Community College Internship Report

I'm attending El Paso Community College to start off my education. My ambition is to be the first one in my family to be a college graduate. Gain a level of independence, there is still much for me to learn not only in school but in the real world as well. Community College will allow me to complete a degree in a giving environment well also beneficially not costing too much. Thanks to Advanced Placement and Dual credit courses, I have completed some of the requirements needed for my degree. Therefore, I wish to transfer to a bigger university so that I may have an opportunity in my majoring field. I'm not a native El Pasoen however it has become another place I call home. Although I wish to experience more of a diversity in other cities.

Deciding whether to attend a community college or university can be a difficult decision for students especially high school seniors and fresh high school graduates. After graduating from high school, the next step in the academic journey is to attend a college or a university. Before I got into college, I wanted to attend a university. I never considered attending a community college because I considered it irrelevant and less rewarding than a university. Now I have a different view about community colleges and I can clearly point out the major difference between a community college and a university. A community college is a two year college which offers two or three year courses and award associate degrees and certificates. Most community colleges are linked with certain universities which makes it easier for students to transfer. My decision to attend a community was strongly influenced by Cost, easy transition to university, and the need to balance school, work, and social life.

Approaching the end of senior year everyone was receiving acceptance letters to all well credited schools, like Rutgers, The College of New Jersey, Fordham, and many others, but there were some people, like me, who were opening letter from community colleges to attend. I quickly realized that I did not take high school seriously and was lackadaisical with my studies, causing my grades to suffer, ultimately leaving me no choice, but to go to community college. In hindsight, going to community college was not a regretful decision, and it has shaped me into the person I am now. Going to community college was not part of the original game plan when deciding where to apply junior year of high school. As a natural born resident of the City of Long Branch, I personally have gone to admire and appreciate the level of professionalism in our police officers in which govern our community. I have ultimately come to understand this high standard of professionalism and leadership has been properly groomed over generations. Thus, in my closing year at Saint Peter’s University in a concentration of criminal justice, I have taken significant interest in applying directly to Long Branch Police Department.

After a hectic first semester at the community college, I began to find myself. I realized that the four-year university I wanted to attend initially, would have not been a good fit for me. Being part of different student organizations and creating connections with my professors at the community college is what helped me find what I was really looking for. I wanted a place where I felt like I mattered and not a school with fifty thousand students where I would just feel like a number. The additional semester I got to stay home, I was able to do more research and find a university where I would fit in and connect with.
