Describe your child’s academic skills between 6 and 10 and assess how well these skills are developing. The 5th grade report card will be useful for this but you should also incorporate your own observations. What are you doing to help your child? Academically, Carlos’s academic skills are appropriate for his grade level. According to the 5th grade report card, he demonstrates strength in all areas of reading and spelling. His academic achievement in this area makes sense because he always has a fiction book with him and he and I constantly talk about the books he’s reading. To advance my child’s skills in reading and spelling, I’m encouraging him to branch out and try read non-fiction books and other books that I recommend to him. Furthermore, …show more content…
He often has trouble in math, specifically in areas of mathematical problem solving, understanding of data, number concepts, graphical applications and arithmetic computation. So to help him develop his math skills further, I’ve been trying help him with his math homework as much as possible. In the future, I would like to link his interest in science and building things with his math homework to show him that he can see the interdependence between the fields of math and science. Carlos’s writing skills is also appropriate for his grade level, but I want to transfer his excellence in speaking to his writing by encouraging him to read different books genres and styles and talking to him about the book. I’m hoping that by helping him organize his thoughts in a more structured way and encouraging him to write more whether on social media or on assignments, he will become an excellent …show more content…
Authoritative is by far the best parenting style, allowing a child to have warmth, but still being able to set limits. But the extent to which I allow and encourage Carlos’s freedom has definitely changed. Back in preschool, I wanted my child to have as many experiences as possible. It’s one of the reasons that I originally signed up Carlos for baseball and soccer. In preschool, I deliberately exposed Carlos to a variety of experiences so that he would be able to find out what he was interested in - whether he wanted to or not. I was never cold to him, but out of love, I would always sign him up for different events so that he could figure out what he
This paper will address the best plan for helping Joe, an 8 year old 2nd grader meet the goals designed for him by his teacher. Joe receives Title 1 reading tutoring and I will focus on strategies for helping Joe meet each of his goals. Joe has the ability to meet each of the three goals set for him, but it will take time, consistency and some adjustments from his teachers and himself.
EDSE 4440 is a course that provides opportunities for potential educators to implement hands on activities with students at Cunningham Elementary School. Having the opportunity to work with students one on one in a classroom environment setting has been a great learning experience for potential educators. I had the opportunity to work with a 10 year old boy named Sebastian. Sebastian is in 5th grade and has been part of the After School Program for 3 years. Sebastian comes from a latino background culture. He has two siblings, a sister who is 16 years old and a brother who is 11years old. Sebastian’s favorite subjects are writing and art. Sebastian enjoys writing stories about pigs. On the other hand, the areas that Sebastian needs
After talking to his 5th grade teacher and re-reviewing his most recent triennial assessments it is clear that he is performing at above average in math and reading. His identified areas of need are spelling and writing. I believe that you all, as his gen ed teachers, are providing scaffolds
There are a lot of changes in 7th grade and a lot of the changes are really important in 7th grade, so here are 5 tips to help you as a 7th grader.
My head is spinning from all the awesome memories from Lake Elmo Elementary, K-5th grade. I’ve been through so much during my years here. Every day I learn something new. Although times can be tough, I have my teachers and friends to help me get through it. My experience here has been wonderful. Kindergarten and 1st grade have been great, 2nd and 3rd grade were amazing, 4th grade was the best, and 5th grade was extraordinary. I think school is about the little things that change your mind and the way you see the world.
Academically speaking, most of the students in this Spanish II class are proficiency in reading, writing and speaking the target language. In a recent project, they had to write a story of their own authorship, create a three dimension book, and make an oral presentation in front of the class. Most of them successfully
The school I was in for kindergarten to 5th grade there was only one class I stayed in for the entire day. My mom was little upset because her final child was starting school. When I hear “kindergarten” I think of Mrs. Otteson. She has been a great teacher who cared about my grades and wanted me to do my best. My first friend was Andrew Escamilla. We met in kindergarten and became friends from then on. We really didn’t see each other that often, because we both had different transportation to school. My teachers were Mrs. Otteson, Mrs. Blesie, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Rotoli, Mrs. Lacy and Mrs. Monnahan, Mr. Charnesky and Mrs. Blehm. Seven of eight of them cared about my grades and helped me get to the place I am at to this day.
