Free Time: My Story Of Cynthia Lin

On 05/07/2018 at about 2255 hours, I was dispatched to 113 Frad Ave in reference to a battery that had occurred.

I have had many great mentors that have stood out in my life thus far, but I have one lady that really stands out. Her name is Tina; I know her better as Ms. Hicks. She is a kindergarten teacher and Glee Club director at the middle school I attended. I came to know her really well when I joined the Glee Club my sixth grade year. She is so selfless and always puts others before herself. I just began watching her one day and realized that I wanted to be just like her. I began to volunteer in her classroom the last period of the day because I want to be an elementary school teacher as well. I decided why not learn form the best. As high school freshmen, most kids do not get very excited about walking into their College Preparatory Biology class, but I sure did! Everyday I looked forward to Mrs. Wilson's 3rd period biology lesson because she never disappointed. Mrs. Wilson was a special kind of teacher, she was the type to turn boring lectures into a captivating learning tale and had the gift of making tests enjoyable with her creative illustrations. Yes, you read that right, I enjoyed her tests. One day, Mrs. Wilson presented us with a demanding project; “Okay class, I am challenging you to create the BEST “Bunnimoose.” she announced. As we sat there with puzzled faces, she went further into explanation.

Jane and I grew up in grade school together. She was in the class ahead of me, but her and I were still friends. My father was into politics and involved himself in whatever he could with Jane's dad. Since our fathers were away quite often, we would spend a lot of time together. Since Jane didn't have a mother, my mother would often include Jane in whatever my sisters and I were doing. We would have great talks together talking about what we wanted to do when we grew up. Even though neither one of us knew what we wanted to do, Jane was someone that always had the biggest heart for helping people. She was always talking about the stories her father told her about President Lincoln, and even though she didn't know how, she knew she wanted to be someone to make change like he did.

The person I chose to write about is my sister Quella Jackson. She works as a supervisor at an all female facility called New Life Children’s Center in Canyon Lake, TX.Women account for 22% of people in her position (Employed 2017). Due to the nature of her work, I am not allowed on the campus and the getting a picture would be quite tricky. So while she was preparing food in their kitchen, she decided to FaceTime me and I saw an opportunity to get my picture. This photo is very meaningful to me because first, it was taken on my birthday, and two, I look up to my sister. I chose my sister to photograph because I grew up in a large family and my older sister essentially raised me.

Throughout our lives, we all make sacrifices in order to achieve our goals or to help others achieve their goals. For some, this may mean sacrificing friendships or family time, or for others it may mean sacrificing money and other dreams which may also be of great importance to us. A person who has made many sacrifices in order to achieve their aspirations or goals is someone with strength, determination and masses of will-power, and it is someone who is not prepared to give up on their dream.

When I was in my sophomore year of high school, I had a music teacher named Ms. Valentine who taught vocal and piano classes. Ms. Valentine was known as the “mean dad” of the vocal department, because she oddly reminded everyone of a dad instead of a mother, I know it’s weird. She never took the phrase I can’t from a student, and she would never put up with anyone’s bullshit. She believed there was no such thing as “I can’t”. I had the pleasure of having Ms. Valentine as my choir director, sadly. Ms. Valentine was known for assigning students to critique boring plays and concerts.

Sharon Chapain began her first two years of college at the University of Florida, where she pursued different career paths. At her father’s request she enrolled in some computer courses, where the first class in the course was a programming class. In this class Sharon felt completely out of her element, for most of the students in this class had been pursuing and working with computers their whole life. Sharon didn’t feel that this class was where she was meant to go in her career. She subdued the computer courses and focused on the basics.

“Hey, terrorist,” a boy called out to me from across the classroom, drawing laughter from his friends. I pretended not to hear and stared into my book. It was a typical day in my life growing up as a first-generation American attending public school in a poor Bronx neighborhood. Being one of the few Indian kids there, I was relentlessly picked on. My school was desperately underfunded where teachers often spent their own money on supplies.

Lauren and the others in her group are in a new situation; they have to survive out of the walls. Lauren said, "Everyone who's surviving out here knows things that I need to know... I'll watch them, I'll listen to them, and I'll learn from them. If I don't, I'll be killed. And like I said, I intend to survive" (Butler 173). She's always focused on adapting to new situations - but one key to that is learning from others and bringing a group together to support each other.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Ms. Yvonne Dill who attended UIC (University in Chicago) at the age of 16, which she is extremely proud to say. “I loved it because it was close to my home, and although I was close, I was still able to be independent and live on my own. I did graduate from that school in 4 years.” I am also close to home and I enjoy my independence as well. The only difference between she and I is the fact that I did not attend college at age 16. During her first few weeks as a freshman she admits, “I was not nervous, and I felt as if I was where I belonged. I adjusted very easily, and quickly. Three of my cousins (all two years older than me, two of which are twins) also attended the school, which made the transition very

Andrea Reed was an amazing speaker. Not only did she just have a great energy in general and you can tell she has a passion for the job, but it wasn’t just a sales pitch to be crime scene. It seems like when speaker in other classes come in and talk about their job they just want to tell you the good aspects like a sales representative or a military recruiter. Andrea told us the most amazing parts of the job and also the darkest. I have an advantage because of my job and I get to see the good and the bad already and I know I can handle it, however a lot of people don’t get the same experience during an internship or at all so they get really far and realize there are some things they just can’t deal with, which is okay. Later that night Rudy and gotten hold of Glendora Dick and we rendezvoused in the San Gabriel Valley town of Pasadena outside of Los Angeles a halfway point from both parties. Dick drove up in a fire engine red Porsche 911 Turbo and introduced himself. We decided to drive up in the hills will park overlooking the city that would be quiet for a meeting. Danny took out some pot and I rolled us joints to start the negotiations with. I mapped out our plan and the discussions went well enough for us to start dealing. Dick took out some blow and we tested on the hood of his Porsche and it was outstanding. Dick’s partner was his brother and his friends that live North of San Diego and had a boat that they made runs down the Mexican Baja coast to meet

Mrs. Lee requires a vital sign check, and ongoing monitoring, this includes a blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature, pulse (palpated bilaterally), and oxygen saturation. Mrs. Lee should be on continuous cardiac monitoring (Bowes et al., 2016).

I really had a wonderful interview with Ms. Yang. Aside from the questions that were provided by my instructor, I asked approximately twenty-five more that I wrote. She answered these questions thoroughly and with extreme honesty. She is very knowledgeable in the field that she is in and displays the confidence in her work that I want to have for myself. She provided me with so much information that I had approximately five pages of notes. I really wanted to emphasize to her that I did not have much experience in the communication field. However, she re-assured me that everything would be just fine, but that I would need to start working on building a portfolio as soon as possible. She gave me a range of advice, stemming from where to apply
