Fast food or Bastard food?
Figure 1: . In 2010 A cartoon by Piraro about how fast food effect pigeons which representing the people who addicted on fast food. In the 21 century, people are suffering from all kinds of diseases and over 85% of them are caused by, an unhealthy, diet. In the United States, 25% of Americans eat fast food every day, which can cause heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, starting with overweight. The high levels of calories, fat and sodium in most fast food Figure 2: In 2009 a cartoon by Vanessa about how contradiction and irony happened when "healthy meals" shows up in fast food restaurant can eventually lead to other health problems. The cartoon on the right hand side was posted By Vanessa on November 10 2009. Sarcasm and ridicule are used to portray the cartoonist's opinion that no matter how "healthy" the fast food will become, because people are going to walk into the restaurant and order the same burgers and fries as they always did. People who are doing this are doing so out of laziness and addiction. So that, there is no other way except getting fat and unhealthy again. In the cartoon, The "Mchealthy" meal advertisement, the almond and the low-cal mandarin are only decorations for the unhealthy burgers and fries. The waiter with a pair of big glasses, represent, careless employee, and the words said the consumer offer more options "yeah... a big Mac and some fries" implies that he does not really care about the "Mchealty" meal, but only the burgers and fries that can satisfy him. The rhetorical appeals in Figure 2 include logos and ethos. The author argued that, eating healthy food like vegetable and nuts will actually make people healthier, but , not when they are mixed with fast food. This represents pathos because the characteristic of the person who is buying the food is still shown as a fat man, and it is a
Fast food has a harmful effect on society because it can cause obesity. The American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry believes obesity “Overweight children are much more likely to become overweight adults unless they adopt and maintain healthier patterns of eating and exercise.” (parag. 1).The causing and treating of obesity is complex but it is the most recognizable disease. Consistently eating fast food and a poor can lead to obesity in anyone. The risks of obesity include an increased risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. According to the American Heart Association, fast food “Studies have shown that over the past four decades, consumption of food eaten away from home has also risen alarmingly” (parag. 8). This means that fast food is high in fat, sugar, salt, carbs, calories, saturated and trans fats. This type of eating leads to a higher body mass index or gained weight. Children and adolescents are at a
In David Zinczenko’s article “Don’t Blame the Eater” he focuses on the fast food industry and their role in the increasing health and obesity issues of our nation’s children, as well as these issues potentially becoming a serious problem that we will all have to deal with if we collectively don’t do something about it now. When it comes to the topic of fast food, most of us can agree that it is not the best source of nutrition. It is unhealthy and can be the cause of many serious health issues with our children such as obesity related Type 2 diabetes, stomach ulcers and even heart disease, high cholesterol, sleep apnea or even cancer. We can even agree that fast-food diets are a major contributing factor to
Wisconsin Fast Plants are known to be great educational tools for classroom experiments. They germinate quickly and are easy to take care of. These plants germinate after 1 or two days and have a life span of about 30 to 40 days. (Marin and Terrana, 2004).
“Although many health authorities insist that there is no such thing as junk food, consumers find it a useful term for distinguishing nourishing food from products whose chief appeal is fun, convenience, and addictive taste; ‘bet you can't eat just one’ ”(Junk Food). Americans are spending about $4.6 billion a year on potato chips, and 23.5 billion a year on candy and gum. 46 Percent of adult Americans eat out on a typical day, and one third of them choose fast food. That is because the fast food industry has slowly become one of the symbols of American culture and is spreading to other cultures as well: McDonalds has 26,000 locations in 119 countries, Pizza Hut has more than 10,000 in 86 countries, and Subway has 14,500 in 75 countries. Commercials, signs, and huge advertisements are pushing junk food at us every day; people cannot even go to the grocery store without candy bars being lined up right by the checkout. The junk food industry realizes how appealing it can be. When a person is in a rush, they can easily eat a large meal without having to make a lot of decisions, work, dress up, or get out of their car. The speed and convenience fit Americans’ pressured lifestyles. It does not fit, however, to our health and wellness. A fast food meal, such as a Burger King Double Whopper with cheese, contains 965 calories, more than double the amount of fat, and as much as 750 grams too much sodium
One of the most unhealthy diets in the world is that of an American. It is made up of processed foods and a good amount of television. America easily has the most fast food restaurants in the entire world. Leave it to McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King or any other fast-food restaurant to serve extremely cheap and even unhealthier food at any time during the day or night. ”It tastes good so why not?” That seems to be the question many people are asking now-a-days. Because it is so easily accessible and processed, it is made to be very tasty and extremely unhealthy. Many Americans find his or herself indulging on the these fatty foods of America on a day-to-day basis. While it may taste good at the time, it has a terrible effect on your body
The luminosity of billboards and glowing signs gripping our every thought brings on an overwhelming and intense sense of: what do we eat first. Thinking about what our food is made of should be something that is higher on our priority list. Ever imagine that eating fast food could cause chronic issues that are directly linked to a decline in health? These are the pictures that Morgan Spurlock paints for us in his film. Spurlock uses ethos, logos, and pathos; to really drive home and emphasize how passionate he truly is about our ease of access to our obesity epidemic. Also there are a lot of displays in numerous different ways that the attraction, allure, and ambiance engulf us. Spurlock's film leads us to conclude that: fast food is extremely horrible for our