It all started on a rainy day and in Florida, that's common. It was the second week of 5th grade and everyone was done showing there new, cute school clothes. They were back to the same thrift store clothes they had last year, but not I! I was running late because I was on the hunt for the perfect outfit! Even though it was Monday and I usually don't care at the beginning of the week, I was determined! After 30 long minutes, I finally found the perfect outfit with the perfect hairdo but all I needed were the perfect shoes to go with it!
According to the article, The Authoritative Parenting Style: Warmth, Rationality, and High-Standards, “The authoritative parenting approach is linked with the most successful child outcomes.” One of the major focuses is finding a middle ground between too much freedom, and being too strict. It reflects a balance between two values, freedom and responsibility. The responsibility allows for the child to mature and organize their lives by doing tasks such as studying, getting good grades, just make to make good decisions overall. The freedom allows them to have a mind of their own; to hopefully apply making good decisions in life. It also gives them a chance to experience how the real world is. Authoritarian parenting would disagree with this tactic. There’s a belief that if a child is granted freedom, the child is being set up for failure. They do not see the point of freedom when keeping them to high-standards and strict rules will ensure that failure isn’t an option. While I can understand the point being made, it’s a bad parenting tactic. When a child doesn’t experience any bad, how are they supposed to function in the real world? They need freedom to be able to deal with disappointment or failure when they come across it when
Mason Moreschi has a very good relationship with reading. He enjoys reading and has been reading since he was very young. Mason’s favorite types of books are realistic fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction. Although he has favorites he will read any kind of book and will most likely enjoy it. However, he does not enjoy writing as much as he loves reading. His mom would try to get him to write as much as she could, he liked to write short stories and would often show his mom his finished project. He loved to be read to or read himself, he just didn't like to write as much as he liked to read. Now, after a few years of school he has a better sense with writing with structure and proper grammar, but it is still not great. He gets confused on sentence
Every since I was a little girl I knew that one day I would become an extraordinary woman. I didn't know how, I didn't know when I just knew that God had a plan for my life. As I became older and more receptive to the word of God I begin to align myself up with the will of God for my life and trust me it's a process, baby that line was crooked for awhile, lol but in my heart I wanted to be right with God. I wanted to " do the right thing ".There were times in my life when everything seemed to be falling apart and I kept right on thanking God, I kept right on giving God the glory and that is how I survived. Don't you ever let anything or anyone stop your praise, because your praise is conducive to your breakthrough. You know I wrote this book during a time in my life when I didn't have much and I was going through some personal things in my life, and I would read the Bible for motivation and while reading one day God gave me the inspiration for "I AM MY SiSTERS KEEPER".
Jose's current grade in Math is a 1 (falls far below the standards). He does have a fair contribution to his learning in the classroom. There have not been many major or extreme behavior concerns for Jose. Jose sometimes follows directions in the class. His high interest topics seem to be math. Jose's effort towards his classwork is satisfactory. His academic skill strengths are that he puts forth effort to complete tasks using methods like counting with fingers, skip counting, or using tools (multiplication chart). Some of his skill weaknesses are that he has low reading skills; therefore, he avoids assignments with word problems, or that require reading instructions. Jose generally is not a behavior problem, he is easily redirected, but also
I was born on March 29, 2002 on good Friday. I was also on the news when I was born. 5 years later I went to Pope John and attended kindergarten and 1st grade that. I made about. 20 friends there. I then got hold back in 1st grade because of reading. I then went to E.O Muice to attend 1st grade. Then in 2nd grade I went to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. During that time there I got to tour a the battleship that was decommissioned. You got to see everything from inside the cannons to the barracks. Then after the vacation in and I moved up to 3rd grade I got to go to universal Orlando. I got to see the blue men group and go on roller coasters.
For multiplication I have allowed Andres to use snap cubes, blocks and graph paper to help him see the numbers and groups. I feel that this helps him greatly. During reading we have talked about what books he likes to read and I am trying to accomodate him by building my classroom library in that area.
Genesis is a ten year old African American female and is in the fifth grade. She lives in a low income neighborhood with her Grandmother whom has sole custody. While Genesis’ Grandmother would like to play a more active role in her granddaughter’s education, she works a full time job and has health problems that prevent her being able to drive. Genesis was in my fourth grade Read 180 class and is with me again as a fifth grader. I selected this student because she is strong in phonemic awareness, yet her writing scores are weak and she needs the most individualized support in writing.
