Effective communication platforms and current technology allows employees to deliver their core duties and assist the organization to achieve their stated goals and objectives (Anaeto, 2010). When examining the social factors of our organization, it is noted that a tight cohesion exists within a number of clinical team members where these members often engage in after work activities. That being said, clinicians tend to exhibit “silo” behaviour that presents itself as a feeling of superiority compared to their colleagues as well as fractionating the larger clinical team. This clearly does not reflect the concept of the “collaborative care team” and represents an issue that senior management is attempting to correct. Relationships between head office administrators and clinical staff that are community based were once disconnected and strained as the clinical staff felt that administrators did not fully comprehend their job responsibilities. In light of this, multiple strategies such as clinical focus groups and targeted clinical meetings with “clinical champions” in their respective disciplines were held. Culture can be defined as “a set of basic tacit assumptions about how the world is and ought to be that a group of people share and that determines their perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and, to some degree, their overt behaviour” (Schein, 1996). Organizational culture is depend on differences in norms and shared values which are learned in workplace and to direct behaviour of members in the particular organisation. (Cabrera, Cabrera& Barajas 2001) Organisational culture was built on its shared beliefs and values which was the guidance to solve problems.
When becoming a social work major, culture and diversity were themes expressed in each and every class. A good social worker must have the ability to be diverse. Therefore, cultural competence became a central theme. With that being stated, it is important to define exactly what cultural competence is. The National Education Association (NEA) defines cultural competence as having an awareness of one’s own cultural identity and views about difference, and the ability to learn and build on the varying cultural and community norms of students and their families. Cultural competence is a characteristic that is in great demand in social services and child welfare practices. More and more classrooms, doctor offices, etc. are becoming diverse.
The organization culture as a leadership concept has been identified as one of the many components that leaders can use to grow a dynamic organization. Leadership in organizations starts the culture formation process by imposing their assumptions and expectations on their followers. Once culture is established and accepted, they become a strong leadership tool to communicate the leader 's beliefs and values to organizational members, and especially new comers. When leaders promote ethical culture, they become successful in maintaining organizational growth, the good services demanded by the society, the ability to address problems before they become disasters and consequently are competitive against rivals.
