CBS Corporation has adopted such strategies in the television programs. For example, many movies which are broadcasted on CBS channels are produced by Paramount, a movie production company owned by Viacom. In this example, CBS TV channels is the way to distribute media content while Paramount is the way to produce such content. The vertical integration is a useful method of advertising the company and impacting social relations. The culture of the company is distributed to people who value the company, such as subscribers of CBS channels. Horizontal integration is the integration across the media landscape. This integration is obvious in such a giant media conglomerate. CBS Corporation covers the field of radio, publishing, television and online properties. In this way, some important materials can be widely broadcast and learned by many customers.
One thing I found interesting is that CBS once produced many classic movies, such as Roman Holidays. This movie is actually produced by CBS Film Inc, which is the former Viacom. Later, as we know, Viacom owns some excellent movie production companies such as Paramount. The movie-producing positioning of Viacom decided its company strategy to move forward in movie industry. And this advantage in movie production assists the CBS Corporation to develop in the movie industry before the split in 2005. It is so interesting
Vertical integration is a concept in which a company develops or acquires production units for outputs which are
Horizontal refers to the idea of one firm joining with another at the same stage of the same production process. It also allows for greater market share; achieves economies of scale; and an opportunity to enter a different market segment. An example of this would be Ford’s takeover of Volvo - both being car manufacturers.
(2) Cost reduction: Paramount & Viacom both have economies of scale and are doing business in a similar industry.
The company’s core competency is the streaming of TV series and movies. Their corporate strategy is differentiation. They also produce TV
Horizontal integration involves buying out other companies and taking over one single step of an industrial process. It establishes a monopoly because, with horizontal integration, everyone must go the company that has monopolized that step.
For example; American Broadcasting Company a.k.a. ABC is a Nation Wide commercial broadcast television networks. The American Broadcasting Company is an American commercial broadcast television network that is owned by the Disney–ABC Television Group, a subsidiary of the Disney Media Networks division of The Walt Disney Company. Categories like drama, comedies, reality shows, game shows and more are all examples of networks on ABC. There are thousands of other great programs that i so happen to come across based on the agendas and goals of my

As his list of short stories, children’s books, essays, and screenplays grows, so does his list of credentials. He has taught workshops and seminars across the world, written for The New Yorker countless times, received an academy award, and been recognized by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top 100 most creative people in the entertainment industry. He continues to teach at Syracuse University, and recently published his first full novel, Lincoln in The Bardo. The Red Bow
Though Silverstein spent his early life serving in the U.S. Army during the 1950’s in Japan and Korea, he wrote for the Stars and Stripes throughout his time-serving (“Shel Silverstein Biography: Author, Illustrator, Poet, Songwriter (1930-1999)”). For example, during this time he wrote: “Hug O' WAR” (“Shel Silverstein Quotes”). After his service in the Army, Silverstein was a cartoonist for many magazines, and when he joined Playboy he started his career of writing poems and songs (“Silverstein, Shel”). More importantly, Silverstein was introduced to the distinguished book editor at Harper and Brothers, Ursula Nordstrom, who convinced him he could write for children ("Shel Silverstein Biography: Author, Illustrator, Poet, Songwriter (1930-1999)").Though he never intended to write or draw for children he ended up writing some best seller children’s books in the world ("Shel Silverstein Biography: Author, Illustrator, Poet, Songwriter (1930-1999)"). Silverstein was not afraid to delve into new adventures as noted, “you can't fall if you don't climb but there's no joy in living your whole life on the ground” ("Shel Silverstein Biography: Author, Illustrator, Poet, Songwriter (1930-1999)").
Based on the previous module assessments, NBC Universal’s preliminary focus should be geared toward the film industry. The recent trade deal, between both the U.S. and Chinese Governments, lowered a 20-year-old quota on U.S. films and distribution fees in the Chinese film industry. This signifies productive progression within the film industry, even though small in nature, but nonetheless this could equate to significant profit gains for all the FMO’s within the market.
Stephen King is perhaps the most widely known American writer of his generation, yet his distinctions include publishing as two authors at once: Beginning in 1966, he wrote novels that were published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. When twelve, he began submitting stories for sale. At first ignored and then scorned by mainstream critics, by the late 1980’s his novels were reviewed regularly in The New York Times Book Review, with increasing favor. Beginning in 1987, most of his novels were main selections of the Book-of-the-Month Club, which in 1989 created the Stephen King Library, committed to keeping King’s novels “in print in hardcover.” King published more than one hundred short stories (including the collections Night Shift,
Each one of the five divisions focus on achieving all three objectives that make up the Company’s corporate strategy, the first division, media networks, focuses on the domestic and international acquisitions and internal development of cable networks that are comprised of the ABC television network and television production. The Walt Disney Company’s highly concentrated U.S. domestic television production of its ABC television network, led to eight local television stations where six out of those eight television stations are based in the 10 biggest television markets in the U.S. The Walt Disney Company achieved this market position by acquiring the already existing business that was formerly
The film industry has always been somewhat of a dichotomy. Grounded firmly in both the worlds of art and business the balance of artistic expression and commercialization has been an issue throughout the history of filmmaking. The distinction of these two differing goals and the fact that neither has truly won out over the other in the span of the industry's existence, demonstrates a lot of information about the nature of capitalism.
To maximise a company profits the same company has to maximise its reach with the public. So, instead of owning only the sales of a product, the company owns the production and distribution of that same product. To make it more simple, instead of owning just a film, the media company owns the studio in which the film was shot, the cinemas where people can go and see the movie, the stores where people can go and rent the movie, the record company which releases the soundtrack and the stores which sell them, and the company which produces all the essential memorabilia (such as T-shirts,
To become vertically integrated, a company trying to enter the strategic group would need to acquire several companies in different areas of the entertainment industry. These acquisitions would be highly capital intensive and very risky for a new entrant.
