I this section I will succinctly touch on the historic preservation measures that are already used in full force outside of the U.S. Historic preservation methods for protecting the street artists’ works is not a new idea. The number of countries that initiate historic preservation of the culturally valuable street art murals grows every year. Switzerland, the Great Britain, and Germany are amongst the first nations to recognize famous street artists’ works and list it in their historic preservation registers. Moreover, the countries that already utilized historic preservation laws as means of protecting the street art no longer are puzzled by finding the reasoning for the street art preservation, but rather are concerned with the means …show more content…
Banksy’s projects always revolve around a key idea relating to the site and time specific political and socio-economic issues. Banksy is known for condensing complex global issues, not always at the attention of the general public, and putting his stance on the issue in very simplistic terms through his art. He gained a major following across the world of all ages and socio-economic beginnings. Another aspect that makes Banksy very likable to the communities is the fact that he wants his art to be public and available to everyone in all the parts of the world, instead of just a handful of high end galleries, museums, and private collector’s cellars. Moreover, the Banksy Effect was a central force to bring attention to street art, not vandalizing and meaningless to the majority graffiti, and put it on an international art arena. Bristol is not the only city in the world embracing the street artists. Miami, Baltimore, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Melbourne, and many more cities are progressively embracing street art rather than repelling it. Thus, in the next section I will turn to the discussion on the public policy in favor of Banksy and his fellow street artists, current possible legal avenues and briefly touch …show more content…
The list usually grants protection to only the monuments from the ancient eras. However, Blek Le Rat’s Madonna was awarded protected status in only three months. The work must be recognized as high-quality art and it must be representative of the time period it comes from. According to Annekatrin Merrem from Leipzig’s Office for Monument Conservation, Madonna is considered one of the last representatives of the post-reunification period, and thus, is treated as the work especially deserving of protection. Furthermore, Le Rat’s work tells a touching love story. He dedicated Madonna to the lady he was in love with, Sybille, whom he met in Leipzig and now is married to for over 20 years. The mural is shown
Today there are world known graffiti artists, Aryz, Kaws, and D Face are just a few. Any artist wants to be recognized and have their work appreciated. That is why public property is so appealing to the graffiti artist. A train car moving throughout the city with your mural on it will be seen by hundreds, even if its up for a small period of time. Most graffiti artists take time to create a piece. It takes a lot of planning and effort to make a great piece of art. Graffiti artists are all about techniques, you need to be able to show you are an expert in your medium. It’s also important for a graffiti artist to find an imaginative spot for a mural, so it’s obvious that it’s hard work. To make graffiti a piece of art it must have purpose and inflict emotion on its audience, which is why the forcefulness of the urban environment is as much as part of the artwork as the graffiti itself. Taggers have no real reason to create graffiti. Nor is what they do visually pleasing.
“In contrast to government-commissioned public art, street art is illicit and subversive in nature. Therefore, most street artists, including Banksy, use pseudonyms to avoid legal prosecution for vandalism.”(Chung 27) Banksy’s street art does not focus on competing with rival artists, but focuses on engaging with a broader audience in a deeper level. He provokes his audience by deeply expressing out various social practices that helps viewers to reflect and confront certain aspects together as a community. (27) The underlying message of Banksy’s art can lead towards an active involvement of street art within the community.
Known for his contempt for the government in labeling graffiti as vandalism, Banksy displays his art on public surfaces such as walls, even going as far as to build physical prop pieces. Banksy does not sell photos of street graffiti directly himself; however, art auctioneers have been known to attempt to sell his street art on location and leave the problem of
Vincent Van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853 at the Zundart Netherlands. Vincent Van Gogh was a post impressionist. Van Gogh's paintings stand out from other artists of his time. The colors he used most were lemon yellow and blue. His self-portraits are wet with blue background, coat, and eyes, and with a yellow face, beard, and hair. Stars and books, which were his passion, were painted yellow.
