Health Systems Issues and Management
Different systems in healthcare dictate the quality of services available to their respective clients. One of the common systems in medical practice is the primary healthcare delivery. This system is comprised of primary care institutions, nursing homes, hospitals, and intensive care units. Within the primary healthcare system, different professionals use their managerial competencies and skills in order to ensure quality services are available to the targeted patients. A wide range of policies in healthcare have emerged in order to ensure more people receive quality medical support (Ratnapalan & Uleryk, 2014). In order to ensure this goal is realized, management has become a powerful policy agenda in the primary healthcare setting. The term “health system” refers to the organization of institutions, resources, and professionals that offer sustainable services to support the medical needs of the target population. This definition explains why there are numerous types of health systems. For instance, the nature of laws and care delivery models in a given nation define its healthcare system. This discussion focuses on the issue of leadership within the realm of management and its role in the changing healthcare environment.

How can we ensure that effective healthcare leadership is incorporated in today’s organization? While continued reports exist of organizations struggling to stay afloat, research has indicated that healthcare organizations are lacking in effective styles of leaderships. With fast approaching changes with mergers and acquisitions, many healthcare organizations have chosen to restructure their facilities to accommodate the rapid growth in the industries crisis of inadequate leadership in organizations. In fact, numerous reports have surfaced depicting growing needs for organizations to change their current leader’s roles to help improve the potential success of developing effective leadership.
The value and leadership skills in healthcare are both very professions are vital skills that are needed to provide everyday care (Graber, 2008). This literature review will explore the important values and leadership in health care. The review will provide the understandings of both topics. The term value can be determined by a person's standards and principles (Gaudine & Beaton, 2002). According to Grojean, Resick & Diskson (2004) leadership, is an actual way to improve patient`s. A good leader is said to reveal certain roles and behaviors that influence others in the way of positive change and direction. Viinamäki, (2009) back these same ideas but also have confidence in that there is a difference between value and leadership. They believe that leaders are viewed as individuals who can connect through motivation, visions, and inspire positive directions to generate company and organizational change. Graber (2008) impression of leadership can be understood as the capability of one person to impact the behaviors and actions of other people.

For years in the United States healthcare industry, leaders were not hired with formal training already under their belts, but were thrust into management. This under sight has now started to change because of the new health care laws. The healthcare field has realized that employee turnover was high, and costs were out of control. A main cause of such problems were discovered to be due to a lack of proper guidance and leadership. Managing these fundamental challenges necessitates the ability to acquire knowledgeable research and implement it into a strategic plan of care for individuals and/or communities (Titzer et al., 2013). Team participation is a fundamental aspect of health care and continues to be instilled in people in order to ensure seamless operations and effective organizations . Teamwork is vital in healthcare. When all participants are engaged in a program, goals are successfully achieved. Being able to communicate and work collectively as a team requires an appreciation for each other’s area of practice. Every team member has an important role and being acknowledged provides a sense of responsibility and accountability. Essentially, inter-professional collaboration helps ensure that the patient is getting care that is not only accessible but also comprehensive. The plan of a patients’ care includes active participation by all health care professionals working interdependently in accordance to the patient’s preferences, values and beliefs. The health care team accomplishes the goal of meeting the patient’s medical needs by delivering evidence-based practice. To deliver quality care, the patient should always be involved.
Leadership in health is all about the competency of the leader that involves cultivating an environment in which all the providers and consumers can contribute to their full potential for any health activity in such that the consumers know what is available and what best possible they can achieve and the providers to support the consumers in the best way possible to get the necessary information and cure if required in regards to public health sector (Andrew Garmen, 2006). For this requires effective public health leader who is there within the community to make them realise what is available and what is required so as to be able to advocate for services that are unavailable but required (Koh, 2009). The 21st century with various emerging health related problems there is widespread recognition that the challenges posed by obesity, alcohol, smoking, climate change issues etc requires solution from public health approaches where the role of leadership remains intact in tackling the public health challenges of the 21st century (Pittman, 2013). This would need a leader as such who is a combination of administrative excellence with strong sense of professional welfare and builds enduring greatness through a paradoxical blend of personal humility and professional will for awareness rising to encourage and to initiate public health activities (Day et al., 2012).
A country’s economy and well-being depends upon how strong its healthcare system is. A country would grow into a stronger nation if the people are mentally and physically stronger. Moreover, healthcare systems are usually complex and complicated systems and thus, they need a lot of attention.
