Children weren’t forced to participate but they were encouraged to do so in order to change their lifestyles (Zuraikat 2010). What participating children had to do in order to be part of the walking program was walk outside a certain distance and when it rained they had to walk inside in the gym in order to continue to be part of it, the goal for everyone was to reach five to ten miles each semester (Zuraikat 2010). Soon after everyone finished participating in the walking program the BMI data from the children was gathered and was used to determine which schools of the three in Western Pennsylvania decreased based on baseline of records or increased (Zuraikat 2010).
