Green Lake County Board Meeting

The information from our meeting was provided to our leadership team via email. This was the responsibility of the team, along with the minutes (chart minutes 1F) from the meeting. See email 1E.

Minutes of meetings have the agenda, who has attended, absences and apologises then there will be the content of what was said in the meeting.

When evaluating practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities, it is necessary that Competency 2: Ethical Practice and Competency 3: Critical Thinking are taken into consideration. Competency 2 requires that social workers are able to recognize and manage personal values in a way that allows professional values to guide practice. Competency 3 requires social workers to demonstrate effective oral and written communication in working with individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations, and colleagues. By following these competency skills, a social worker is able to evaluate their experience with these different populations without being bias, and can display diversity within the profession of social work.

Meetings management involves a variety of different activities. Before a meeting has begun the office administrator should make sure that he/she has booked a room for the meeting and that it is in accessible location so that it allows access for anyone who is disabled and it complies with all current government legislation. The secretary should make sure that all the equipment is already set up in the room and check it is in good working order. For example: a computer and a projector if there are going to be presentations of any kind. There should also be sufficient refreshment available. An agenda which contain: Apologies, minutes of the previous meeting, matters arising, any other business and the date of the next meeting. This is sent to all attendees of the meetings in advance so they know what is being discussed.*

The Hallsville Independent School District board meeting was very conductive. An agenda was handed out to everyone present, and it had every point to be made at the meeting neat and organized for everyone to follow. The meeting is mostly open to the public which provides a great way for everyone to feel up to date with what is going on in the school district, and be able to help in any way they can when problems arise. Once the superintendent had finished speaking about who was being recognized, the updated itinerary, and the HISD Education Foundation Report, he closed the meeting from the public. School board meetings benefit the community by letting the people not associated with a job through the school know what is going on in the district.

All of the city commissioners were present for the meeting, they include: Todd Neville, Nancy Sikes-Kline, Leanna Freeman, Mayor, Nancy Shaver, and Vice Mayor, Roxanne Horvath. At the meeting just about every type of group was represented, city residents of St. Augustine, business owners, special interested groups, in particular the Clean Up the City of St. Augustine initiative represented by Ed Salvin, and even a local Neighborhood Association represented by its president Susan Rathbone was present. Almost all of the individuals I mentioned attended the meeting to voice their belief that there should be an increase in the budget for improvement of local roads.

On November 13th there was a Raymore City Council meeting held at the City Hall. The meeting was well organized and went over various topics such as the water bill change, more street lights, work areas being painted, and there was discussion of Christmas lights being added onto the City Hall in spirit of the holidays.

Many items on the agenda were routine for the meeting, but I did not realize how much paperwork, reports, applications, and other forms were involved in a single meeting. This meeting addressed the instruction report, superintendent report, school nutrition report, fundraisers, field trips, and grant applications. The amount of work that goes into getting approval from the board is tedious for a district so large.
