Introduction Due to the rapid increase in technology development, most organizations use databases as a way of recording and keeping their information. In the past, managers would record and enter data manually to the systems. However, there are some organizations that still rely in gathering information and feeding them manually to the systems while maintaining some soft copies and files that are stored according to each department. Databases are usually designed in a way it can offer organized a good mechanism for storage, and for retrieving information. Consequently, this paper analyzes the fundamentals of the database characteristics and structures, types of medical data records that are relevant to the project being implemented and the importance of uniform terminology, coding and standardization of the data. The paper also analyzes various information standards that are applicable for the project. It sometimes becomes hard for an organization to enter data or information one by one more so when the organization tends to have very large data which needs to be inputted. For example keeping records for patients in hospitals happens to be the most challenge tasks that doctors face. Entering patients information as well as keeping their records is a tiresome job, therefore the best way of doing it much faster is by implementing or developing information systems that will make work easier and quicker (Rob & Coronel, 2002). Fundamentals of database characteristics
* Describe the role of databases and database management systems in managing organizational data and information.
Examination of the types of database systems that are available and how health care facilities utilize these different types of databases is the topic of this report. Giving more detail on the different types of architecture of databases and data structure will follow.
Operational electronic health record systems (EHR) can provide the information necessary on demand, short of troublesome trial and error of probing around physical files. From the first steps of designing the system, the enquiries that will follow are predicted and accommodated. Similar to an office filing system, the appropriateness of a detailed patient record system is often adjudicated by how much time and effort are necessary to locate and recover data. Thus, an intimate cog of the design of an electronic health record system is its efficient process for access, retrieval, and reporting.
Health care providers as well as nurses must keep track of all pertinent patient information and failure to do so leads to detrimental effect on the patient's life. CIS clinical information systems are "large, computerized database management systems that support several types of activities that include physician order entry, result retrieval, documentation and decision support". CIS is intended to replace medical records department of a hospital or any other medical institution. Physicians and clinicians can safely and quickly access information, order medication and treatments and implement appropriate care. CIS will hopefully improve productivity, increase quality care and reduce costs across the organization.
There are two common types of databases used in healthcare, relational and object- oriented database. The relational database stores data in predefined tables and the
The organization is using traditional ways of storing business information that is in papers and registers. The information is growing exponentially and tracking the patient’s information is time consuming. To improve business and to effectively streamline the business hospital needed a database.
It is very important to understand where electronic health record (EHR) is coming from or the fundamental basis of EHR which is clinical information system (CIS). CIS is the platform of EHR which is a computer system that is build in a way so as to enable one to collect and store data so that it is available for different health care professionals to use. This paper will address some of the obstacles and benefits during a CIS implementation.
The system must be easily understood to others who may need access; creating only the records that are necessary, using a sensible and logical naming system, keeping the files and records up to date by sorting them regularly are ways to keep the system productive, simple and efficient. Faster filing and retrieval,
A healthcare database system takes time and precision to produce accurate information. There are important data types that have to be collected to transfer data to correct fields, tables and forms. When building a healthcare database privacy, compliance, and security risks are very important and should be handled appropriately. There also has to be a workflow or downtime procedure in place for a disaster. What is the recovery plan and how does business continue to thrive? All of these things are important as well as others components. As the presentation continues there will be more elaboration on each of the standards that come with a health care data collection database.
With the significantly increasing demand of electrical and civil services of the country resulting from the urbanization of India, VINSUN, an Indian civil engineering company, has expanded rapidly to meet market demand. Due to the growth of the company, VINSUN has experienced problems, such as information overloading and lack of accessibility to data when needed; VINSUN needs a data management system to manage their business information. The existing information management system is not well set up to fulfill VINSUN’s needed. Employees currently save their work on their local computers while VINSUN has unconnected workstations; it requires enormous effort to gather all data needed every time when there is a project. Sunil
Health information management involves the practice of maintaining and taking care of health records in hospitals, health insurance companies and other health institutions, by the use of electronic means (McWay 176). Storage of medical information is carried out by health information management and HIT professionals using information systems that suit the needs of these institutions. This paper answers four major questions concerning health information systems.
Information Management in health care can viewed from many perspectives. By categorizing data we can securely manage health information, some of these categories are Clinical, Demographic, Data, and Financial data, Published Literature, Research Data and Epidemiological Data (Merida L. Johns, Ph.D., Information Management for Health Professions).
Informatics has affected many areas of the medical field. Informatics has improved the field by “helping people to revisualize and redesign their information management and knowledge management skills and learn new ways of using clinical data to mange clinical practice and patient care” (McLane & Turley, 2011). The purpose for this paper is to explore informatics in streamlining paperwork, provide decision support tools, and review contribution that is made towards patient safety.
The use of Information system in the field of health care is growing rapidly as a basic requirement for the health care organizations. Health care information systems (HCIS) is also known as Health care Informatics. The purpose of the paper is to discuss how health care informatics are successfully developed and implemented to improve health care efficiency and effectiveness. The hospitals or the medical institutions today is using the increased power of computer devices for graphics, text and for other data manipulation purposes. The inflexibility of the software applications is a major in health care information systems management. Along with this, the incomplete and inconsistent information due to the diversity of isolated information systems is one of the major problems that information technology is facing in field of the healthcare sector. Therefore, health care information systems help to maintain and store the organization data or information in such a way that they can use to analyze the data for future purpose.
Introduction: A company called Ian’s & Co currently employs a team of IT technicians to manage their IT infrastructure and also support the IT users. Also quite recently the company has taken over a similar but a smaller company which is also employs technical support staff in the same way.
