1. What did you identify as your “1 year goal”? CC1.4 I encourage and support staff in using community resources to enhance the curriculum.
2. What is most important/interesting/useful/relevant about the Area of Practice: Family & Community Partnership?
Probably one of the most important issues when it comes to Family/Community Partnership is trying to get the families/community involved in what we are doing. By engaging parents, it will help us to see what we are lacking and what we need to do in order to have our families fully engaged. I feel that if our families/communities are not engaged in our program then we need to reevaluate in order to encourage their participation. By reevaluating our program we can further access what we need to work on. If parents/communities feel that they are not valued as part of our team, they won’t engage in our program. Both the parents and the community play a big role in the education of our children. Parents are their first teachers and the communities have valuable resources for the children.

272) By allowing our parents/community members to have a voice in our program, we can actually see how much we are engaging them in our program. By listening to the parents, the community members, and assessing our program we can see what we are lacking in when it comes to their involvement. As I spoke in the previous paragraph about the parents being their child’s first teacher, our community also plays a big role in the education of our children. When children have the support of their community, it shows them that their community cares about them so the children will in turn want to care about and support their
The organization chosen is ABE Defense Systems. ABE Defense Systems is a global organization and a premiere defense contractor,
(Bredekamp, 2009). I will show the parent that we can be in harmony in the program and with the family’s values. I need to take away the feeling that I am right and they are wrong and I need to see that neither one of us are right or wrong. I need to see that we are learning and trying to help their child to grow, learn and develop. (Bredekamp, 2009). The role of our local community is to provide a physical, emotional, and cognitive environment that helps in the development and learning of the child. We with community will build a foundation that is consistent, positive, and caring relationships with adults and children. (Bredekamp, 2009). We will build that relationship with teachers and children and families and teachers. We as community it is our responsibility to contribute to the well-being and learning of the child. I will get the child involved in the community and their families because it helps them to learn about themselves and the world around them. The community involved in my school helps children respect and be able to acknowledge their differences. I as a teacher will develop responsibility and help with self-regulation with the
We believe parents and educators need to be more proactive and get involved with children’s education. Our concept is to encourage the parents as well as the schools to seek outreach programs such as ours to further invest in our children's education and future. As well as help fund schools….
Leaders are not guaranteed to develop to such a high performance teams, nor are members who want to be in the teams. The developments of good teams need the combination of efforts of leaders’ visionary and motivational team members. To be an effective team, leaders have to set up an environment in which team members can indicate at the time of and resolve relationships with other members.
Multiculturalism in today's society has become more prominent and something that needs to be addressed based on specific as well as on an individual level based on many different aspects. There are lots of different actions that can be taken, classes, seminars, books, internet webinars and such. However; I believe that none of this is effective without the interaction and hands on approach from the parents, famiies, teachers and the school administration itself. We can all sit back and quarterback a situation, but until it is in our own lap, we don't know how or what we would do to assure that the children that this effects is provided with the equal educational opportunities that they deserve. I believe that first
Collaborating with families doesn’t have to be in the form of events requiring the presence of the family at the school or school-related activity. Collaboration can take on many forms such as: communication (emails, daily notebooks, phone calls, etc.), volunteering, providing opportunities for parents to continue learning
It is necessary for families to be closely involved in order for the students to achieve the highest level of education. Education should not only occur in school but also at home. Practice makes perfect. When parents and families get involved in education, their children do better in school and grow up to be more successful in life. I will make it a priority to involve families in fund raisers, bake sales, and bring a parent to school day and other appropriate school functions. As a teacher I will take it upon myself to keep in contact with every parent and encourage further
According to Meredith Maran, parental involvement is one of the key elements in students’ success. Parental help and involvement can improve children’s chances of having better futures. I totally agree with the author. Our parents are so important on our ways to success. Both schools and students need parental involvement to ensure better futures. It is obvious that involvement from parents can increase students’ chances of success. In addition, the wise ways to devote time and money are
Having the parents to get involved in their child’s day to day school activity is important. It lets the parent know what their child has learned, needs to work on, and how far they have progressed. When doing a home-school partnership, the teacher and parents’ needs to have a mutual respect for each other and the most important key to a child’s success is communication. When the parents and teachers work together, everyone benefits. If a teacher and parent provide each other with insight about the child, they both will have a better understanding on how to provide the help a child needs. The partnership builds a positive relationship between the teachers, parents, and children.
Our educational institution at Whitehorse High School includes several stakeholder groups. The two stakeholder groups that I would like to wright about are the parents and the teachers. The parents make up the Student Community Counsel (SCC) that helps the principal and faculty make important decisions about school improvement directives, and the overall welfare of their students. Parents in our community want to see their students succeed. They want to see the school improve and their students’ scores to go up on the benchmarks and end of year assessments. The parents also have a huge interest is seeing the school grade improve from an “F” to an “A”. Parents want to see their students get recognized for the successes that they achieve. They want to see their students succeed in academics, athletics, and other interests that their students are pursuing. They have a huge investment in seeing their students have an enjoyable social life.
The goal and objectives included in my school improvement plan deals with parental involvement. I like the way Joyce Epstein breaks down the different types of involvement. Each type of involvement includes sample practices, challenges that may occur, redefinitions of words, and results for the students, parents, and teachers. As a teacher, and one day a district leader, I believe that getting parents involved will increase student achievement; however, each individual school and the district, we have to provide ways for the families to become involved. The first
Epstein’s (2001) Home, School and Community topology. Epstein’s (2001) Home, School and Community topology also forms the backdrop of this study. Epstein’s topology consists of six types of family involvement practices for building a comprehensive home-school partnership: 1) Parenting: assisting families with parenting skills; 2) Communications: communicating with families about school programs and student progress; 3) Volunteering: improving recruitment, training, activities and schedules to involve families as volunteers; 4) Learning at Home: Involving families with their children in academic learning activities at home; 5) Decision Making: including families in school decisions, governance and advocacy activities; 6) Collaborating with the Community: coordinating the work and resources of community business, agencies, culture and civic organizations.
Now perhaps more than ever, schools need to develop strong community relationships. With mounting pressure coming from all directions, schools can no longer afford to remain in the past. 21st Century schools need allies in the parent community. According to Dr. Joyce Epstein, director of the Center On School, Family and Community Partnership based at Johns Hopkins University, principals need to approach parent and community involvement the same way they do curriculum, professional development, and other areas critical to school life. “There needs to be a systemization and planning and thinking for family and community involvement… The old way of thinking was that parental involvement was all about parents. The new way is that it’s
Discuss things your school does to encourage parents to be partners, and to help parents feel welcome at school. Describe specific events or efforts that have been particularly successful, and things that have been less successful. What contributes to successful collaboration between parents and the school?
