Breitling Watch Changed My Life

The Breitling watch has a steel strap with a blue face bordered by two buttons and a dial. The dial winds the watch’s gears and changes both the date and time. The buttons start and reset a built-in timer. Scratches can be found around the bottom of the strap and around the watch’s face, but otherwise it is kept clean and polished. This watch was a graduation gift from my father. He gave it to me over dinner the night of graduating from high school and said that it was because he wanted to give me something to show his appreciation for the effort I put into studying for 4 years. As I put it on for the first time he asked me if I knew why he got a watch as a gift. He proceeded with a question, “What is the most precious thing in life?” The most precious thing in life is the one thing that you will always use and never get back, time. At that point the watch slowly changed my way of thinking about others reminding me that this life is mine. There are stories of people that would sacrifice themselves for the joy of others, but in the end that would make those that care for those people sad. I would rather be the one who lived making every second count not only by helping others but also helping myself in order to bring about a tomorrow where everyone can smile. Some may see this attitude as selfish, but I think it is more optimistic for a future that can benefit everyone including myself. This memory also served as an impetus for work habits. Engagement is an important factor in any life project whether that be forming a thesis for a college course, planning a large family meal, or preparing a presentation for coworkers. Planning ahead helped designate periods of time where I could engage in large projects efficiently as opposed to forcing myself to complete something in the length of three to four hours.
