Stories are the same in many ways, although, one reads them for their differences and the differences are what matters. The two short stories, “Two Kinds” and “Catch the Moon” are polar opposites and exactly the same simultaneously. Their cultures are extremely different but those differences are what make the theme for the stories, which is to overcome a struggle in life you have to be devoted to overcoming it, applicable the same way
The short story “Catch the Moon” has a theme that is impacted by its surroundings and cultural setting. “Catch the Moon” is about a boy named Louis who goes through the tragedy along with his father of his mother dying. The cultural difference in the story is probably the largest contrast of the stories. In “Two Kinds” the mother out of tradition is strict with her daughter making her do things that she thinks are the best for her, while on the other hand in “Catch the Moon” the father lets his son do as he pleases but still wishes the best for him. Culture wise the stories are opposite however on the side of theme they share many similarities. Louis from “Catch the Moon” was trying to persevere on and move forward with life after his mother died, on the other hand the daughter from “Two Kinds” was also trying to move on and do different things and succeed, they aren’t identical however they share similar qualities such as being able to persevere through hard times. Each of their cultures also impacted the theme in the same way, while one story was laid back and the other way strict and harsh they still in the end came of with similar points to be put across. Each story compared shows that people from different worlds can have the same problems and be impacted by events the same way as others from other places can
Although the stories’ main components mirror each other, they still differentiate. For example, in “The Devil and Tom Walker,” everyone believes Tom has made a deal with the devil, whereas in “Young Goodman Brown,” the author questions the actuality
The similarities between the two stories speak of life's lessons and the sometimes-painful road we have to take in order to gain life
These two stories were also very different, they were written in different views. The second story was written in first person, it told a story about a past experience. The first story was very general, it related to many women readers,
Have you read or heard of the two short stories that are called The Tell a Tale Heart or the Short story that is called called There Will Come Soft Rains. They are both short stories written by authors with different writing styles that are quite unique. Both stories were very different written by very different authors The Tell a Tale Heart was written by the author Edgar Allan Poe. The other story’s author that wrote the story There Will Come Soft Rains was named Ray Bradbury. The Authors both use quite unique writing styles but they are very different types of writing style. They both are in different genres one is a horror story and one is a Sci-FI. Both of these stories are quite different but also the same as they are very interesting
The first aspect both stories have in common is the fact that both of the women are oppressed by a man in their life.“The
Although the stories’ main components mirror each other, they still differentiate. For example, in “The Devil and Tom Walker,” everyone believes Tom has made a deal with the devil, whereas in “Young Goodman Brown,” the author questions the actuality of the night’s events: “Had Goodman Brown fallen asleep in the forest and only dreamed a wild dream of a witch-meaning?” Even if the incidents never did transpire, Goodman Brown could not return to his Christian life. On the other hand, Tom Walker tried living a Christian life again, but the devil still carried him off. The protagonists’ relationship with their wives also varied between the stories. Goodman Brown loved his seemingly innocent wife, Faith; while Tom Walker hated his termagant wife and though he
In both short stories, Campbell and Bowen had wrote a modern adaptation of classic stories. These tales and ballads are adapted to incorporate the author’s culture and life. Offer a different variation that is contextually significant. Both stories are like an expanded version of the tales and ballad. They modified some aspects of the story while maintaining the essence, or offer a different perspective of the concept of tales and ballad.
Although some stories are written by completely different authors, countless stories can and have shared similar themes and ideas. One example of two stories sharing similar themes and ideas is of the stories, Sticks and Salt and Growing up Hmong in Laos and America. In the story, Sticks and Salt, Phuoc Nguyen talks about his life growing up as a Vietnamese refugee in America. On the other hand, in the story, Growing up Hmong in Laos and America, Pa Xiong Gonzalo talks about her life growing up as a Hmong refugee growing up in America. Even though some stories may share similarities, there will always be differences—whether they are in the way the stories were written or in the stories itself. The two stories, Sticks and Salt and Growing up Hmong in Laos and America, share similarities when it pertains to the topic of being a refugee and to the topic of family while sharing differences when it pertains to the topic of marriage.
The stories we read in class had a lot of distinct similarities in each story. One similarity I saw was; all the stories introduced their settings in the beginning. Also, all the stories explain some truths about the world we live in. For example, in The Lottery, this story shows the danger of blindly following traditions of the community was so used to playing the lottery, that it has become a normal habit for them not realizing the damage this “lottery” is causing them and the people who has to lose their life for it. Another example, in The Lottery, is when Mrs. Delacroix turned against her good friend Tessie by picking up the largest stone to kill her which shows that there are certain friends you may have and when certain situations happens, their true colors will show and they may not have been a true friend to begin with. Also, in Young Goodman Brown, along his spiritual journey he encountered people he knew already, but then those people started to act the total opposite of what Goodman thought of his friends. This shows that in life, not everything is what it seems, no matter how you see it. Another example is
Each story makes use of a very unique tone and form of narration yet these same qualities can be compared to some extent across these essays. The authors utilize different forms of writing to convey their intended focus to the audience. I found each story relative to one another in that they all seemed to touch of the subject of the roles of different genders in our contemporary society maybe even across different cultures.
Throughout all short stories, there can be multiple similarities, and differences. But, more specifically, the three stories, “Harrison Bergeron”, “Liberty”, and “The Most Dangerous Game” share(s) similarities and differences. There can be similarities and differences in setting, character, conflict, and theme.
In America and other countries of similar and contrasting cultures, we like to be right, we like to be on top, and we want to be recognized for both respectively. Competition is an underlying theme in so much of what we do in our daily lives. Whether it’s getting a better grade on a test than your friend, winning a football game or even speeding up faster than the car next to you when the light turns green. Competition, whether we like it or not, surrounds us and we participate in it willingly. We all want to stand on that podium and receive the gold medal, for then we are better than someone else and we can look down upon him or her because we have achieved something they have not. This competition and trying to be better than the person
The two stories are comparable in that, Nature gives no sector to the conditions of the people who have become tangled in the stories offered. Examples of this impressive similar themes stand out in “The Open Boat," with one of the opening sentences being, "none of them knew the color of the sky" (Crane, p.584). Congruently, like the “To Build a Fire” in the sentence, “day had broken cold and gray" (London, p.628). Both writers refuse to give compassion towards the conditions of the individuals. Also, both writers are cynical in their interpretations of human race and are highly conscious of the natural world. The illustrations of their characters show humans who have confidence in that they are sturdy and can skillfully endure, nevertheless these characters often over guesstimate themselves which can lead to a considerate of their own humanity as they look down their
The Stories Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creek and “The Guest” by “Uma Krishnaswami” both share a similar theme, Don’t judge a person by the way they look. Both of these stories show this theme throughout the both stories. Even though they share the same theme they show it in different ways.
The two tales ¨The 100-foot journey¨ written by Richard C. Morais, and ¨The Alchemist” written by Paulo Coelho, are similar because both of the main characters change throughout the story due to events occurring in their lives that heavily affects them. Though the character’s development in the story may be similar, the way that both of the stories are presented is very disparate. First of all the stories are presented in different forms, ¨The 100 Foot Journey” is a movie and ¨The Alchemist” is a book. The stories are in different forms but they will still have the components necessary for a story. Comparing these components will show the differences between the similar idea stories of ¨The 100 Foot Journey¨ and ¨The Alchemist.
