Ann Hopkins was an extremely accomplished member of the Price Water house community, who worked in the Management Advisory Services department of OGS. Because of her astounding productivity and commitment, she was nominated for partnership in August 1982. What should have been cause for celebration, became an intense legal battle over the discrimination that Hopkins faced during the process of becoming a partner. Hopkins eventually won her case in a hearing with the supreme court in 1989. Hopkins was one of, if not the most qualified candidate nominated for partnership during 1982. One aspect of Hopkins’ work that set her apart from her peers was her dedication, she spent countless hours working on projects to ensure the company’s success. During a large State Department contract “Hopkins… billed [2,442 hours …show more content…
Ann’s history is peppered with examples of her poor interpersonal skills, a partner at the St. Louis office said that she alienated most of her group and that she needs a dramatic improvement in her people skills (Ann Hopkins 9). For team projects to be successful, the team must behave as a unit, however, Hopkins’ demeanor would only dismantle any sense of teamwork. Also, a friend of Ann’s who was a partner at OGS named Thomas Beyer reported that she was quite critical of her coworkers. At a lunch one day “[Ann] began to criticize a number of people in the office… it got more vitriolic… [Beyer] began to get angry” (Ann Hopkins 7). This immature conduct is condemned amongst adolescents, let alone an adult such as Ann, this behavior is especially unacceptable from someone who wishes to be promoted to a leadership role. Imagine the distraction within a group setting if those in the group had to concern themselves with whether their superior was gossiping about them off the
Penny Ann Beernsten, a thirty-six year old small business co-owner and physical fitness instructor, went through a traumatic experience on the afternoon of July 29, 1985. She jogged at a stretch of Lake Michigan shoreline in Wisconsin. She was planning on meeting with her father at the beach at 4:00 PM and she started the jog at 3:50 PM, but was grabbed and taken to the woods where she was raped and deprived her of oxygen by suffocation until she passed out. When she woke up, she walked out of the woods, where couples comforted her until she found her husband and finally the police. (Possley).

1.1 Facts of the case On April 5th, 2015 Stephanie Scott was murdered by Vincent Stanford at lepton high school, where Stephanie was working at the time. Julie Fisher was employed as a surgical nurse at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital(SPPH) along with her husband Cordell Fisher, who was a pediatric dental surgeon. The defendants SPPH, DR. At 5am Officer Singh called SA Lyn Brumaire who was on duty at Coral Tower because Jordan Horvat was worried a resident of 902, Stephanie Lee, was missing. Upon keying into the room with PSO Tabiri, the resident in questions, Stephanie Lee was found to be missing from her apt. Officer Tabiri then decided to take a statement from SA and resident Macayla Caso. Ms. Horvat was also not present in the room. Ms. Caso was under the assumption that Ms. Horvat had gone home since she was packing earlier in the day and the sheets were stripped off her bed.
The underlying issues in both cases are racial discrimination. For Cheryl Boulden in the affirmative action case the issue is being “an African American woman among the good ol’ boys in Indiana.” She was recruited because of race and her permanent handicap was seen as an asset for a diversity program lacking any. Yet these qualities made her a target of racism. Susan Finn’s ethnic discrimination presents a dilemma of how to deal with a contract physician’s abusive behavior “toward Hispanics and female staff as well as patients” (Reeves, 2006, p. 79). While the issues of racial and gender discrimination is not unusual, the failure of these agencies to address multiple complaints is.
Stacy and Kathleen Peterson were murdered by Drew Peterson but the fear they felt towards Drew tortured his murder trial and proved crucial in his conviction of their murder. Their words came to life through three witnesses who conveyed Stacy's and Kathleen's remarks to jurors. Hearsay evidence, or what one person tells another outside a courtroom setting. Kathleen once told her sister Sue Doman that Drew said, “he will kill her and make it look like an accident”. Months later Kathleen was found dead in her bathtub, medical examiners ruled it to be an accidental death at first but then changed their ruling to it being a homicide once further investigation went into the case. Pastor Sherry took the stand for Stacy. Stacy told their pastor that

Fiedler’s research focused on self-reported interactions with their least preferred co-worker (LPC) and assigning a number value to their responses. Although he indicated over 800 work groups were involved, neither he nor others could develop a correlation between groups scoring high and related leader effectiveness (1967). Although no publication of hers (310) has been cited a tenth as often as Fiedler’s work, beginning in 1988 Dian Hosking has been independently and in collaboration with others a prolific scholarly writer and researcher on this topic. Her early work set forth to disprove Fiedler’s work. Hosking identified four key points of contention, all of which focus on Fiedler placing too much emphasis on one person, the leader, and not enough in the context or environment (Sage Chp 33). In the remainder of the chapter 33 (Sage), Hosking highlights her work and that of others that corroborates her work. Of particular interest is her work on the conversation and it components: the people, the domain (public or private), and the content (verbal and
