After taking CIPD the advance diploma level 7 course and moving into a new company to work as training and development supervisor. I started looking into things more differently. I discovered after completing this learning outcome that I have lots of gaps that I needed towards. Due to my previous experience in dealing with teams, I started reading more online about the characteristics of effective teams. Therefore, when I joined a team this time, I took the leadership of the group to ensure we are going on the right track and test my capabilities. The course made me understand that I love to take authority and I have direct style where I act like a forceful taskmaster and apply pressure on others to achieve results (evidence 1.1). I ensured
After consulting with my team members and hearing their thoughts, I gained a lot of insight as to how my performance as a team leader was. I asked them to give me their thoughts on my first week of being a team leader and then I asked them again in regards to my second week of being a team leader. The changes they told me about were quite surprising. For starters, my team told me that my first leadership week wasn’t too great. They said I was not vocal or authoritative enough so they didn’t really know what they were supposed to be doing while we were out of class. Also, during my week we were doing the video assignment and they said that during the meeting which we were recording, I was too quiet and wasn’t leading the discussion like a leader should. Overall, they said I did not act or communicate like a leader during my first week. Now, following my second week as team leader, there were some major changes in the group’s feedback. During this week we started working the T6 assignment, and this time the group told me they had a much clearer idea of what their roles were as I assigned everyone a task. For example, Lisa and Kerine were assigned to revise the T2 and T4 assignments and they felt much better about knowing what it was they had to do. In sum, after my second week as a team leader my team members responded saying I was much better with communication and actually leading them.
I spoke with Ms. Valerie on July 31, 2017, at 6:58 p.m over the phone. Ms. Valerie stated that the client Bryce Linder verbalized that an advocate Leslie McKeown slapped him in the face. Then later she stated that the advocate Catina Hampton slapped him on the left side of his face during a group session, held at the HCAP office Located at 4120 Directors Row Suite D. Ms. Valerie stated that Bryce informed her that Catina verbalized to the client, “I have to slap you because you were being disrespectful during group.” Ms. Valerie also mentioned that Catina filed a CPS report on the family because Bryce stated that his former therapist molested him in the past and no one reported the incident. The advocate went out of town for a family emergency the week of July 24 –July 30. Ms. Valerie stated that Catina Hampton asked her if it was ok to take care of her two dogs during the time that she was out. Ms. Valerie stated that one of the dogs died from overheating and the other dog was stuck under the house.
This simulation was the most challenging for me thus far. During this simulation, what resonated with me most was the importance of prioritizing and patient education. In order to successfully complete this VSIM I had to ask the patient how she was breathing despite seeing the 02 level rise and I also decided to give her a breathing mask before giving her an incentive spirometer to encourage her to cough, which in hindsight was common sense. It was surprising to find out this patient smokes even though she has a history of respiratory issues. I imagine that in a real life situation she would receive some patient education about the dangers of smoking and maybe patches to help quit. Overall, I enjoyed this VSIM because I had to correct a lot
As part of my Business Innovation Development Project Unit, I had the opportunity to put myself into group with my friends or people I believed I could work well with. In the first stages of our group we all tried to get to know each other more through analysing personality and learning types’ test that we previously undertook. I realise we were going through the normal stages of the team formation in particular forming and norming (Tuckman, 1965). In my assignment group we had all Belbin team roles which helped us perform well throughout our project and also helped us to identify other team members’ behavioural strengths and weaknesses. During the initial stages of the group getting together I believed it was
Counselor received the JRSC report back from the session's Julia participated in on July 18th & 25th and August 3rd & 10th.
During my time at Citizens Advice Direct, I learned how to provide confidential telephone advice and information to a wide range of individuals on a variety of matters. I learned how to deal with various enquiries every day from people needing advice on debt, benefits, employment and other issues. I also learned how to research, analyse, evaluate and effectively apply large amounts of legal materials to various scenarios. More importantly I learned how to effectively communicate large amounts of legal materials to individuals.
The first thing I learned from the PT is that you can have any major and still apply to PT school as long as you take the required classes. PT schools look to diversify the majors and students they accept. The first thing I learned from the OT is that you do not have to take the GRE to be accepted into some OT schools. The process for applying was all online and was straight forward. The first thing I learned from the PA is that patient care hours are huge. She recommended that you have them anywhere from 1,000 to 8,000 patient care hours when applying.
