Calvin Coolidge, the 30th president of the United States once said, “Heroism is not only in the man, but in the occasion.” People aren't heroes everyday. They have their moments of being a hero, some of their moments are big, others are small. Heroism is having perseverance, being selfless and sometimes sacrificing the things important to you. Heroism functions in this world in very unique ways. There's simple and extreme acts of heroism. There's different types of heroes in this world-the scientist who finds cures for diseases, or the single mom who works all day to feed her children. Community's working together to help people after floods, like the time when New Orleans flooded and everyone helped them recover. They didn't have to help everyone else, but their selflessness and sacrifices helped others. For example, there's firemen who put out tremendous fires, policemen who stop robberies, or people who work for the military risking their life …show more content…

Helen Keller was a woman who had gotten a sickness as a child and because of the sickness she became deaf, not only was she deaf though she also became blind. Despite these challenges she never gave up, she learned to communicate with others, earned college degrees, and wrote over a dozen books that inspired people. Many doubted her, but she never gave up, showing enormous amounts of perseverance. Another example would be Martin Luther King Jr. He was a very passionate and positive man who fought for equality among blacks and whites. Because of his dream of equal rights, he had to face many obstacles. While most would've given up, he took that obstacle and fought against it. This makes them heroes because they were stronger than the average individual and chose to take their challenges in a good way and move
