In the distinction criteria of this assignment I am going to be comparing the different public services and evaluating them by saying why discipline is needed and why it is so important within the public services, I will be backing my work up by showing evidence from real life case studies Discipline is very important for anyone who is part of the Uniformed Public Services. Discipline is put in place to maintain order and to make sure that everyone works to the best of their abilities. All the services are organised in a similar way with a clear rank structure and clearly defined roles and responsibilities, which all rely on discipline to work effectively. One of the services that need to be disciplined is the Paramedic's service …show more content…
The police should always set a good example to the public showing that they are working productively and are reducing crime in the community making the public feel safe. An example of how the police services do their job properly “Norfolk Police Officer Up For Bravery Award” this officer put his life at risk by trying to do his job correctly. Paul Ridgway the Chairman of Norfolk Police Federation said “We are extremely pleased that Martin has been chosen to be nominated for an award for the bravery he showed during this particularly different and significant incident”. This is effective as all the other police officers will look up to Martin and will want to do something as brilliant he has done. Fire service personnel, regardless of rank have a duty to protect life and property from fire and other hazards. Other duties include carrying out risk assessments, enforcing fire legislation and educating the community. The fire fighters duties include attending emergency incidents, dealing with fires, flooding, chemical spillages, terrorist incidents and checking water hydrants. All members will need to be disciplined correctly to carry out every aspect of being a fire fighter. I think that all public services should have a high level of discipline with the crime rate rising more and more each year the services need to work to the best of their
Discipline is needed in the Public Services because it maintains safety and professionalism. If the uniformed public services did not have discipline and rules about the way that their employees should behave, then they would be free to do anything, leading to chaos because they will be able to get away with what they want without consequences, also no jobs would not be completed or done properly. Having discipline in the public services enables to present their service with pride to help then to do their job effectively, it supports their job for them to be approachable in the right manor, to interact and build trust.
Discipline is the quality of being able to behave and work in a controlled way which involves obeying particular rules or standards. However, it can be interpreted in an alternative way; if you refer to an activity or situation as a discipline, you mean that, in order to be successful in it, you need to behave in a strictly controlled way and obey particular rules or standards. Punishment can be used to correct disobedience in some circumstances.
Discipline is one of the principles of management that will guide the decisions and actions of managers. Discipline will demand attention from both the managers and the beneficiaries for the program to work efficiently. The
Fire fighters put their life in danger every single day to help and save the public .Fire fighters must be prepared for the endangers they encounter and be able to respond immediatly to a fire or any other emerginces that arise because fighting fires is so complex it requries organzation and team work. On TV, police officers’ lives are often portrayed as glamorous and filled with excitement, but this is not the case in real life. Police officers’ lives are not filled with heroic acts everyday, nor are they filled with hardcore criminals everyday. The media has glorified police work for many years and there is no sign of it stopping. Police officers’ jobs are to maintain order, prevent crime, and investigate crime and witnesses. There are several different types of policing like: community, zero-tolerance, and problem oriented policing.
Fire fighting is important and helpful when it comes to protecting people, saving people, and being prepared for the situation. The work field has more roles than putting out a fire. Safety gear is an important part of a firefighter as well as their truck. The work field also includes having to work very hard to get prepared for various situations. Firefighting can be broken down into different job titles. A volunteer firefighter may have different modifications and procedures than the other that may be more intensely trained or have to get certified at a certain level. Preparation or training is often done during the day of a firefighter. As well as fund raisers, teaching or informing others of how to avoid fire and what to do if a fire is

Many people hear the word “discipline” and immediately associate negative connotations. Fortunately, I have not received any sustained disciplinary actions over the last three years. I also have no documented concerns in any of my performance evaluations over the last three years. A6,A12,A13,D2012,D2013,D2014 I am a committed and reliable employee, dedicated to the mission of the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD). This reliability has been noted in my performance evaluations, one supervisor stating, “He is dependable regarding commitments and performance objectives, and he completes his projects on time”. A6,A12,D2014 If you go further back throughout my career, you will see this is a pattern and one that I am proud of. It shows a thorough
Breaking down levels of police work and their duties within society to completely understand the impact that their work
It is worth noting that the public perceives an officers job as always fighting crime. Megan O’Neill (2011) explains that police cannot
On a daily basis, we read stories of officers who do wrong. For examples, theft, use of force, misappropriation use of public office, abuse of authority, and even simple things like speeding, are all unethical behavior on the part of those that the public has trusted to serve and protect them. On the other hand, it must be noted that the huge majority of police officers are good, hard-working and dedicated people who strive to serve the public and do the right thing at every turn.
Discipline is obeying the superior authority, accepting what is normal in family, society, country, and even the world. The world works the way they do because of the discipline. There are two types of discipline, internal and external. Internal discipline comes from oneself, for example, when a person wants to discipline their self to respect everyone they meet. Internal discipline is when a person accepts to control their self, and refrain from certain things. External discipline is often enforced by the superior authority, usually by the governments. To better illustrate discipline I will be using these words; Medieval Age: 5th to 15th century; deviate: to go against the normal; sodomy: an act of having anal or oral sex.
Police officers are sworn to protect and serve their community at all times. In order to fulfill this obligation, law enforcement officers follow a code of ethics. The code of ethics that police officers follow ensure the they are being fair when carrying out their duties, they must follow the various rights and freedoms of the law, and must also carry out this code in the officers personal life (Griffiths, 2016). The ethics of a police officer is a detrimental part of any police department to ensure that there is a smooth running police force at all times. This need also extends to the community, following a good code of ethics in policing helps build trust among community members. Although it is often assumed that all police officers are in fact good, there are officers that may become corrupt at some point during their career. This misconduct can happen in a variety of different ways, such as the commission of a criminal offence and off duty activities or misconduct, and either involves individual officers, a group of officers, or it can be entrenched within the entire policing system.
Discipline is defined as ‘some action taken against an individual who fails to conform to the rules of an organisation of which he or she is a member’, (Wheeler, 1976, as cited by Dundon and Rollinson, 2011).
