The definition of family is defined in various ways to many different people. Many people may say their family includes the family of orientation, extended family, and family of procreation. It all depends on how the child is raised. Three important factors, out of six, that I consider to be the main functions of family are socialization, economic cooperation, and care, protection, and intimacy. Some families may very well address these functions, while others may not. And because of that, family may be quite hard to define because it goes above and beyond the surface.
According to Swartz and Scott (2009), family is defined as a group of people related to each other by blood, marriage, adoption or being sexually open in a relationship. The

I was on my best behavior. And there was no such thing as always being happy like I was when I am at home with my parents. I learned what it was like to be picked on, be mad, angry, happy, and develop friendships. I think my family addressed this function well, because I have matured to be able to communicate and socialize with all those around me, which includes how to act and feel.
Economic cooperation involves a family’s responsibility to provide for everyone’s physical and economic well being (Swartz & Scott, 2009). In history, families work in the field, as agriculturists and farmers to provide food. They also sold products that were farmed to provide money, shelter, and clothes. However, it is different nowadays. Now, both or either men and or women go to work to receive an income to help provide for their families.
When I was younger, my mom stayed home and worked at home and earned little income, while my dad worked at a factory and earned most of the income. But as our family grew, and the children got older, there were certain necessities needed such as bigger clothes, shoes, more food, and a bigger home. Therefore, my mom had to find a different job with a higher pay. Both of my parents did work and still work to provide most of the income for our family. When I got older and turned the legal age to work full time, I helped provide my parents the income in the family to help pay for small bills such as electricity,
A family consists of a group of interacting individuals related by blood, marriage, cohabitation, or adoption who interdependently perform relevant functions by fulfilling expected roles. (Edelman, Kudzma, & Mandle, 2014, p. 150)

Many people have different opinions about what define family. For example, Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines family as “A group of people living together.” I disagree with
The institution of a family can be viewed as the backbone of society by having a major role in the functioning of society. It is considered to have many essential functions like reproduction, socializing children, providing care and support, regulating sexual relationships, etc. Creating an infant is the beginning of how a family is significant in the functioning of society. The family then provides safety and economic stability for the child. The social norms, behaviors, and culture are then taught and learned by the child through exposure from peers and the environment. As the child continues to grow, the family is constantly giving the child love and support while the child learns his or her self-identity. The cycle of socialization, passing along culture, and providing guidance of self-purpose then continues from generation to generation. Families were essentially the main economic unit of society, however, that was before industrialization. Depending on the society and culture, the roles within the family can vary based on gender, class, and race. After industrialization, it was believed that men were the ones that should earn the money away from the household while the women took care of their children and house. Margaret L. Andersen and Taylor F. Howard explains, “Many men are now more engaged in housework and child care than was trust in the past, although women still provide the vast majority of this labor” (Andersen & Howard, 2014, p.279). However, women that were
Until I was about twelve I moved through homes like it was my job. Both sets of grandparents took me in as well as, aunts, uncles, and family friends. Living with many different parts of family did have its ups and downs, but I have mostly taken away only positive things. I have encountered many different parenting styles, and I grew up taking parts from each home I lived in. My grandparents had a very old school parenting style, which meant many chores and many family activities. My aunts and uncles were always the “cool” parents, which meant I basically got to do what I wanted whenever I wanted to. For the reason that I had to move around so much, I also had to switch schools just as many times. I have cycled through many sets of friends, in various schools. Some friends I have stayed in contact with and others not as much. Encountering many different homes and schools throughout my early childhood, I managed to grow up to be an independent women. It has motivated me to continue to do good for myself so I can one day give back to everyone that has helped me.
There are many different definitions about what the family is. Different theoretical positions influence these variations. For example, the functionalist sociologist George Peter Murdock defines the family as “a social group characterized by common residence, economic co-operation and reproduction. It includes adults of both sexes, at least two of whom maintain
A family is a group united by marriage, blood and adaption in order to satisfy intimacy needs, bear and socialize children. A family becomes a problem when it does not fulfill its purposes, particularly its purpose as a primary group.

The definition and the perception of family is different around the world and it keep evolving as time passes by, this means that family is socially constructed and the meaning of family can be whatever an individual says it is.
When you ask people for their opinion on the definition of a family, the first definition that comes to mind is the nuclear family. Some people would agree with the notation. However, others have a different interpretation of the definition. The definition that should describe a family is a group of people that loves each other and where someone can share their good and bad times.
A family can be defined in many ways, but the common denominator in all is the love and fulfillment one gets by being surrounded by family members. Families can sometimes be at odds with each other, but the strain of this type of relationship usually creates an upsetting feeling to the people involved. People want others to rely on, talk to, do things with, share, love, embrace, and be part of. No matter what the family dynamic is the qualities the word family has will remain the same, as time goes by, and life evolves once again for every person living their
A family is a group of two or more people that are related by blood, marriage (registered), adoption, step or fostering, and who usually live together in the same household. This includes newly-weds without children, gay partners, couples with dependants, single mums or dads with children, siblings living together, and many other variations (What is a family, 2013). A family consists of many variables that work together to form a system. The main functions of a family are to ensure that children are satisfactorily socialised into norms and values, to provide economics support for other family members, to satisfy the emotional love and security in a family and to provide a sense of place and position in the society.
The word family is very important as they are the supporting pillars in our lives. Thus family is defined as a group of individuals who share ties of blood, marriage, or adoption; a group residing together and consisting of parents, children, and other relatives by blood or marriage; a group of individuals residing together who have consented to an arrangement similar to ties of blood or marriage. www.yourdictionary.com. 2010). Family is important as it helps in shaping our lives, teaches us self – confidence, self discipline, love, care and affection. It is a place where we can always be our self.
What family means… The family forms the basic unit of social organization and it is difficult to imagine how human society could function without it. The family has been seen as a universal social institution an inevitable part of human society.
The definition historically is “people related by blood, marriage, or adoption”. The U.S. Census defines family as “a group of people united by the ties of marriage, blood, or adoption and constituting a single household”. William Goode, a sociologist who did research on family life, marriage and divorce, defines family as “at least 2 adult persons of opposite sex who reside together, have division of labor, engage in economic and social exchange, share many things in common, have parental relations with their children and the children have sibling relations”.
