I would refer a family friend or colleague to the American Cancer Society (ACS) website where a huge selection of support programs is offered throughout treatment and recovery (ACS, 2017c). There is an entire section dedicated to assisting with finding resources in whatever area someone is in or near and different programs from which to choose (ACS, 2017c). Visitors of the website can also filter their search based on an array of different choices ranging from, but not limited to, advocacy, assistance, information, referral, supplies, support groups, and transportation (ACS, 2017c). The website is also very easy to navigate with phone numbers and live chat options (ACS, 2017c).

Separate brochures have been created for increasing activity, alcohol use, indoor tanning and household radon. (CDC, 2017). There are also guides available online to help individual states organize effective tobacco control programs and for communities to promote cancer prevention (CDC, 2017). In addition to these helpful tools, there is an abundance of cancer prevention information on infections and the flu related to cancer, Human Papillomavirus (HPV), health disparities, and survivorship (CDC, 2017).
The Epidemiology Research Program strives at decreasing the stress of cancer by overseeing large, nationwide studies that they anticipate will increase the knowledge base of cancer related to the causation and survival as well as having an impact on cancer prevention programs (ACS, 2017a). They have a team of experts that manage everything pertaining to cancer prevention studies (ACS, 2017a). From these studies, they have published over 750 scientific articles, which have been utilized nationally as well as internationally (ACS, 2017a). They have made significant contributions to tobacco-related research, obesity, diet, activity levels, use of hormones, pollution, and other cancer related exposures (ACS, 2017a). For more than 60 years, information obtained involving the research of nearly 2.7 million men and women of the United States that were willing to be enrolled in the
Every year, 1.2 million people are diagnosed with cancer and more than 500,000 people die from the disease. According to the National Cancer Institute, over 30% of these deaths can be attributed to diet. This means that the average person can greatly lower his risk of getting cancer simply by changing his diet. There is, of course, no guarantee against cancer, but the lifestyle choices that we make now can have a huge impact on our lives in the future. (http://www.aicr.org/expert1.htm)
In women, one of the most common cancers of course is breast cancer, in men prostate cancer and in men and women, lung cancer and colon cancer are common cancers. It is important to understand that the cancer that occurs in one individual is very different from the cancer that occurs in another. Everyone is different; a lung tumor in one person will be different from a lung tumor in another person. Once a diagnosis of cancer is made, the next obvious question is what do you do? There are several things that are really relevant, for example, the stage of the cancer which is information about where is the cancer?
Cancer has one of the biggest effects on the patients mental health but also the patients loved ones and friends. It is one of the hardest things to get a grip on when the doctor tells someone that they have cancer and a fifty-fifty chance of making it. "The disease can bring many changes-in what people do and how they look, in how they feel and what they value" (Dakota 4). It makes people look at the world and their lives in a different way, valuing now what they took for granted and seeing the bigger picture in every scenario. It is something that no one can actually brace, even after the doctor tells them. Through it all though, the person must remain strong and optimistic because the cancer can affect the person's moods and in return affect the outcome of the person and the chances of their making it

The effects of a cancer diagnosis can be absolutely devastating, not only for the patient, but for family and loved ones as well. People affected by cancer have to cope with not only cancer treatments, but also with the stress, financial concerns, and the emotions that are part of living with cancer. Fortunately, nobody has to face these problems alone; The Center for Building Hope has free services that can help. “The Center for Building Hope offers free information, programs, and services to cancer patients, caregivers and family members, while connecting them with others who are going through a similar experience. These services are available through
In 2000, the U.S. released the Healthy People 2010 report that contained a health promotion and a disease prevention focus. This report would identify preventable threats
The cyclotron used the same concept that a circular particle accelerator used. The purpose of the accelerator to be shaped in a circular shape is to speed up the particles as they revolve around this path. When they revolve around this path they gain velocity and speed. The formula for velocity is displacement/ time. The amount of change that there is in the position of the particle affects the velocity of the particle. The formula of speed is distance over time. The speed transforms as the same time that the particles transform energies through the magnetic fields that they are interacting
HB1343 and SB380 will help distinguish cancer clusters around the state of Maryland, and determine potential environmental factors contributing to cancer within a specific community. Amendments found in the Third Reading of both bills mandate the inclusion of the following members within the workgroup: one member of Maryland’s Senate, one member of the House of Delegates, representatives of local medical schools, patient-advocates, scientists, environmentalists, and at least one representative of a Maryland manufacturing company. This systematic group is responsible for submitting reports of its analyses and discoveries to the Governor and GA by June 30 of 2014, at which time the Department of Health and Medical Hygiene (DHMH) will
The HINTS data was collected by a survey that provides changing patterns, needs, and information opportunities in health, identifies changing communications trends and practices and assesses cancer information access and usage. Hints collects nationally representative date routinely about the American public’s use of cancer-related information. The Hints data was created to monitor changes in the rapidly evolving field of health communication. (HINTS website, 2014). Program planners are using the data to overcome barriers to health information usage across populations. The HINTS data set sampled adults from underserved ethnic and minority populations. Altogether, 13,260 people have been sampled. HINTS began in 2003, with a nationally representative sample of 6,369 U.S. adults, including an over-sampling of key underserved ethnic and minority populations (Hints.com).
Cancer is a disease that takes many forms and affects a multitude of people in the world. The specific type of malignancy will determine the proper course of treatment to take to deal with the illness. The most prevalent type of cancer in males between the ages 15 to 34 is testicular cancer (Cavayero et al., 2015). As a result, this is also the most common cancer in young men around the world and the cause of 1-2% of all male tumors (Carey et al., 2015). In the US, we see around 9000 new testicular cancer diagnoses made per year (Agarwal et al., 2015). However, even with the malignancy’s prevalence in the world, testicular cancer is one of the great success stories in the advancement of treatments and cures. Due to the effectiveness of different treatments, testicular cancer has about a 98% 5-year survival rate and a very positive prognosis when detected early on (Cavayero et al., 2015). Some of the standard treatment options used by patients in the course of their disease are orchiectomies, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and active surveillance (Meyts et al., 2013). In addition, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection (RPLND) is another surgical option that is becoming a more common and viable option for patients (Dudderidge, 2014). However, even with the high rates of success and remission, we see many potential long-term physical and psychological effects from the disease and it’s treatments.
In this generation of American society, there is a great emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle from factors such as diet and exercise. Yet today many of the products that Americans use and consume are full of cancer causing agents. In a society where there is a vast amount of research conducted and strict regulations, many daily used products are like a time bomb ready to explode. One-third of all people will develop cancer in our lifetime and one-fourth will die from this disease. Many cancers are due to preventable revelations to industrialized carcinogens and toxins in the food people eat, and household products and cosmetics people use daily.
There is a recognized relationship between a group of risk factors and various cancers. Men and women with risk factors such as hypertension, high blood sugar, or high cholesterol would benefit from having regular cancer screenings. More people have metabolic syndrome now than, in years past, which coincides with the increase in deaths caused by cancer each year. Healthy diet plans help lower the chances of getting diagnosed with cancer. Unhealthy lifestyle choices are having a greater impact on adults more than ever
Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide, with approximately 14 million new cases in 2012.2 The amount of new cases is expected to rise by about 70% over the next 2 decades. Cancer which causes nearly 1 in 6 deaths, is the second leading cause of death globally, and was responsible for 8.8 million deaths in 2015. Approximately 70% of deaths from cancer occur in low- and middle-income countries. In 2012 about 14.1 million new cases of cancer occurred globally (not including skin cancer other than melanoma).3 The most common types of cancer in males are lung cancer, prostate cancer, colorectal cancer and stomach cancer.
