Recently, the environment issues are becoming more and more serious. The increasing of greenhouse gas emission and pollutions lead to many environment problems related to climate change. The climate change impact our urban life in many aspects. As the biggest metropolitan area in US, New York-Newark-Jersey City, NY-NJ-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population about 19,831,858 by year 2012 (U.S. Department of Commerce, US Census Bureau, 2012) The population has been increased by 1.35% since 2010. The increase of population again increase the consuming of resources and increase the carbon dioxide of the statistical area which aggravate the global warming. At this moment, planners and government should take the impacts from climate change that will be critical concern to our area into consideration and applying a climate change management planning policies.
The Climate Changes and the environment problems
Climate change is a issue that widely talked today. As the National Weather Service reports, the hottest temperature records are extending all over the United States since year 2010 (Schlesinger, William H, 2014). It is obvious that our world is heating. Global warming become more and more seriously. With the increase of temperature, many environment problems occur to have huge impact on our urban life, including: the sea level rise, air pollution and drought. These environment problems also endanger our area in a large part.

The earth’s climate has been changing and will continue to do so in the future. It is only going to keep on getting worse and it is getting to the point where humans will most likely end up in a situation of life threatening diseases and even death. Contagious diseases are spreading menacingly due to weather extremes as heat wave, droughts, cyclones, floods, and tornados (Dhaka). That is just the start of the effect of climate change and its consequences. Many scientists have already warned that millions of people would die in this century because of climate change unless the major reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is made (Dhaka). However, there are more than just reducing greenhouse gas emissions to help solve for climate change.
Climate Change- Climate is a long term change in the Earth's weather, especially due to an increase in the average atmospheric temperature. According to research, it was discovered that the Earth's temperature rose by 0.6 degrees Celsius (C) and predicted that the sea surface temperature may rise by up to 1 degrees C over the next 50 years. Unfortunately, carbon dioxide and methane gas levels are the highest they have ever been for the last 420000 years. These two gases with water vapour, nitrous oxide and halocarbons create the five predominate greenhouse gases, effecting the environment greatly. Furthermore, it is evident that an average person release 4 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. Due to this fact, carbon dioxide
Climate change is evident throughout the world and is a major issue. It is no secret that our planet is getting warmer. Global warming is now recognized in the scientific community as a real problem. There are multiple aspects that are causing this issue. Majority of the warming is caused by greenhouse gases. Volcanic eruptions and changes in the intensity of solar radiation have offset the warming partially. It is estimated that average annual temperatures will increase 3.5°F-9.5°F by the century’s end.
New York City will be my home for the next two years whilst I attend The City College. I believe that climate change will put coastal areas at risk. With the sea levels rising due to the melting of the ice sheets, extreme storm surges due to changes in weather patterns, and flooding they’ll threaten coastal infrastructure (buildings, transport, energy and water supply).
The release of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) due to human activity is increasing global average surface air temperatures, disrupting weather patterns, and acidifying the ocean (1). Left unchecked, the continued growth of GHG emissions could cause global average temperatures to increase by another 4°C or more by 2100 and by 1.5 to 2 times as much in many midcontinent and far northern locations (1). Although our understanding of the impacts of climate change is increasingly and disturbingly clear, there is still debate about the proper course for U.S. policy—a debate that is very much on display during the current presidential transition. But putting near-term politics aside, the mounting economic and scientific
Climate change is a significant problem all around world for all species alike but one state that faces great possible endangerment of it is the state of New York. 1 Climate change by definition is the "a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels" There can be many causes and outcomes of climate change due to its ongoing increase in highly extreme temperatures. 2 Some causes of climate change are natural. These include changes in Earth 's orbit and in the amount of energy coming from the sun. Ocean changes and volcanic eruptions are also natural causes of climate change. According to nasa.gov "Most scientists say it 's very likely that most of the warming since the mid-1900s is due to the burning of coal, oil and gas. Burning these fuels is how we produce most of the energy that we use every day. This burning adds heat-trapping gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the air." The gases are being created causing harm to local states like New York and other states and countries alike are called greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases can cause great effects and conflicts of interest within the environment and ecosystem. Due to the increase in greenhouse gasses and carbon dioxide in atmosphere, the result has caused global temperatures to increase more than 1 degree Fahrenheit causing global
Climate change is a rising issue of importance in our day and age, and one that is threatening our global society on many levels. It has become a wicked problem throughout the years. A wicked problem does not have a definitive definition due to large uncertainties. Atmospheric and oceanic concentrations of climate change have been consistently rising over time, and threaten to have immense human wellbeing, scientific and economic impacts in the future if the globe neglects to achieve reasonable emission levels. There is no one solution for a wicked problem.
