Databases and Data Communication Databases are great when you want to create a model of data such as numbers for figuring out how much you can spend on a new home when you are in the buying marketing, you can use excel to figure out how much you can spend and a monthly payment. You can also use a database to track of shipping components from a trade show that you are in charge of. You can use a database to organize the information about the components and equipment that will make a booth work and run properly at the trade show to.
First a company must understand the relationship between the data they want to keep track of, in the scenario

In the second scenario, I am managing a hand full of employees and I need to make some decisions on how to run my company’s technological functions with the emphases being on the computer network first. Several of my employees work from home; I need to keep this in mind when setting up my network. I need choose between a LAN (local area network) and a WAN (wide area network). The LAN is a network connected at a single site verses a WAN network which a network connected between two or more separate sites. Since I do have employees that will be working from home I need to choose the LAN network because the employees can get into the network through wireless connections.
So this information has answered another question about the network set up for my business, it does need to be wireless. Wireless will make the setup of the office a little easier because there will not be a need for a lot of wires running from computer to computer. A wireless modem would work for my business. Everything would be connected through an ISP (internet service provider).
There is a need for security as well to ensure that all data input and output are protected within the company. The clients need to know that the information is protects which creates a need for a VPN (virtual private network). A VPN uses the
Databases are the heart of the company. This is where all crucial company information is stored and can be accessed. Some databases are stored on site others in remote locations or using clouds. The information within a database can be manipulated in any way that the company needs it to be. Databases help to quickly search and retrieve information, it saves from data redundancy.
Second, Database is needed to take the collection of all sorts of sensitive data to organize, analyze, and extract data. It is the heart of many functions in today’s world. For example, when a password or user in a program it is checking the information type in against the information it stored in order to open the software. Databases solve most of the data management problems that are encountered.
Each location has its own local network thus it is distributed across the company, however this has its pros and cons that can affect the company. With the implementation of a WAN as defined in Telecommunications Essentials “A wide area network (WAN) is a group of computer networks connected over long distances by telecommunications links, which can be either wireline or wireless.” (Goleniewski & Jarrett, 2007, p. 201) The benefits that a WAN will bring to Kudler Fine Foods is a centralized management of all systems and an ease of use communication from store to store. As stated earlier along with the WAN, each location will also be implementing a WLAN. This shall improve network coverage and give each location the ability to place computer systems or POS machines in locations that may have not been possible before due to the lack of a hardline or ability to install a new line. Wireless technology has greatly improved over the years and has transitioned from an additional layer that may not be needed or only added if there was room in the budget to a
There are various types of equipment that the company should look for when considering this network. The first item to look at when considering equipment is the Operating system and software that we would need. Next, the group took into consideration the type of server the company needs to make this network a reality. Another thing that we looked at is the possibility of having ThinClients over regular desktops for all workstations. Of course, it was taken into consideration that some employees would not want ThinClients. So, we show the type of tower we plan to place into those spaces, along with any peripheral device for both. Then, we will look at the network devices that will go into each building that include switches, routers, repeaters, hubs, and wireless access points. Finally, the group will note guidelines for choosing a local ISP at each site. Each Item outlined helps to build a network based on the specifications given by the company.
All goals must be measurable to then measure the progress towards the successful outcome, to measure progress is to monitor and access success and achievement.
The Newton Ad Agency will be using a Wide Area Network (WAN) network since its connectivity needs to span over a number of locations. The WAN connection should be able to provide the likeness of a Local Area Network (LAN) connection in regards to performance for the branch offices, support several applications, and have a high performance. The headquarters and two branch offices will use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to the internet and require at least two routers, security gateways, and Ethernet switches at all three locations. All of these devices will be connected with full mesh WAN connections that tie to the Austin headquarters with the utilization of both Internet and private WAN connectivity. This type of connection will allow for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and video services to be supported and can accommodate both wired and wireless LAN infrastructures. The network will be implemented with the
Data management is vital to any business as this is a key tool to an organisations business improvement, as you can refer back to data, and compare them against benchmarks. Analysing data can provide evidence for possible future structure such as identify trends, as well as indicate where improvements can be made. However there are strict procedures to be followed when collecting and storing data.
