Whenever people play on their phones, work on their computers, or are just chilling out and playing games on the gaming consoles they own they don’t ever really think about what’s behind the program, app, or game they are playing. The thought of what makes them up is never really a big deal and the thought of how much work went into all those tiny details never crosses their minds. It all just comes together in this one big program that nobody really gives a second thought about. Whenever I say that word, programming, someone may think just simply building websites or even making computer games, while these are correct, there is a completely different side to it that isn’t really as fun. This different side includes learning different …show more content…
Now computers can’t just use English they have to tell the computer in one of its many different languages that can be changed into binary code, what you want it to do. “These languages range from high level and obscure to low level and popular” (“Defining High, Mid, and Low Level Languages”). Number wise there are very many, if you are just counting main languages there are at a minimum hundreds and if counting all of them including the obscure languages then over a thousand. Some of the more common ones some of you might have heard of them, mentioned previously Java which most every internet user has heard. Then there is C which “Programming in C is efficient and gives the programmer a great deal of control” (“How C Programming Works”). Java is actually built off of the language C. This language isn’t used very often but it has very many plus sides of learning it, this language can be used on different platforms; laptops, desktops, and smart phone. This language will also help with the understanding with many higher level languages. The last of the more common ones I am going to list is C++, which sounds an awful like C but it has a lot of improvements that C doesn’t necessarily have. It maintains the same simplicity as C but it also has features that make it easier to write for higher leveled programs. It can also make small
In today’s society video games have a large influence on people. We also might be driven to the point of where we are dependent on them. In fact, being so engulfed in video games could help children become more focused. In fact, parents would probably disagree and say that video games wouldn’t be essential to learning because it would probably be considered a waste of time for children and time-consuming. Parents would also disagree with the content of what is in the game, but there is a great possibility that video games could actually make us smarter. Steven Johnson explains that the games we are used to playing can improve our visual intelligence and that it would be good to learn new strategies through gaming. Video games should be an
They’re learning to learn.” (Gee, 399) Gee might be correct that there is potential to learn through video gaming, however, it is more the content of these games that should be held up to scrutiny. Specifically, the depth of violence and unrealistic virtual worlds involved in many of these games should indeed hold cause for concern. There are no long term studies to draw from telling us that video gaming is either a good or bad thing. But we do have common sense to draw from and we should consider what is known to date from both ends of the spectrum. The popular television show Dr. Phil recently aired an episode when a young man was so addicted to video gaming that it overtook his life. He no longer ate, showered or brushed his teeth and only slept when it physically overtook him. He mentally transformed himself into the video game, ignoring everything else. While this may be only one case, it should not be ignored. When considering the theories both Carr and Gee present, both essays are alarming and brings one not only to the conclusion that education is definitely in crisis in this country, but if were intending on video games to fill some kind of educational void, we are likely a country in
Before one week had passed from the point I looked up the tutorials I could already solve the cube in less than two minutes. My interests in computers never failed to cease either. There were a few uncommon trades that I picked up along the way, such as juggling and various watersports, nevertheless the divine power of the 3 pound piece of glass, plastic and pure human innovation allured my attention as an oasis to a parched traveler in some golden mountain range of earth far away from the purgatory surrounding me. To me, a computer was not an instrument of entertainment, but rather a tool of innovation. Introversion was an understatement in comparison to my desire for social interaction, yet as far as I could remember, awkward instances originating from social situations, in the rare event of occurrence, did not happen often. The amount of time that was invested in my computer often surpassed the amount of time I slept that particular day. There is a certain point in which one is to good at something. I started learning programming languages, assembly code, and advanced cryptography. Maybe I am an evil person. Possibly any child in similar circumstances would have acted
I have always had fun playing video games ever since I was six years old, however I wanted to try my skill in making a small videogame for my senior project. Now this is no easy task that can be completed, to make a game I would have to learn how to program a computer, make the art for the game, and research the psychology of the brain, come up with a creative game. For me to execute the task at hand I would have to teach myself the language of computer programming.
