In his first large protest, Cesar went on a long march. When reflecting upon the march Chavez remarked that, “We marched alone at the beginning, but today, we count men of all creeds, nationalities, and occupations in number.” (Chavez, 2) From the very beginning, Chavez brought groups of people together by uniting his small group of protesters with a group of Filipino strikers to create the United Farm Workers. Uniting his group of protesters with the group of striking Filipino workers allowed the protest to become bigger, and therefore more successful. The large numbers also attracted more attention from the media. By uniting groups of strikers, Chavez created a strong protest organization that lasts even today. Another essential group of people Chavez got to join his cause were the consumers. Chavez and his partner Dolores Huerta once wrote, “We called upon our fellow men, and were answered by consumers.” (Chavez, Huerta, 1) Consumers helped the protest by participating in a grape boycott, and did not buy grapes until the grape workers’ needs were met. With this boycott, Chavez tried to weaken the business of the grape growers until they complied, and it worked. When thousands of citizens would not by grapes, the media covered the issue. Through the media coverage, the boycott spread rapidly, uniting people from all over the United States. In the story "Woman Hollering Creek" Sandra Cisneros discusses the issues of living life as a married woman through a character named Cleofilas; a character who is married to a man who abuses her physically and mentally .Cisneros reveals the way the culture puts a difference between a male and a female, men above women. Cisneros has been famous about writing stories about the latino culture and how women are treated; she explain what they go through as a child, teen and when they are married; always dominated by men because of how the culture has been adapted. "Woman Hollering Creek" is one of the best examples. A character who grows up without a mother and who has no one to guid and give her advise about life.

The family led a nomadic life; moving very often in search of migrant work. Chavez joined his parents to help harvest carrots, cotton, and grapes under the blazing California sun. How can an individual be persuaded to change his entire view of a group he detests? In

The story describes the experiences of a young women named Cleofilas. She grew up with six brothers and had no mother. So therefore, she learned how to be a woman through watching telenovelas. She believes that to be a woman she only needs to find true love and have a “happily ever after”. Later she meets a man named Juan and they eventually fall in love and get married.

Throughout time there have been many people who have wanted to enact change or make a difference. Cesar Chavez helped migrant farmers with their unsafe work conditions and their lack workers’ rights. Mother Jones marched for children’s rights and to create child labor laws. Van Jones is fighting for human rights currently. These people all did amazing things and all fought for a singular purpose.Cesar Chavez, Mother Jones, and Van Jones all helped fight to enact change, by making people notice their cause and by having the perseverance to keep fighting for others to have better lives.

My partner and I were struggling to choose a topic,my partner Sondra Satele first picked was Cesar Chavez but i felt like it was too simple we search for someone who was not as common we found to like Oskar Schindler but we didn’t feel like we would find enough resources on him. The company was aware of what Chavez was doing, but they didn’t pay that much attention until they started to lose money. The boss of the company was started to get concerned and started sending his people to stop the strikes. The strikes of Chavez were nonviolence so he didn’t care if the police or somebody came to stop it because it’s against the law. However, the boss sends his people over to Chavez and told him that if they don’t stop the strike they will open fire to all the people. The people of Chavez were getting scared, but Chavez was motivating them by saying “si so Puede” until the police shot fire and took Chavez to jail. Cesar kept fighting until he got out of jail and proceed his work he had left. Cesar was losing hope because people were not following him because if they do they will get shot. Cesar stopped eating for a week to see if the people were still caring to change the way they were getting threaten and the people got the message and started doing strikes again without fear. The company was in rage, but they couldn’t do anything and the people were getting hopped. People from other countries were joining them too. People were with Chavez and when the company had no choice but to surrender. Chavez at the end stood up and started to eat again and he does justice for his people and for all the people around the world saying the famous phrase, “Si se Puede”.

Even when it looked tough from when people fought the United Farm Workers, “Chavez remained personally committed to nonviolence despite...outbreaks of violence during UFW strikes" (Ribera 390). This showed true determination from César even during the dark times because he kept pushing forward. A famous activist quote made by him about putting himself in front of others was when he “declared that the ‘truest act of courage ... is to sacrifice ourselves for others in a totally nonviolent struggle for justice.’” (Ribera 389). This quote helped make Chávez’s true goal known, a non-violent way to achieve fairness for others by putting oneself before another with determination. In order to have their voice heard to the public, the United Farm Workers, with César, launched a “national TV special, ‘The Harvest of Shame’” ("César E. Chávez Middle Level Biography"). The purpose of the special was to have the cruelty of the unfairness the farmers dealt with as it “showed America the miserable working conditions that the migrant workers had to endure" ("César E. Chávez Middle Level Biography"). During the 1960’s, many movements rose such as the counterculture movement, the hippie movement, the environmental movement, the SCLC, the SNCC, the Native American movement, Women’s civil rights, United Farm workers, etc. During the 1960’s the American culture would start to change because of these movements. The United Farm Workers movement for example fought for the rights of Mexican americans. Their goal during the 1960’s was to get decent working conditions and more job opportunities. The article “Cesar Chavez Saved My Life,” written by Daniel “Nane” Alejandrez reflects on Mr. Alejandraz’s past, covering some very unfortunate events, but with a purpose of pulling emotion from the reader. While reading some parts of the article, I had to reread it over a few times to comprehend the point that the author was trying to make. The most important thing about knowing his past is that it is significantly different, and much more positive in the future because of one person, Cesar Chavez.

Cesar Chavez was an American civil rights activists. He was born on March 31, 1927, in Yuma, Arizona. Cesar Chavez was the son of Juana Estrada and Librado Chavez. He was named after his grandfather.He lived in a Mexican-American family which had six children. Cesar Chavez lived in the same small house that he was born in. Chavez lost his land during the Great Depression. It was taken away because Chavez’s father made an agreement that was soon broken. His father tried to buy the house but he couldn’t because he wasn’t able to pay the loan. Their house was soon sold to the original owner. Cesar Chavez and his family then had to move to California to become migrant farm workers. The Chavez family had to work really hard. They did not live in the same place for so long. They would pick peas and lettuce in the winter. In the spring, they had to picks cherries and beans. For Summer, they picked corn and grapes. Lastly, for Fall, they would pick cotton. Chavez went to 30 different schools in California because his family kept moving from place to place to find work. In 1942, Chavez dropped out of seventh grade. It would have been his last year but he didn’t want his mother to work in the fields. Chavez soon became full-time migrant farm worker. At the time, farm workers weren’t paid enough and lived horrible conditions. Chavez and his older sister Rita helped farm workers and neighbors when they were sick. Cesar Chavez was born March 31, 1927, near Yuma, Arizona. He was the son of Librado Chávez and Juana Estrada Chavez. He grew up in Arizona with four siblings; Richard Chavez, Librado Chavez, Rita Chavez Medina, and Vicki Chavez Lastra. His home was a small adobe house on some 40 acres of land. This house was taken by Anglos. Cesar's father offered to clear 80 acres of land to earn the house back. This agreement was broken and the house was sold to another man named Justus Jackson. The Chavez's would get the house back, but not for long.

Messages can be translated in a number of different ways. Some might even define it as the conveyance of a clear cut message. But messages are not this truthful. Intelligence or correspondence if you will has the capability of taking on a meaning. But these lines have no meaning because of their existence. The zest from these texts come from everyday people trying to comprehend them. Cesar Chavez once said in a speech he gave for the Cesar Chavez foundation. "Our language is the reflection of ourselves. A language is an exact reflection of the character and growth of its speakers."
