Every person has a different point of view. Point of view is how someone observes someone or something. It is important to be able to see a situation from someone else’s point of view because everyone observes things differently. For instance, in the short poem “Beowulf” it describes Grendel as sinful and malicious which is from Beowulf’s point of view. However, in the book “Grendel”, which is from Grendel’s point of view, makes him sound more misunderstood and misconstrued than evil. In other words, “Beowulf” and “Grendel” tell the same story, but with two completely different points of view which ENGENDERS the reader’s opinion of the characters. Another example of point of view would be “The Three Little Pigs” and “The True Story
Point of view is a very important element of literature. In the book Literature Reading, Reacting, Writing point of view is described as, “the vantage point from which events are presented” (Kirszner and Mandell 300). The point of view of a story is simply the view of whoever’s telling it. Kirszner and Mandell inform readers that if the narrator can enter all the characters’ minds and always knows what is going on, then he is omniscient (303). Kirszner and Mandell also tell readers that if a narrator can only enter one character’s mind, then he is a limited omniscient narrator (304). Point of view plays an important role in the effectiveness of a story. By analyzing John Updike’s “A&P” one can observe how point of view is used to develop
Point-of-View – is the perspective or mode in which a story is being told. The individual narrating the story is someone the author of the story invents, so that he or she will tell the story for the ones reading it.
A point of view is a position in which the story is being told, but did you know that there is two point of views in The Three Little Pigs and The True Story of the Three Little pigs? The two stories have views changed by how the author tells them. In the story of the pigs it’s in third person, but in the wolf’s view he just wants sugar and see’s them as a snack so it’s first person. The story of “The Three Little Pigs” and “The True story of the Three Little pigs” have different point of views that help the readers understanding of the wolf.
An authors use of point of view can help to show a character's transformation throughout a story. In the story "Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gorgon who's the protagonist lacks intelligence and has the opportunity to get an operation that could make him smarter. Similarly, there is a mouse named Algernon who has already had the operation and has shown an increase in intelligence. Charlie decided to get the operation to become smart. This story is Charlie's personal account of what happened and what he felt before and after the operation. Daniel Keyes used Charlie's point of view to reveal his transformation by including his mental ability and his understanding of his community.
Point of view is something that many people argue as relativistic and subjective. To explain; it is the external circumstances and events that give reality shape or form which is dependent upon a single person. How does this relate to seeing? As I have mentioned before in a earlier paper we are all victims of our own biases and filters created through our outside means. As it becomes internalized and reflected back out towards the world which creates the binocular view as we have discussed in class lectures. The real question at this point becomes how these extensions of reality become a collective view-point? As an example at what point do we decide what blue is, what it is associations?
Harper Lee once wrote, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view… …until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”(33) Now, even though the quote is from a work of fiction, and written as dialogue, the quote does not become any less accurate. Books and movies have this tendency to reflect real life and have themes that are true in the real and fictional worlds. Although the book To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, and the award winning movie by the same title have their differences, they both share many common themes. To begin, both of the portrayals of the story demonstrated the common theme that one never truly understands a person until one sees the world from the other’s perspective.
The point of view is important in telling any story. How it affects A jury of her peers, and Trifles is a prime example of how important the point of view is to any story. A jury of her peers, and Trifles are the same story by the same author however the point of view makes it seem like they are two different stories. There are many few differences and many similarities.
Every single person on earth has their own point of view, and because of this many people react to situations differently than others. Our point of view is often affected by many things like culture, current events, and how others are acting, to name a few. Someone's point of view generally affects the way we think and react to every single thing we do. Point of view played a big role in To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, “One Friday Morning” by Langston Hughes and The Twilight Zone episodes “Quality of Mercy” and “Eye of the Beholder”. Although many people have somewhat similar points of views, in all of these “stories” there are a few main characters who have different points of views that affected the outcome of the stories.
Different points of view help readers to understand the story in several different ways. Reading a story in third-person is very different than reading a story in first-person. With the diverse point of views, the reader can see the different thoughts of the characters within the story.
Point of View: The point of view in the story is third person. It is third person because none of the characters were telling the story. The author was the one telling in the story. There was no I, me, us, you and we included in telling the story.
The point of view that a story is being told can have a major effect on the amount of information the readers/listeners are given causing the event to be misinterpreted. Similarly, The Storm and The Story of an Hour both written by Kate Chopin, are intriguing because both short stories are narrated in third person point of view which helps the readers understand all the characters’ point of views this also allows Kate Chopin to tell a full story that isn’t limited to a protagonists’ point of view. Point of view contributes to the story’s overall meaning because the information given to the reader can be from either one character or all the characters which determines the amount of information given. Using third person omniscient to narrate a novel is more effective because the narrator allows the reader to know every feeling, thought, objective, and action of all the characters rather than one character.
After reading both novel/ Poem Beowulf is an excellent example third point of view. In John Gardner’s novel Grendel, it is clear that first person point of view does not provide richer reading experience, while in the Epic poem Beowulf, it is clear that third person point of view overrides biases with clear actions.
Point of View: In Harry Potter the point of view is third person. It is third person because in the story someone is narrating the story to you.
Point of view is an important aspect of every novel. It can be argued that point of view in Wuthering Heights affects the entire story. The novel is told primarily through two narrators.
Literary point of view is the perspective from which the story is told and it plays a crucial role in any story because it decides both how the story and its characters are presented. Point of view also controls how much the audience sees and knows, thus regulating the pace of the story.