Vincent van Gogh is one of the most celebrated names in modern art. He is considered one of the most prominent painters of all time. However, during his brief art career, he was left unknown to the art world, and few people knew of this genius till his death. He did not receive the appreciation he deserved in his lifetime. Instead, he was treated as an insane outcast.
The reason he is able to continue to release controversial art in highly populated, public places without consequences to his person solely because of his anonymity, and that his work represents itself enough without him. His work is criticized by many, but as it is an inanimate voice of opinion, Banksy is able to use it to his advantage, and plaster his opinion on current issues, wherever he can/wants.
Graffiti artists have the constant threat of facing consequences for displaying their art. Many of them choose to protect their identities so they remain anonymous. Banksy is the world’s most notorious and well-known street artists who to this day remains faceless in today’s society. His tags are well-known for his anti-war, political stencil art. His work is seen from Bristol, England to anywhere from Los Angeles to Palestine. Pixnit is another artist who chooses to keep their identity anonymous. Her art focuses on beauty and design aspects of graffiti.
Vincent Van Gogh did not become famous until after his death at the age of 37 in July of 1890. He was born in March of 1853. Van Gogh would be known as a troublesome boy who kept to himself and went on long walks through the country side. His mother Anna Cornelia Carbentus and Father Theodorus (Dorus) Van Gogh struggled to understand their eldest son, this constant struggle would shape their relationship and Van Gogh’s life for years to come.
Vincent Willem van Gogh is considered as one of the most renowned artist/painter in history, but like many others, his legacy and talent was brought to light after his death. While suffering from mental illness and poverty throughout his life, he was still able to capture the essence of beauty and color through his expressionistic, abstract technique as well as influence in Japanese art. His works accumulate to 2,100, consisting of 860 oil paintings, and more than 1,300 watercolor, drawings, and sketches. Van Gogh, being a post-impressionist artist, is stated to be the greatest Dutch painter after Rembrandt. Van Gogh’s work is now recognized by many; from his art being sold for little to nothing, is now sold for millions.
In 1853 Vincent Van Gogh was born into a loving family. He got everything he wanted from his parents, since he was an only child. His dad worked for an oil company. He was a manager and wasn’t around very much. His mom on the other hand didn’t work and was with Vincent all the time. By the time he was 10 years old, his dad moved his family to France so they could have a better life.
There is a beauty in every art that is exposed and society appreciates the art that Banksy has given. When people think of street art they automatically assume it is just a mural or graffiti on an empty wall at a stranded building or community. Banksy art movement brought unity through the surrounding of people that enjoy looking at his artwork. Banksy brought a new twist to the meaning of street art. The art movement that happened in October 2013 in New York was unforgettable and people of New York were the city to experience it first-hand.
The nature of Banksy’s work is iconoclastic in the way he blatantly designs images to rebel governmental authority or depict the failings of
As graffiti recently transitioned to a more respectable art form, it developed a more respectable name: street art.
As Banksy’s artwork spread throughout the world the prices of his paintings went up as well. A painting of a girl in an astronaut suite holding a yellow bird sold for $576,000. After this picture sold Banksy posted on his website a painting of an art auction with the words, “I can’t believe you morons actually buy this shit.” He calls the art world, “the biggest joke going ... a rest home for the over privileged, the pretentious, and the weak.” Banksy takes pride in telling people his opinion of their actions. His website post against people buying his paintings for a lot of money is a sign of just how much he dislikes the use of money in the world. I think this proves that the goal in creating his graffiti art is not to make a lot of money but to let his opinion be heard on all kinds of controversial topics. His strong opinions may also be because of his anonymous identity.
Banksy is a very renowned street artist who keeps his identity unknown. His artwork is portrayed by “striking images, often combined with slogans, [which] engages political themes, satirically critiquing war, capitalism, hypocrisy and greed” (“Banksy Biography”). He first started his bold street art in Bristol, his hometown located in London, but quickly spread to the United States of America. In the U.S., Banksy targeted the most populated cities; this was due to the fact that it was easier for him to spread his messages. With a crowded location, his lessons will extent over an audience much quicker.