evidence of studies that dispelled many of the myths about the drug. n118 For example,
Take inventory for example, Linton (n.d.) stated that “by using a database, you can replace manual methods of inventory control and reduce the time, cost and effort of inventory management” (para. 1). So basically, databases streamline the processes. When time is saved, productivity is increased. You can also look at this project to see how businesses utilize databases for their employee information. The forms that were created for this project show just how simplified inputting information has become. Almost everything is now in one database, and it can be shared across tables. It is the same concept for customer information.
Mr. Steve Johnson owner of a small landscaping firm has requested a small business network proposal. The goal is create a network proposal that will accommodate Mr. Johnson’s requirements. First, an ISP with stable fast connection selected will prevent issues such as slow speeds, disconnections, downtimes and network interruptions. The proposal will have recommended hardware, software and network connection that will be beneficial to the four full-time employees. The four desktop PCs best specifications for small business networks that will allow the employees to work without having slow boot up and slow application issues. A high-speed stable LAN network that links up with the networked printer and four desktop PCs chosen will meet the requirements of the proposal to fulfill Mr. Johnson’s small business network needs.
Ideally, each local office would integrate its computers with a LAN, so that all employees would be able to share information, and resources such as printers. In case there are multiple buildings in an office (like in the corporate office), each building would have its own LAN, and the LANs could be connected by a Backbone Network.
Our company has just over 120 employees, with approximately one third of the employees being remote, and a large sales team that travels more than 50% of the time. We have a single network administrator to support the entire company, and unfortunately due to conflicting schedules I was not able to interview him as originally planned. However, I was able to interview one of our Integration Managers, Nick Dixon, who confirmed for me that our office uses a LAN, with wireless access points for in office employees and Virtual Private Network (VPN) access for remote employees and those who travel. Regrettably, Nick was not familiar with all the equipment specifications, nor could he confirm things like speed, but he did share he knows we have one server currently, our VPN client is Cisco AnyConnect and there is an upgrade planned this year to support our company’s planned employee growth over the next 3 years. Per Nick, our network is primarily used for file sharing, internet access and services, and resource sharing of hardware and software. Nick also said, “Our network is crucial to ensure our employees have the tools needed to do their work, and to effectively communicate with each other.” Without our network, we would not be able to have remote employees, nor would we be able to afford all necessary hardware and software to do business and stay competitive. Additionally, Nick pointed out that we maintain a network for our customers, since our product is provided as a hosted application. We manage this secured LAN, via VPN, for our customers by outsourcing servers and storage through a third party company called
Since one office is in the center of the WAN, it would be the most logical location for the main server headquarters. This main location would be home to six servers, two of them being print servers and the other four each hosting their own specific applications to all of the workstations in the network. The first of the four servers would hold the business management applications needed by any of the accountants or human resource teams. The second would hold the medical managing software that would hold all patient information, insurance, and bills that could be accessed from any of the 5 office locations in the network for both doctor and patient convenience. The third will be used to host a web server and the final system will be used as a domain controller that will manage the users and groups on the network.
“A database is a structured collection of records or data that is stored in a computer system. In order for a database to be truly functional, it must not only store large amounts of record, but also be able to access those records fast and efficiently. In addition, new information and changes should also be easy to input.” (tech-faq.com) To be useful over a long term the database should be able to store all the records necessary for the business to function as well as be able to get all of this information back in case of a system failure or a crash. If all the information is loss a business could go bankrupt so the database is a fail
Advancements in the information technology sector have brought many benefits to the people all around the world. Today with computer networking, we can chat, speak and see each other over a long distance. Data communication refers to the transmission of the digital signals over a communication channel between the transmitter and receiver computers. Communication is possible only with wired and wireless connectivity of the computers with each other.
