Cheerleading Budget

When you get to the issue of budgets there is really two parts to them. The general budget which is what the school district per say pays towards coaches salaries, transportation, and event workers. Coaches salaries are normally $120,000, transportation would be $50,000, and event workers can be around $5,000 - $10,000. Then the other part of the budget is the sports income, which is money from booster clubs, participation from other schools, and admissions, and it comes to roughly $120,000. When entering college many students have fantasies of joining Greek organizations and other groups that are meant to encourage unity among people that share a common interest. One being that in the world of colligate cheerleading, holds a “mock” sorority, named Cheer Phi. Cheer Phi makes naïve cheerleaders believe it represents the true essence of sisterhood, team work and leadership every quality a great cheerleading squad holds. However, in reality despite a spectator’s point of view so far my opinion opposes those values indefinitely.

Cheerleading is a sport that many people don’t support in a way that they support the popular sports in most schools, like football and basketball. He came up with a very different response. “No, but they should be able to get what, say, a Presidential Scholar gets,” he said in an e-mail. “This should be an educational experience.” Presidential Scholars receive full in-state tuition, room and board, book allowances and miscellaneous expenses — a total that OSU media relations estimates to be $12,483 per year for in-state students. That is nearly $2,000 more than an in-state athlete receives, even if they are awarded a full scholarship. Most of that $2,000 falls under the category of miscellaneous expenses, something athletes do not receive money for. Beside all the money that the NCAA gives to different studies they also award scholarships and grants. “The NCAA awards more than $10 million in scholarships and grants annually to student-athletes and member institution, in addition to the $2.4 billion allocated to schools to fund athletics scholarships” ( NCAA.org). They are also providing $15 million in grant money over the next three years to fund a joint initiative with the U.S. Department of Defense. When picturing a sports team most people may believe there must be a type of offensive or defensive physical contact; this is not at all true. A team is a group of people working towards a common goal. A football team may work together to defend its goal post. A swim team may work together to achieve the overall best time. A cheerleader is but one member of a group of people; altogether these people work together to encourage a team of players or a crowd of people. This is the purpose of the high school, college or professional cheerleader. Cheerleaders work together to create new and exciting cheers, and dances. There is a head cheerleader in every squad which helps to direct the team; this person can easily be compared to the coach of any other sports team. In order to be successful in cheerleading you have to have a strong body and mindset, because cheerleading takes physical and mental strength. Cheerleading is a yearlong sport so if an athlete survives for that long then that means the athlete is dedicated to his/her team. When the athletes finish the entire season they are acknowledged at a banquet. At the banquet the team talks about things in the past and they look back at everything that happened earlier in the season.