Other kids had books or dolls, but I clung to my purple GameBoy Color with its handful of games. This entailed hours of losing at Centipede, wishing I was as talented as my mother at Frogger, and trying my hardest to “catch ‘em all” in Pokémon. When I felt lonely, pressing the power button opened up worlds of characters and storylines. This GameBoy changed my life in ways my seven-year old self could hardly know - it introduced me to video games. Without this exposure to the digital world, I would have never found my true passion for programming.
Different programming languages have been developed for many different reasons. A "programming language" is a language designed to designate a set of actions to be executed by a computer. A programming language is therefore a practical way of giving instructions to a computer to operate. Programs are created to control the behavior of a machine.
The historical backdrop of PC advancement is regularly alluded to in reference to the diverse eras of registering apparatuses. Each of the five eras of machines is portrayed by a real mechanical improvement that at heart changed the way workstations work, bringing about progressively more modest, less expensive, all the more effective and more productive and solid registering units.
“Digital games are now being used to teach babies the alphabet, to help kids monitor their diabetes and overcome ADD, to teach both practical and tactical skills to the military, to teach financial derivatives to auditors and to teach CAD software to engineers, among many other things. And this is just the beginning” Marc Prensky (2001)
Furthermore, the last disadvantage is users have an insufficient device for versatility, clients would have to make additional purchases of a big platform and chair to use or support the technology so that it is strenuous to breakage whilst
Johnson reveals from things such as video games, television and film, and the internet. When playing video games, it induces and stimulates the brain reward center in the brain, like which a system is created where reward is given through new discovery and exploration. With each decision you make, you are rewarded or punish by it. Television’s reward system is like video games with audience require more cognitive work to pay attention to detail and information in the background. The internet requires the user to be obligated to focus and learn new interfaces. Johnson emphasizes in video games that through advancement in new insight can be related back to a higher form of education.
Today, 92% of all Americans have access to a computer(Anderson) in the form of a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or desktop computer. The first analog computers were developed during WW2, and they rapidly advanced into the 50s, and 60s. However, by the 70s the Digital Age was on the horizon. Giants like Apple, IBM, and Microsoft pushed development through the 80s; the PC Revolution had begun. The PC Revolution had a profound impact of millions of lives, transforming not only America but the entire world by opening new sales markets, and changing the way they interact with other humans.
What is Java? Java, in it’s simplest definition, is a dynamic computer application that can run a program to accomplish a task. Java runs in all sorts of things in the average person’s life; things such as car stereo systems, televisions, cell phone applications, websites, and more. But, where did it come from, and how does it work, and how has it impacted our lives today?
Hacking, as many understand it, is the attempt to access a computer system that one has not been authorized to access. While the reasons people hack can differ widely, in general, the intent is malicious. The growth of computer hacking has grown exponentially with the advent of computer networks and personal computing. While it is a difficult field to enter because of the expertise necessary for one to be effective, for those who are knowledgeable, the number of potential targets is virtually unlimited. Furthermore, once the crime has been committed, it can be very difficult to find the perpetrator and prosecute them. In essence, the advent of the internet has made it possible for a person sitting in a closet in their basement to reach out and touch highly secured computer systems all over the world.
Java is an all-around language with it being one of the most used language of 2014 (TIOBE Software: The Coding Standards Company) it was even used in Google’s android operating system (Rosenblatt, Seth) which is home to 84% of the mobile operating system market share (IDC: Smartphone OS Market Share). Java has the flexibility to be used in all fields; cross platform and able to be ported over to other systems. As I mentioned earlier Java was originally made for a television remote and evolved from that point, Java had evolved
The CPU (central processing unit) in a computer system works by instruction which must be in binary style coding (binary is made up of 1s and 0s). The issue with binary is the complication for humans to comprehend binary and so the programming that takes place in the present day, is carried out using symbolic languages with the use of English like statements.
