The show Friends can be recognized and referenced across the country amongst almost every age group. The show features a group of six friends who face the struggles of dating, friendship, and life as young adults. One of the most relatable aspects of the show is the dynamic of the friend group. It seems that everyone can relate to having a friend similar to those on the show. Amongst these six friends, the “jokester” is Chandler Bing, played by actor Matthew Perry. Chandler was born in 1968, making him 26 in the pilot episode and 36 in the show’s finale. He is the son of erotic novelist Nora Tyler Bing and cross-dressing burlesque star Charles “Helena Handbasket” Bing. Some of Chandler’s most defining character traits include; sarcastic, commitment-fearing, …show more content…
Chandler’s personality may be fun, but his psychological issues hold him back from being his best self. Chandler shows a fear of commitment, social insecurities around his sexuality, and other issues revolving around his turbulent childhood. To best explain Chandler’s behavior and personality development, his character can be analyzed through the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator, Carl Jung’s theory on femininity and masculinity, George Kelly’s Personal Conduct Theory, and Freud’s Id theory.
Chandler Bing’s quick-wit and tendency to play devil’s advocate helps to define him as an ENTP according to the Myers Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is based on a self-report questionnaire which, for obvious reasons, Chandler Bing cannot take himself. I have taken into consideration Chandler’s personality characteristics and character progressions in order to make the best guess at his personality type. He is extroverted, intuitive, thinking, and perceiving. The evidence of Chandler’s extroversion can be found in his ability to come up with jokes and sarcastic comments quickly. This outward thinking that he demonstrates is a tell-tale sign of an extrovert. Also, the fact that he has lived with roommates for the majority of his adult life
Which is exactly what Chris was in search of when he began his journey across the country. Based on evidence from “Into the Wild,” Chris had the INFP temperament type. Opponents of this position argue that Chris McCandless is an extrovert rather than an introvert. According to the MBTI Basics, an extroverted person is one who likes to spend time in the outer world of people and things.
I’m not talking about the friends you gossip with at the lunch table. I found Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, Rachel, and Phoebe. When I met these six characters through my television screen, I discovered something other than my favorite show. I discovered myself...reflected back through each of them.
Personality is a complex area of Psychology, which has been studied for many years, by many experts in the field. Each having their own ideas about how to understand, study and evaluate it. Here I will introduce personality briefly, looking at the theories behind it. Then explain the need for testing. As there are many test that are available to use, for the purpose of this essay I will look at The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and discuss the reliability and validity of some studies around these tests.
This character personality analysis analyzes the character of Stephanie Tanner from the prominent television shows “Full House” and “Fuller House” with Erik Erikson’s eight stages theory, which consists of eight stages that a person goes through from infancy to adulthood that positively or negatively effect personality development. This analysis specifically uses stages four, five, and six to apply to Stephanie Tanner, as stages before or after are not able to be completed with present knowledge about the character. The paper begins with an explanation of the eight stages theory, and then goes on to apply the stages to Stephanie Tanner.
The image of rape of a white women is not the same as interracial sex, but if you are Ethan from The Searchers then the rape of a white women would not be the same thing as interracial sex, according to The Searchers, “ Ethan’s racism and fear of miscegenation manifest themselves so often that a couple of examples of him at his vindictive should suffice: firstly, when he shoots the eye out of the dead Indian, eternally demining him to “ wander forever between the wind’s. Secondly when he shoots at an enormous herd of buffalo, figuring that “killing” buffalo’s as good as killing Injuns in the country” (Nugent 70). This shows the hatred that Ethan has and that for him Indians are not humans but animals he enjoys killing and if a woman would sleep
Personality types which can be seen in contemporary society can also be seen very clearly with regard to the characters in the ward setting:
Friends is a hit television (tv) show, and has been since 1994 when it first came out. The television show follows the lives of six friends throughout the course of 10 years. Friends is a good tv show despite some people’s opinions. The show was at the top of the charts for the years that it ran, and even more after that. The theme song itself was number 1 for 8 weeks, and after that was still within the top numbers (Billboard Staff, 2015). Even though the show is aimed for a mature audience, it captures the qualities a hit tv show needs. Friends is a good tv show due to the fact that it is a comedy, includes lots of plot twists, and follows one basic storyline.

His character tends to be a by-the-book type that people listen to and from whom his teammates ask for guidance in times of need and grievance. His character is seen as a friend, mentor, and Alpha figure to almost everyone on the team. His personality changes very little over the course of the show; he has always been extremely serious, determined, and focused on his leadership of the team. Outside the office, specially while interacting with his loved ones, his seriousness becomes less intense and more carefree, code-humored side of his personality, and then his emotional expression changes and he is known for his surprises.

The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) enables an individual to gain a deeper insight into their inherent personality traits. For some people, they have had prior knowledge or underlying assumptions about their personality, but this test provides clearer information about each of their identifiable traits. According to the MBTI in Human-metric personality test, my scores were 22% (E) extroverted thinking more than introverted, 9% (N) intuitive as oppose to sensing, 16% (T) thinking more than feeling, and 12% (J) judging as compared to perceiving. Thus, my personality type is ENFJ. The ENFJ personality group is described as a minority group that consists of natural-born leaders, and people filled with passion, and charisma for example, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey; they are notable members of this group, also known as the protagonists (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists apprehend pride in providing guidance for others to improve individually and to improve the community at large (16personalities, 2016). The protagonists find it naturally easy to communicate with others and excel at communicating with other people in person (16personalities, 2016).
In describing what personalities are like, Kelly abandons the classical threefold division of psychological phenomena: cognition, affection and conation (Kelly, 1955, p.130). Instead, he formulates his own personality theory with a single structure named "Construct". In this section, let's review the concept of construct and some of its features.
