yet the troops did not lose their courage or morale” (Hollar 43). George Washington became a war hero from other people trusting him, but he had his own support system from his own
It was a dawn disp night and knowing we were going into a war we couldn’t win. We were the underdogs and they had the lead on us. British the well advantage people with the upper hand. George Washington, leading us, into a great battle in history. I felt like giving up, rather than trying and risking my life. I knew I couldn’t stop, the inspiring, motivating, independent Washington couldn’t make me give up, he was too good. I was inspired, with his words of speech and his whisk hair like snow. His outfit, flowing in the sharp winds of the soon to be defeated. We were the underdogs and had to make an upset. We had a disadvantage in every way, but we can’t give up now. It was an inspiration for our people striving to the end and taste that warm flavor of victory. It pumped my heart with determination. I knew it was a time to win and couldn’t stop now. It was time to make a difference, it was time for an upset.
When I envision the tenacity of a leader, I envision my grandfather, still young, going into the world to support his family after his father’s death. In tenth grade, he dropped out of high school to join the Marine Corps as a way to earn money for his mother and his 11 siblings. Being only 15 years of age at the time, he was not yet legally allowed to enlist. Instead of waiting, he took his chances, ran away, and illegally enlisted. After completing boot camp, his age was discovered and he was forced to return home. His tenacity was not quenched, and when he turned 18, he re-enlisted and went through boot camp for his second time. I have always been determined to succeed in any goal I pursue, and I attribute this virtue to the examples my grandfather set before
Throughout history our country has seen an abundance of great war leaders. The few mentioned in this paper are just a couple of them that flourished during the civil war. The impact they made during the war has changed our world for the better. From creating new war tactics to forcing a final surrender from the notorious General Robert E. Lee. These men shaped America into the country it is today, and in doing so allowed for slavery to be abolished.

Washington left behind a undeniable record of military and political achievement. He was not a great field commander, but he learned from his mistakes. Politically, he proved remarkably intelligent at understanding the will of Congress. As a human being,
Attack, an American war film, tells the tail of “...both a superior German force and the incompetence of their own American leader, the cowardly Capt. Erskine Cooney” (Attack 2). The captain did not help anyone by turning away from Germany. Especially when it comes to fighting for what one believes in, their passion should block out any fear or any dought that may try to creep into their head. The film, “ was considered groundbreaking for its exploration of cowardice and nepotism in the U.S. military” (Attack! 1). The significant amount of pusillanimity displayed by the captain was bad news for his men. No person wants to be under the charge of a Captain who doesn't have the courage to be a true and bold leader. Overall, perseverance will get people's trust and loyalty while weakness and turning away from problems
George Washington was a heroic man who would do anything to fight for his country. He would do anything to keep it peaceful. Although, this gave Washington many hardships trying to fight the battle in his country, but also between what needs to be done and doing what is right. George Washington is more complex than being known for his astonishing heroic activities. He was an honest man who kept his word. He never turned on people and always knew the right path to take, whether or not it was going to be difficult. He had more to devote than his techniques and battle skills.
Theodore Roosevelt was much more than the 26th President of the United States of America. Much more than the 33rd Governor of New York. He was an individual that showed all the attributes and competencies of a true legacy leader. This paper will illustrate how Theodore Roosevelt’s character, presence, and intellect truly made him an Army professional. Theodore Roosevelt was a leader and a scholar that has truly molded my military career and contributed immensely to my personal growth.
