Leadership can be defined as the action of leading a group of people or organization. Although leadership has never been assigned to or defined by a race, it was a position that black African Americans were not used to holding. However, America thought it was time for change. In 2008, Barack Obama was named The President of the United States of America. Barack Obama made history, developed a health care plan, and overall he was more popular than previous presidents. Barack Obama was the 44th President of The United States of America. Obama was America’s first African American president in history. On November 4, more than 69 million Americans voted for Obama. Barack Obama was the first sitting U.S. senator to win the White House since John Kennedy in 1960. Despite America’s past of slavery and segregation, Americans put their faith in Obama. Obama made it evident to all viewers that he knew it would be a challenge, but he reassured Americans that he would do what was best for them and that it was time for change. In his acceptance speech Obama said “If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders are is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.” …show more content…

Obama developed a health care plan that was affordable for all Americans. This health care plan was intended to improve access to health insurance for US citizens. It was known to the people as “Obamacare”, but the official name of this law was the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The Act required Americans to have health insurance for at least nine months out of the year or be taxed.