The fast food industry provides quick, cheap, and easy access to foods that in the customers opinion, is very delicious, and affordable, however this food which millions of people around the world are constantly consuming, could actually cause major health problems, and weight gain in the long run. Major fast food companies throughout the world know what they are doing when it comes to marketing towards all types of people. Some people will find numerous different things to blame for the epidemic of fast food making individuals overweight. In recent research on, or discussions of the fast food industry having an effect on people's health, a controversial issue has been raised, and that is the fact that this problem affects not only
The second way fast food contributes to our obesity epidemic is the unhealthy contents it is comprised of. There is no doubt that fast food is unhealthy. Even the ‘healthy’ options always have some unhealthy aspect to it. But we can’t deny that it is delicious and sometimes even better than if we were to make a similar burger or salad at home. However, this delicious taste comes with some costs-costs that negatively affect your health. As I’ve said before, fast food is high in calories and contains a lot of ingredients that we’ve never heard of before. But we’re not alarmed by because we are distracted by the food’s yummy flavor. Pollan and his wife and son went to McDonald’s for a lunch outing. After eating their entire meal, he was astonished
Fast food restaurants have revolutionized the United States. It has helped people with low salaries be able to afford food for their family, but at the cost of their own health. Ever since the first fast food restaurant opened, health rates have dropped and keep continuing to drop. The visual argument I have chosen takes place in Africa in an environment that is a nice sunny day with trees. There is also an obese giraffe saying “McDonald’s hits Africa”. The visual is sending a message to people raising awareness about the dangers of fast food and the increase of obesity. For example, in Sarah Muntel’s article “Fast
In today's fast paced world, many people don't actually take the time to think about the types of foods they consume on a daily basis. Fast food is taken for granted and is actually the only kind of food that some people consume. As a result of the kinds of foods people, eat there is a growing obesity crisis as well as a health crisis and the two are closely linked. It has been estimated that the costs of obesity will approach three hundred and fifty billion dollars each and every year by the year 2018 (Hellmich, 2009).
It is impossible to escape the endless number of fast-food advertisements, if one lives in the modern world. One might come across a minimum of three to five advertisements while walking on the street; ads plastered on every billboard, every TV commercial, every poster and flyer. There is no wonder why people are becoming fatter. Everywhere people look, they see food. People in this century have food constantly being pushed towards them all day and night.
McDonald’s has been one of the main targets of the authorities in the issue of child obesity. Because of their children-focused advertisements and less healthy food products, they have been on the “hot seat” for several years. One of the biggest attacks they have received was from the documentary “Supersize Me”. To counter the bad publicity, McDonald’s used this opportunity to their advantage by launching a new campaign called “Changes” which featured healthier food choices from their menu including salads, free-range eggshells, fruits, and all-white-meat Chicken Selects. Unfortunately, this opportunity to showcase their ability to serve healthier menu choice wasn’t received very well. And to make matters worse, the fast-food chain continued to be on the defensive side but it did not bring them too much good. Their defensive article towards the documentary has retaliated when the film distributor issued and used the identical-looking ads in newspapers to promote the film instead.
A person is hungry, they need a quick fix, lo and behold they happen to see those bright golden arches not too far in the distance. The person stops, pulls up to the drive through, and the speaker box begins asking them for their order. It’s the sad truth about fast food. The market is chock-full with hungry consumers on extremely tight schedules with “instant gratification” mindsets. One variable, the fast food market never could have predicted was a “healthy American”. Everything is now sorted into increments of one hundred calories conveniently put into separate packages for the new health-conscious men and women of the twenty first century. In the beginning, fast food markets preyed on a booming new market hungry of hamburgers and
I sit down to watch T.V to catch my shows I’ve missed. Once I press the on demand button, the first commercial is McDonald ten pieces chicken nugget with small fries for two dollar and fifty cents. I think to myself I could make a healthy dinner but I feel so tired for school and work. So before I could change in to my pajama, I decided to go to McDonald that a block away. Never thinking of how much calories goes into the meal that I’m about to take in. Fast food is America guilty pressure and because of that American people have become inactive when it comes to cooking. America society of the twenty-first century have gone to the breaking point where they want easy harmless food that cheap instead of eating healthy organic food. Fast food companies are targeting mostly children and students and make millions of dollars in profit. I know this because I’m a students and there are days I just want a burger then salad. Each and every day people choose to eat at fast food restaurants because it quick, especially for people with jobs and are always in a hurry, but many do not know the truth behind these fast food companies and the dangerous effects that happens when we eat fast food a lot. In this Research paper I will explain the reason eating fast food affect a person body, the danger and statistic of obesity in children and how
Fast foods pose a great risk to the society and with the society functioning at a high speed; it has become the preferred food of choice. Fast foods are coming up at a very high rate with their adverts taking over the media. Every corner of the town has a fast food restaurant and in the next block, there is an advert about a fast food restaurant. Obesity is now the largest health concern in the society with children being the hardest hit. Obesity increases the risk of high-fat streak and cholesterol, which will in turn result to cardiovascular diseases (Machowsky, 2013). High-fat content in these fast foods and the reduced physical activities in people’s lives is a recipe for disaster. Fast foods have also been linked with other health conditions with some of them leading to permanent disability and in extreme cases leading to death. It would be good if people to knew the risks associated with fast foods. Some of these risks are;