As a top manager in the company sometimes it requires so much more than always being charismatic and sympathizing with others because certain situations encountered may require you to be more direct and decision oriented. The first step I should take to develop my skills is to be more direct I tend to hide behind my feelings for the sake of others thoughts about me which causes a blockage when I have really good ideas. Next, I would work on analyzing situations more before I take action. By doing so it would eliminate a lot of confusion when communicating with others. Lastly, I feel that I need to work on being aggressive by coming forth and stating my ideas rather being the one to always listen and implement others ideas within a project. Having a voice in an organization, meeting or task doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it truly does affect my performance and ultimately how I feel about working with others. Ultimately, these strengths have combined to make up my identity while having helped shape some of my best professional
This leadership experience is an accurate demonstration of my credentials and a large source of my purpose. I am organizing this overnight conference, seeking to improve the leadership capacity of students by encouraging them to discover their individuality and bond with other leaders. As MOCA, I update the schedule with minute-by-minute details; delegate roles to the security team, mentors, and executives; draft the itinerary and timeline; negotiate venue and transportation prices; and communicate with sponsors. This experience has taught me how to use budgets efficiently and improved my organization skills. I have also learned that with purposeful action and passion, I can leave a mark and create positive change in any vocation I pursue.
The details of organization structure are part of this experience, our struggles in firing a member, working together on details, and communicating clearly were all evident last week. I felt like we needed to fire one team member before last week. There had been no response, and I knew it was going to hurt the team effort; but I also felt like the person needed an opportunity to contribute, as well as not wanting to be the team member who expressed the idea of firing someone else. If I can go back to chapter nine, I believe groupthink caused each of us to hesitate, even when we all knew what needed to be done. The third question on the assessment dealt with the genuine belief that others can do as well as I can, and I answered mostly true. I do believe that all people are capable, and need opportunities to succeed and prove it to themselves, but question seven was also answered mostly true, which stated that I get upset when someone doesn’t do the task correctly. That is the contrast between the perfectionist in me and the delegator. I enjoy the text messages and conversations on discussion boards in the collaborative work of classes, but when it comes to a team project, I worry about someone else not being as motivated or not getting the work in on time. I don’t mean that about my team members right now, I am reflecting more on past team projects in school. It has always been a couple of us doing most of the work, so we could bail
Moreover, this course assisted me in learning how to create a team charter in which it has showed me my strength and weakness. A Team Charter helps “team members recognize their complementary skills, their common purpose, common goals, and mutual accountability” (Byrd & Luthy, 2010, p. 14). It made me understand how to be prepared for any arising conflicts and how to manage it. ”Conflict management works best when the parties involved in a disagreement are equipped to managing it themselves” (Weiss & Hughes, 2005). I also learnt the importance of feedback and feed forward. "Feedforward helps people envision and focus on a positive future, not a failed past" (Goldsmith, 2002). How it puts the employees in a check list in order to spot where they are wrong and perform better. “Effective feedback helps the coachee see the gap between intended performance and actual performance" (Payne, V. 2007). The requirements needed to excel and improve in their workforce. ”Employees can provide useful input on the effective of procedures
During the last six weeks, I have learned a lot about the true meaning of a good leader. The discussions have helped me identify what my strengths are and what are the areas that I need to improve on. Although, I have been in management roles, I would not identify myself yet as a leader. I am a very result driven individual which is strength of mine, but that can also lead me to be desensitized to other’s emotions or challenges they might be facing. Throughout the course, I have also come to realize that I have limited self-awareness. On the contrary, one of my strengths is my social awareness. I have the ability to go into social or networking events and pick up on emotions, or facial expressing to understand the overall mood of that environment. To be socially aware is particularly beneficial because, I can find common ground with anyone I meet to initiate conversation. Therefore, when I see that person again, I can make those personal connections. Another one of my strengths is the ability to look at a current process and streamline it to a leaner, more effective and efficient way. During the last several years I have been hired to be the visionary of new divisions and to implement processes that would support the company’s vision and mission while still driving results. My values are what contribute to the success I have been able to achieve over the years, however. My resilience and work ethic towards my job shows through in the
Q1 What do you consider were the three most important things (planned or unplanned) that you learned last year? Please also briefly describe how they were learned?
As a college student, I was unware of the steps I’ve taken that could hinder or improve the growths of my management skills. The new insights gained from these assignments conducted have enlightened my understanding of myself by overseeing my management skills ability through I’ve made that place me in varieties of scenarios. The assignments have not only enlightened me, but it has provided me the advantage of being well-informed of my strengths and weaknesses. Although many of the assessments have concluded the result that I’ve expected to obtain, there were three specific exercises that have shockingly raised my level of conscious about myself that I wasn’t aware of before or that I highly disagree with.
Our team comprised of four members; Emily, Cileena, Chelsea and I. We were all delegated with an individual role each term and I was designated team leader for the first term for our group. I felt at the time that this role did not suit me as I am the type of person who is more on the shy side. In addition, the course had just begun so I was relatively unsure of how the course was handled which also affected my ability to serve as the team leader to the best of my capabilities. During the first term, our team responsibility was the evaluation team. We created a well planned and carefully executed evaluation rubric to assess each group’s performance. The start of this term was when the phases of group development initiated. The first stage of any group is forming (Harris and Sherblom, 2010, p. 58). At this time, we were all still getting to know each other and were uncertain upon one another
