Acme County Office of Schools is the fourth largest county office in the state of California. It services 50 school districts and approximately 250,000 students in the Acme County through academic programs, career and technical education and the arts. They are mandated by the government to safeguard the financial activities of those school districts to be accountable and comply with the state and federal laws for funding they receive. Their goal with the government funding is to provide the students of the Acme County with the services that would allow every child, no matter their circumstances or abilities the access to a quality education in order to succeed. That internal framework would also create a moral compass to guide behavior and decision making for everyone.
In establishing the core values of professionalism, education, fairness, social responsibility, servant leadership and trust it would create an ethics plan for the Acme County Office of Schools. Those core values would be used as the catalyst to support ACOS in the mission of ensuring the success of the students of the Acme County. Furthermore the core values would strive to help the employees to use ethical thinking as the basis of their decision making and actions within the organization. In doing so it would create a culture within the organization of accountability for its core values and overall purpose.
Professionalism
As a governing body for the school districts the expectation of professionalism is mandatory. Professionalism encompasses the characteristics of accountability, promise keeping, trustworthiness, objectivity and responsibility all of which should be exemplified by all employees (Kleiner, 1997). Professionalism is not only distinguished in the level of competency an employee possesses, but also in the manner in which they conduct themselves as representatives of the organization.
Most of the interaction of ACOS employees is with the district and not directly with the students and the communities they serve, however it is still necessary for ACOS employees to exemplify respect, competence
