The purpose of this assignment is to understand the range of different businesses and their ownership. I chose Sainsbury’s and Oxfam as they are businesses with different characteristics from each other, as I needed to choose one big company (such as PLC (public limited company) or LTD (private limited company)) and a small business (such as partnership, sole trader, non-for-profit business). In fact, Sainsbury’s is a supermarket and Oxfam a charity. This assignment will cover the purpose and ownership of the two businesses, the stakeholders of each business and how they affect the business.

Introduction: I will be writing a report explaining the features of a Business. The Business that I have chosen is Bristol Brunel Academy. This is a school based in Bristol, Speedwell. I will be look at the Organisational, Structure & Function as well as this I will be talking about the Stakeholders and Aims & objectives of the Business.

1) Describe the basic features that distinguish the four basic forms of business ownership sole proprietorships, general partnerships, C corporations, and limited liability companies.

There are several different types of business ownership which are most commonly used in business’ and company’s today, these include; Co-operative which is a business owned by its employees, Partnership which is a business owned by between 2 and 20 people, Private limited which is a business owner by a small groups of people who have shares and a Public limited business is owned by private individuals by shares bought and sold on the stock market. A charity is a business with the purpose to help the public, the government is a business owned by the government and lastly a sole trader which is a business owned by only one person.

For this assignment, the two contrasting businesses where both businesses have different types of ownership and liability such as one being a for-profit business and the other one being a not-for-profit business. The two businesses are Tesco PLC and RSPCA which Tesco PLC is the for-profit business and RSPCA is the not-for-profit business.

In this assignment, I will explore different types of businesses. Some of these will include: Sole Traders, Private Limited Companies (Ltd), Public Limited Companies (Plc), Partnerships, Non-Profit Businesses, Franchises, Co-operatives. In this instant, I will be exploring a Public Limited Company. Tesco.

As a business decision maker it is vital to evaluate your research resources. There are many resources available ranging from free resources to paid subscription resources, research libraries available in certain locations only, blogs, and business publications. Another alternative would be to research the company on its own website. While doing the research the researcher must be aware of the validity and unbiased research available. Free resources are a general starting point in research.

There are many differences between business organisations, beginning with the purpose and goals of an organisation. Business organisations belong to various different categories including the private, public and non-profit sectors. This assignment will discuss a business organisation from each of those sectors, outlining the purpose, objectives, and stakeholders of each. It will also discuss the different ways that global factors and market structures can impact each of those companies.

Provide an overview consisting of a brief description of the chosen company, your chosen product or service, and annual sales.

For this assessment I am going to write a report about two businesses. A large national business, and a small local business. My large business is Manchester Airport because it is a large corporation and is very easy to research about. School has also organised a trip for us to go and visit Manchester Airport where we will be able to ask questions about the business. My small business is Coca-Cola shop (corner shop) because I’ve been going there for years, due to this fact I have become fairly good friends with the business owner. This will allow me to go to his shop and ask him the questions without being nervous. I will then describe and compare the purpose aims and objectives of the two businesses. I will also look into what activities they do as a business, and who their competitors are.

What is the business model? What industry are they in? How big are they (numbers of employees, number of locations, sales, market share, industry rankings, number and size of direct competitors)? How long have they been in business: is this a “traditional” or “new” organization? Are they publicly traded or privately owned? Who owns them? Describe the vision and mission statements, and organizational goals. Do these define the business? Are they appropriate, inappropriate? In the appendix, include information like recent financial results, ownership structures, board of directors’ names and backgrounds, market share information, etc.

On this assignment i will discussing about the different ownership from two different company based on their sector, the purpose of the business,advantages and disadvantages and the performance of the business. The two businesses that i would focusing on this unit would be carphone warehouse and dog trust

I am going to talk about two organisations and how they operate. The organisations I am going to talk about are McDonalds and Chester Zoo.

Describe the Business Model of your organization. Point out salient features and drawbacks of the model if any. Suggest suitable measures to overcome the drawbacks.
