The York University/Sheridan College Program in Design (YSDN) is the first and largest program in Ontario that offers the Bachelor of Design Honours degree. YSDN’s strenghts derive from the combination of a large research university, and an institution known for pushing creativity and innovation. After nearly two decades of an incredible run, news about the joint program’s discontinuation has been publicized. The fall 2018 incoming class will be the final class of YSDN as the program discontinues in 2022.

Assessing personal leadership ability is a daunting task but with the help of the Yukl and Bennis texts, I will make an attempt.

The Path-Goal theory is explained and application of the model is discussed with attention given to the continuing education of medical professional’s serving as an illustration. Consideration of the similarities between the four leadership styles identified in the Path-Goal model and those outline in the Situational Leadership model are explained. After consideration of the similarities a reporting of insights gain from personal application of the Path-Goal questionnaire found in Northouse (2007) is given.

When I first found out about the school's leadership program, I thought it was something I wanted to do. However, I almost did not apply for it. I filled out the application on the last day it was due and waited in anticipation for an answer. The leadership program has been a positive experience in my life. As our firm grows in revenue and size, opening new offices in other cities, the number of our employees have grown significantly and will continue to grow along with our business. This presents a challenge in our organization to find and raise leaders as well as improve our existing leadership to be more effective. To address this issue, we need to implement a Leadership Training Program that will train, educate, and encourage our managers to be more effective leaders in their departments, which will help raise employee’s morale and productivity. This proposal will include strategies that will improve our management’s ability to communicate with our employees, and self-reflection exercises that will develop our managers personally and improve their leadership skills.
