Immigration in the United States
Among the presidential candidates for the year 2016, Republican representative Donald Trump seems to have the most ridiculous and controversial campaign ideas. One of his more known campaign ideas has to do with banning Muslims from the United States. He generalized that all Muslims currently, or plan to act as, terrorists who will launch attacks on US soil. Building a wall on the border between US and Mexico is another well known idea of his, especially because he wants Mexico has to pay the cost for the wall’s construction. Even though politicians may paint immigration in a negative light, the United States relies on immigrants to help its economy, so it should not opt to throw them out of the country.

The United States expects to release 65,000 regular H-1B visas and 20,000 H-1B Master’s Exception visas in the year 2017 ("H-1B Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 Cap Season"). Regular H-1B visas are given to foreigners who graduated from college and have started working as professionals, while H-1B Master’s Exception visas are handed out to foreign graduates with Master's degrees from accredited colleges. However, without the proper level of education, it will be difficult to receive a visa. The process alone takes about 2-4 months and costs much. Some desperate people risk their lives to experience the opportunities that the US has to offer and decide to enter the country without the proper documentation. These so called illegal immigrants enter the country on land by crossing the US-Canada border or the Mexico-US border. Those who feel more desperate enter the country through boats and planes that cross over these borders. The US citizens usually look down upon and discriminate against these foreigners for invading their …show more content…
According to several studies, there is no correlation present between the immigrants and the cities they live in. One graph shows the most dangerous cities in the United States based on violent crimes committed per 100,000 residents. It says that Detroit, Michigan is the most violent city with 2,123 violent crimes per 100,000 residents and St.Louis, Missouri in third place with 1,777 violent crimes per 100,000 residents ("The 10 Most Dangerous U.S. Cities"). Another table shows the list and percentages of the metropolitans with the highest amount of foreign borns in their population. Miami has the largest share of immigrants at 38.5% and San Jose is a close runner up with 36.8% foreign born residents. (Florida). Comparing the two data, the cities from the dangerous city graph were absent in the high foreign born table. In fact, another table, which showed the metropolitans with the least foreign born born populations, included the names of four cities from the violent crime graph e.g. St.Louis, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. With the clear absence of the dangerous city names, no relationship is shown between crime rates and immigrants. Not only that, but these foreigners do not have much incentive to commit crimes. A study shows that “first-generation immigrants [are] 45 percent less likely to commit violence than third-generation Americans"
In today’s American society, there are few issues more divisive in politics than immigration. It’s an issue that’s argued in nearly every debate, with Republicans and Democrats with their own views and thoughts on the matter. The issue goes as far as dividing homes, young liberals arguing with their conservative parents on who is correct.
Immigration has played a large role in the history of the United States since the very founding of the country. As even the founding fathers of the United States were immigrants coming to the U.S. to seek a better life. For varies reasons, immigrants have been traveling to America to seek a better life whether to achieve better economic opportunity, religious freedom, and/or political refuge (Jiménez). These reasons have caused immigrants to flood into the U.S. In the most recent years’, weather to allow immigration to keep going as it is has been a hot topic for America. This controversy over immigration has grown as Americans continue to wonder if immigration is still good for the country. Therefore, the immigration controversy has many Americans
Not only do some Americans believe that immigrants take jobs away from Americans, but they also believe that immigrants bring crime to America. President Donald Trump has made numerous remarks about immigration and crime, suggesting that the two are linked. However when the amount of immigrants living in America, both documented and undocumented, increased sharply between the years of 1990 and 2010, the United States violent crime rate plummeted by 45% and the property crime rate declined by
Immigration has been a burning issue lately, particularly after Donald Trump’s immigration ban in the United States of America. It has been a topic that families discuss every morning with breakfast. Despite many concerns related to immigration, it has several positive benefits that mostly outweighs the negativity. People bizarrely argue when it comes to immigration, but these arguments are primarily based on facts and ideas that are outdated or inconsistent and blindfold the positive aspect related to immigration. Many immigrants in the United States are good workers who don't depend upon any public welfare and mostly help in the overall development of the economy. As a country made by immigrants, we must not forget the fact that immigrants have helped to build cities and create a path of development form Google to iPhones (Gray & Furman, 2012). These facts are secluded, and some related arguments with different content have been repeated for years and continue. Immigrants have a lot to give the United States rather than to take, especially when it comes to economic terms.
Immigration is currently a hot topic, within in the United States government. Currently the United States Congress is fighting to decide the fate of the Dreamers, and the Immigration bill DACA. Like many controversial issues within the government, the Democrats and Republicans are in a disagreement on what to do. Each article, examines a different take on the current immigration reform. Bier’s main argument is that individuals who are contributing to immigration reform are ignorant, that Immigrants are not hurting the American Labor market. The next article, I examined, was written by Eric Cantor; Cantor states that although the parties each have a high stake in the decision, Congress makes on DACA, there must be a decision otherwise, the law will remain status quo. Next, we look at Gessen’s article, the main argument is that immigrants should not be looked at valuable or illegal, they should not have to be talented in order to be welcome within the United States. Lastly, Vargas, an undocumented Immigrant, discusses the difficulties of being illegal within the United States, yet still shines a light on the positive influences he had throughout his childhood and time in America.

