The modernization of Australia was accelerated by the gold rush and has kept Australia up to date and has advanced us into our modern world. One thing that has pushed Australia further in our discoveries is the economic growth that began from the gold rush. Economic growth has made many people living in Australia create large companies and businesses that have thrived and become global. Globalisation can be both positive and negative as it can have a negative effect on the environment (from the large manufacturers) but has made modernization of Australia possible. It has also created an expansion that has made Australia contribute to the importing and exporting of the world. Back in the 1850’s, this was also beginning with the gold rush and
Structural Change and Australian Economy Structural change is the change in the pattern of production in an economy as certain products, processes of production and industries disappear and are replaced by others. The past century has seen the relative decline of agricultural and manufacturing industries, and the rise of services and new technology sectors. Structural change can be caused by a wide range of economic influences including changes in the pattern of consumer demand and technological change. The speed of structural change depends on the ability of an economy or industry to adjust quickly. People's natural resistance to change and government regulation often impedes the process of
This report will show an overview of the current state of the Australian economy and its management by the Federal government through examining economic indicators such as economic growth (GDP), unemployment, inflation and trade.
Many men, who worked on the farms, quit in search of gold. Woman became very important, in many cases, the woman and children were left to work on the land, with the help of Aboriginal stockman. A person could become very rich overnight. The upper class were not only the ones who had money now. People who worked hard would be rewarded. The boost to the economy helped pay for the modernisation of the whole of Australia. Roads, schools, and churches were built. Train lines were built to link major cities. The discovery of gold had also stopped convict transportation. The diggers came from all different backgrounds, but they worked together and considered themselves equal. They were free from social class. Today, Australia is very much free of class.
Australia became a commonwealth of the British Empire in 1901. It was able to take advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. Now, Australia has a prosperous Western-style capitalist economy, with a per capita GDP at the level of the four dominant West European economies. Rich in natural resources, Australia is a major exporter of agricultural products, minerals, metals, and fossil fuels.
For many years now, Australia’s trade has continually been evolving and improving. Throughout most of the 1900’s, Britain was Australia’s main trading partner. Trade with Britain was 5 times greater than with
“Without the discovery of Gold Victoria would not be the place that it has become today.” I believe this statement is true, without the Gold Rush, Australia wouldn’t be nearly as established as it is now. The Gold Rush in Victoria caused mass colonisation and population growth, and it made Australia the diverse and multi-skilled society.
The massive amount of immigrants especially Chinese brought unique cultures to Australia. The gold rush affect other businesses. Everyone rushed to the gold fields in hope that they would find lots of gold and become rich. This meant that there was lack of people doing other jobs such as farming. The gold rush also had a huge effect on the Australian economy and also the development of the nation. The gold rush effected some of the people working on the goldfields. Some people lucked out and would find big lots of gold and would become rich but not very many people ever did that. The abandonment of jobs had a great effect on the shortage and cost of the labour in the
Good Morning fellow delegates; I am honoured to be here today to provide you with my opinion on if Australia is becoming too Americanised.
Globalisation is not new. Australia has been involved in trade, investment, financial flows, technology transfers and the migration of labour since its foundation as a colony. What has changed is the size, direction and influence of these transfers, especially since 1980. There are a number of factors that have aided this transformation. They include:
The phrase of globalisation is becoming very popular around the world, and it gives free movement to communicate with people regarding cultural, economic, social, technological, political, educational and businesses. In the modern society globalisation has impacted on many human lives, which started in the western countries in (1492), according to Kevin H. O'Rourke, Jeffrey G. Williamson, and then it expanded all over the world. The word of globalisation can describe many different aspects such as globalisation of nothing, the making of the global society and the globalisation of wealthy and poor. According to Robert Shuey in (2001), ‘’globalisation is widely and somewhat loosely used a term, intended to describe the recent and rapid process of international, economic, social, and political integration’’. The idea of his words that globalisation is giving an opportunity to people, so they can travel, invest internationally, and communicate this can help many businesses people especially in Australia to invest more widely and internationally. Globalisation has impacted on Australian society in all terms of life, for instance, it has an enormous impact on health and education system, on technology, and on the Australian economy. But one of the categories is increasing so widely among Australian people who affect many young people’s lives is the impact of racism on the health and wellbeing of young Australians. The word racism is the very phenomenon aspect in the Australian society, especially between young people. On the very high percentage of many young Australians are experiencing racism between the nation, most of these racists are because of skin colour, cultural beliefs, different traditions from different countries, speaking another language and gender. Racism plays a significant role in the society, and many people are aware of this because when they face radical discrimination from any individual, they feel angry and frustrated, and sometimes they feel of not belonging to the local community.
There is no doubt to reveals the fact that globalization has benefited more than developing countries. Globalization is misused or over used. The difference between rich and poor continued from the beginning of time. Nearly thousand years ago people use barter system to fill the gap between demands and supply. Due to lack of technology and lack of communication system most people sell and buy products within the boundary of a country but today recent era is a totally different era. Global currency, global language and advance technology provide a platform to stay connected all over the world.
Melbourne and Sydney embraced the fact that the world was getting more technologically advanced, that new styles and movements were emerging and that experimentation was everywhere. Australia was not in a time lapse during this movement and followed closely behind American and Europe with use of technologies and trends.
The effects of Globalisation on Australia can be disseminated into a number of different categories. For the purposes of this report five major categories including Economic, Social, Cultural, Environmental and Political have been explored and summarised but is by no means exhaustive.

Australia has several ties with other countries. These ties are established in several ways, one of which is through trade. The nature of trade includes exporting and importing goods and services which form trade links with partner countries. Trade comes with its advantages and disadvantages. Australia also takes part in multilateral agreements, such as APEC, to be able to strengthen trade links.
