“I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you.” The Crucible is written around the theme of sin and guilt. The girls dancing naked in the forest, the affair of John and Abigail, and John refusing to sign the agreement about the affair to be hung up on the church doors are all examples of sin and guilt. Reverend Parris saw Abby and the girls in the forest dancing, he also notice a kettle of soup on the grass. “I think I ought to say that I --- I saw a kettle in the grass where they were dancing.” (Act I, p. 39). Parris noticed some movement in the kettle, Abby told him a frog jumped in, they didn’t put it in there. Abby then began to explain to Hale and the Parris’ that Tituba made them drink chicken blood, which was a reason why Betty was unconscious. Tituba told Hale she is a good christian woman and blesses God, and would never compact with the Devil. This is an example of sin and guilt, as the girls were in the forest they committed a sin by drinking the blood, and they are all guilty for their actions. …show more content…