Since the last Presidential election, many arguments have been sparked on current immigration policy in the United States. Whether it be mayoral intervention on Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) raids, or deploying the National Guard to the US Mexico Border, immigration has been at the forefront of the latest greatest political kerfuffles. Politicians and lawmakers have argued for decades on the viability of laws and regulations protecting, as well as directing, immigration in the United States. According to the American Immigration Council, federal law only allows for 675,000 immigrants a year. Realistically, however, this is nowhere close to the number of aliens that entire the United States each year. Unfortunately, current immigration
Matt Mendoza believes in immigration reform, but we must put into place a firm foundation to build upon, a foundation that is rock solid in protecting America’s borders and its citizens by forcing Washington to fulfill its Constitutional duty of enforcing the laws we already have in place.
Immigration reform in the U.S. is at the forefront of American policy and news. In the U.S., a country effectively founded by immigrants, immigration and immigration policy are extremely politicized and dividing topics. The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program has been the most recent target of reform for the Trump administration. DACA was originally created as an executive order by President Obama in order to protect illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as children, were educated or are receiving education in the U.S., and work or are seeking work in the U.S.. DACA’s protection was that it delayed deportation for these individuals, commonly referred to as Dreamers. According to VOX writer Dara Lind, the program protects
The Article Immigration Policy: Should the U.S. government take stricter measures to limit illegal immigration (February 9, 2017), focuses on whether the U.S. should adopt stricter measures for illegal immigration. Supporters believe that illegal immigrants pose a threat to national security. Undocumented immigrants are not in the system, so their criminal records are inaccessible. Additionally, supporters believe that immigrants take the jobs of Americans. Companies tend to give immigrants jobs because they will work for cheap wages. However, the opponents of the law believe stricter measures for illegal immigrants shouldn’t be done because most of the country's technological breakthroughs are due to immigrants. Opponents believe that immigrants help the economy because they take the jobs that not many workers take, such as farming or physical work. Immigration policy argument will continue until there is common ground established between everyone whether to there should be stricter measures or another way for them to become documented.
Immigration is such a complicated topic. I really didn’t realize everything that went into it until I got to college and was able to vote myself. Although I have written thousands of words on this topic, I still am unsure if I can for certain say that I completely agree with one side of the argument or the other. What I do believe is the fact that immigration is a touchy issue, especially within the United States, and each case should be looked at differently.

Illegal immigration, a hot topic among many Americans. Many americans seem to think that illegal immigrants are the sources of all the nations problems. The question that remains is are these people right? While illegal immigrants can cause some issues throughout the nation such as higher crime rates, terrorist threats, and disadvantage to american workers, they also do many good things such as boost the economy, add more cultural influence, and provide a cheap labor force.
According to UNHCR a refugee agency, 65.3 million people are living in war zones. Another 5.5 billion people of all faiths face some form of religion persecution, including physical violence. People are unsafe in their own countries and homes, so they escape to other countries in search of a better chance at life. However, some of them break the rules to gain access to other countries. This results in illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is a major issue for countries around the world. According to Pew Resource, 11 million unauthorized immigrants are living in the United States. An illegal immigrant can be defined as a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or without a visa. This phenomenon is making countries blame
Immigration is the movement through which an individual permanently moves from their place of residence from one country to another. Immigration is a topic which divides political parties and general debate. Whilst some people see the positives of immigration, such as the filling of skill gaps in low and highly skilled jobs, others see the negatives of immigration, such as the strain on services such as the NHS, schools and housing.
