Banning Social Media In The United States

    People do not realize the immense impact social media has on their lives.  Social media first impacted people’s lives with the invention of the telephone in 1890.  Following this, the radio entered many homes in 1891; this was the beginning of social media.  During the twentieth century, computers and the Internet began the modern rise of today’s social media. UseNet, in 1979 was a virtual newsletter, which began what people think today of as modern social media.  When home computers became popular during the 1980s, such sites as relay chats took off.  Then, in 1997, the first true social media site , Six Degrees, came about: “It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that’s still popular today” ( “Complete History of Social Media: Than and Now”). Although social media has some positive effects,  social media has changed the world for the worse because it negatively affects politics, privacy, and bullying.

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, what do they mutually have in common? They are all social media websites. Social Media has become the number one way to communicate with other people from around the world. It has been beneficial and helpful to many, on the contrary harmful to some. People use social networks to catch up with a childhood friend, endorse their business, or develop news faster. Other people use it to steal identities, cyberbully, and abuse others. The ability for businesses to be able to communicate easily with customers promotes the company?s brand, makes the brand more visible, and, often makes customer service better. Social media censorship has a big impact on American society where there's been a lot of control over what someone can post on the internet. The companies have created strict policies towards what people can post and a lot of the users are not happy.The big problem is that social media companies have too much power with censoring what people say and read, which is limiting people's freedom of speech and I don’t believe that companies should censor a lot of the things people post in social media unless is something bad that can harm someone. Companies find ways to censor people's media post either because they believe it can hurt a country's image or they believe others wouldn't like it.

What is cyber terrorism exactly?