Climate change is one of the most talked-about topics since the past two decades. The planet and its habitants are suffering from this change and, at first sight, people think that they are the only affected by climate change, but this thought is incorrect. In fact, the fauna and flora, and of course the weather are also affected. To combat these problems, many scientists are trying to analyze the behavior of the animals and of the plants to see their reactions to its changes, 195 countries try to find solutions to slow down this phenomenon at the Conference of the Parties every year, awareness campaigns are launched so that citizens can contribute to this slowdown and many more. Many disasters are caused by global warming and this is likely
There are pollutants that effect our environment from many different sources from industry to everyday people in New Jersey these toxins show up in three ways air, water, and ground. New Jersey residents share in protecting our air, the toxins in our air over time can have an adverse effect on our overall health. The most immediate impact from pollution comes by way of our water supply the cornerstone of life itself New Jersey has made great strides to our water since the 1970’s when we started to understand the grave mistakes made by our lack of oversight when it came to our water. Not to be ignored is ground pollution which many industries have ignored by simply burying the problem it interns goes away not considering the life cycle that surrounds us every day. Pollution in New Jersey has been our calling card since I was a kid toxic fumes from our ports let you know you have entered an
Climate Change Case Study Assignment Climate change effects the world, especially in the United States of America. Due to climate change the United States of America is one of the most affected places in the world. Climate change has changed the lives of millions of Americans and is continuing to do so. Climate change has impacted a variety of different environmental events in the US including the weather and natural disasters. The number of wildfires in the US have increased, especially near Western US. With global warming creating warmer springs and summers result in hot and dry forests, the perfect conditions for wildfires. One of the most famous wildfires in US history was the Western Wildfires, which destroyed over 9.2 million acres of land and caused a major disturbance to the environment, the ecosystem and millions of American citizens.
Climate change means the fluctuation changes of the climate in a period of time, this period of time could means several decades or centenaries, the fluctuation could be regional or global. At present, what we talked most is the effect of the environment policy on the climate, in another words is the effect of human factor on the climate, especially the questions about the global warming, and climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world, it’s extremely urgent, people wonder that if the power of an individual can slow down the global warming, if we join with scientists, business enterprise and the government, start from small details, we can do a big contribution for the reduce of greenhouse gas emission.
The increasing amount of green house gases (GHG) released in the atmosphere is causing significant changes in the environment leading to unpredictable weather patterns and warming of the climate system is putting a great pressure on city development and infrastructures. This essay outlines three problems caused by climate change in urban areas, and evaluates the effectiveness of some of the mitigation and adaptation strategies. This essay reasons that mitigation and adaptation strategies need to work in synergy in order to address the situation effectively.
Our lives are connected to the climate. When a region of the world is in the hot season, you sometimes see record high temperatures. When cold season approaches, you might also see record lows. One might also see more flooding, earthquakes, temperature swings, droughts, snowfall, and changing weather behavior in general. So, climate change is an apparent reality we are now experiencing. May not seem much right now, but once you look at it in the long term it’s a complete eye opener. It’s amazing how much every little detail we do towards the environment affects us. A large increasing awareness of the implications of global climate change, shifts are becoming necessary and apparent in the assumptions, concepts, goals and methods of urban environmental planning. First we have to know the differences between global warming and climate change. Global warming refers to the recent and ongoing rise in global average temperature near Earth's surface. It is caused mostly by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Global warming is causing climate patterns to change. However, global warming itself represents only one aspect of climate change. Climate change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time. In other words, climate change includes major changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, that occur over several decades or longer. Human societies have adapted to the
The Impacts of Climate Change on Society: Global climate change has the ability to adversely impact and disrupt many sectors of society —including, people’s health, agriculture and food supply, water supply, ecosystems, and more. Extreme weather events, such as decreased rainfall, lead to prolonged and more intense wildfire seasons which result in decreased air quality for those in proximity. Droughts increase the stress placed on ground water supplies which is resulting a reduction of water quality due to increased contamination following intense period of rainfall (“Impacts”). Rising temperatures and increased greenhouse gas emissions have led to increased air pollution (i.e. aerosols and black carbon) which is detrimental to individual’s with respiratory problems. Additionally, dry conditions have resulted in an increase in the intensity and duration of allergy seasons in addition to an increase in the spread of insect borne diseases (“Global Warming”). Furthermore, sea level rise and more intense storms puts coastal communities at risk of catastrophic storm surges and flood damage (“Impacts”). Ecosystems that act as natural buffers to combat the impacts of severe weather related events (such as floods and fires) are being devastated. For example, increasing acidification of the oceans in addition to overfishing have disrupted marine-based food production and harmed fishing industries (“Impacts”). The United States energy infrastructure, primarily relating to electricity,
Most scientists and climate experts believe that global warming and pollution are one of the most important issues and one of the most important issues to be discussed between countries and environmental change and all types of pollution, the temperature has increased significantly in the Earth. Firstly, the main reason in this assignment is to discuss the global warming and pollution issues and its solutions are critically argue those issues. Secondly, the impacts of global warming and pollution on the Earth, as well as the lifestyle, will be discussed. Thirdly, several solutions of those issues will be suggested to solve those problems. Finally, these solutions will be evaluated, to clarify how these current solutions can effectively reduce the global warming in terms of long-term planning.
