• Managing Side Effects of Treatment: o Infection may occur in the child receiving treatment. The nurse can assess the child for general malaise, dehydration, seizures and fever to help diagnosis an infection. Labs will also be drawn to help identify the source of infection. Broad spectrum antibiotics are used right away and the child’s temperature is monitored closely. The nurse will educate the parents on keeping the child away from crowds when they are sick and encourage good handwashing. o Bleeding in the child is very common while going through treatment due to lower platelet levels. Avoiding skin puncture’s on the child whenever possible, if a fingerstick needs to be done it must be observed for bleeding afterwards. The child should …show more content…
Different drug therapies are used depending on what form of treatment the child is receiving and if the child has allergies to any drugs. Before chemotherapy begins the child should be given antiemetics 30 minutes to 1 hour prior and regular administration for at least 24 hours after chemotherapy. The goal would be for the child to never experience nausea or vomiting if possible (wong).
• Nursing Care During Bone Marrow Transplantation: o During bone marrow transplants children are in the hospital for extended period. During this time the nurse spends a lot of time with the child and family. The parent’s may be more comfortable talking to the nurse when they have question’s and concerns. o The nurse is responsible for teaching the parent’s and child what will take place prior to the transplant, during and after transplant. The child may be very scared if they are younger to have IV’s, X-rays, CT scans, MRI’s and blood draws. The nurse should do the best to keep them informed of what is going on and how long procedures take. For the infant or younger children, many facilities may choose to give them some sedation, so the procedure isn’t scary.
• Pain Management o When managing the childs pain during cancer treatment the nurse must work with an interdisciplinary team involving many different experts to come up with the best possible pain management plan for the child. The nurse would be the one to carry this plan out in the child’s care. Knowing what opioid’s, nonopioids, NSAIDS, acetaminophen with codeine, oxycodone, and morphine to give during different times is crucial. The nurse must also know the side effects of these medication and monitor the child closely.

As I was shadowing the nurse, I felt that clinical nurse’s responsibility and duties are quite different from hospital nurse responsibility and duties. Most of the services that are preform to patients in the hospital are not done in the clinic setting. There are some circumstance that nurses might have to perform some medical treatment to patient in the clinic, such as injection or wound, but it’s very
It’s the nurse's duty to advocate for her patient and to make sure that the patient understands and ask questions if necessary.
Nurses interact with families in a variety of community-based and clinical settings. The family nursing process is the same, regardless of the setting or whether the focus is on the family as a whole or on an individual in that family (Crisp & Taylor 2005). In the case of a 3 year old girl just diagnosed with leukaemia, it is important for a nurse to critically analyse the situation and address any immediate concerns. The nurse must address any professional issues that may arise and any potential impacts of hospitalisation that may affect the child and the family. Also provide support and education to reassure and comfort them. The primary concern for paediatric nurses is the welfare of the child and the family (Crisp & Taylor 2005).
Pediatric nurses do a lot of the same tasks as a regular nurse. They draw blood, check vital signs, can perform physical examinations, and order diagnostic tests. However, the job of a pediatric nurse goes beyond regular nurses. They must have a caring relationship
The nurse had been in the nursing profession for fifteen years and working on the NICU Unit for five years. She was of Caucasian background and a single mother of two young children. She first met the patient when she was admitted with complication during the sixth month of her pregnancy. The nurse had extensive training and experience working in the paediatric unit of the hospital where she was employed. Caring for children is her passion since she lost her first child due to birth complications and raised her two children alone while putting herself through university.
The nurse must initially evaluate the patient’s charts for any bacterial precautions and fall risks. As the nurse walks into the patient’s room, the nurse begins by making sure the environment is clean and safe. The nurse would do this by gathering equipment, washing hands thoroughly, and wear gloves. The nurse is then to greet the patient, introducing self, then let them know exactly what you came to do. The nurse should first ask the patient for his or her name, birthdate, location of where the patient is currently at, and the reason as to what
They must always maintain privacy and confidentiality in a nurse/child relationship. They should also differentiate between normal and abnormal physical findings and serve a child advocate. Nurses must also participate in activities to help manage the child’s pain and analyze any situations to anticipate pathophysiological problems and detect any changes in the status. Pediatric nurses may also administer medication while using an age- appropriate guidelines and determine the child’s needs related to pain management. One of the last general tasks is, that a nurse must evaluate a child for signs and symptoms of abuse and provide as much supportive care as possible to dying children.

This is very convenient for each province to control the sale and revenue. People wondering why it has to be different provincial liquor boards but not just one and apply to every provinces and territories. The answer is to keep the market under control for each and every province in order to maximize revenue, making it easy to keep track of the sale and consumption through their own network of retail stores.
As a school nurse in an urban middle school setting conducting a study to test the effect of a coaching intervention for students with Type 1 Diabetes, I would first need to formulate my PICO question. In this case it would be “In middle school students with Type 1 Diabetes, what is the effectiveness of coaching intervention on student understanding?” Type 1 diabetes is a chronic condition which usually occurs during childhood or adolescence due to genetics and exposure to certain viruses (Mayoclinic.org, 2016).
Throughout this problem set I will analyze the effects of compound interest. I will start with problem one assessing as to whether or not a Private in my platoon can afford a brand new vehicle. I will develop a discrete dynamical system to calculate the amount of capital left in the loan at any given month. To assess if my discrete dynamical function is accurate I will interpret my model through graphs and make sure the answer is logical. I will find out how much my soldier can afford and any other question asked. If this does not coincide with the amount the actual payment will be I will give him another recommendation.
In the professional setting, knowing the patient through his or her diagnosis, name, history of present illness, laboratory results or reason for staying in the hospital only contributes to the manner of physical care of the patient. However, recognizing the patient 's spiritual needs such as emotional support, mental positivity, and intellectual understanding of his or her situation gives a better assessment, as well as a trusting relationship between the nurse and the patient, as per personal experience. In the ward, it is evident that most of the staff nurses spend their time doing documentations, preparing medications, following-up laboratory requests, as well as reading through the patients ' charts to affirm the physician 's order. Throughout the duration of our shifts as student nurses, I see that the most that the staff nurses get to be conversant with the patient is when certain procedures (such as feeding through nasogastric tube, taking
To carry out patient care, an appropriate nursing diagnosis is developed based on the child’s assessment.
Request laboratory tests: Blood tests are used to determine if the child has an infection and what type of infection it is.
Renal transplant nurses help patients cope more effectively in the post-transplant period and make them feel more positive about their health and what they can achieve. Transplant recipients who experienced a larger number of symptoms were more negative about their health and reported that their physical and mental health-related quality of life was lower
