Group Goals
As stated previously, the main purpose of this group is to teach the girls about self-image and aid them in developing strategies to deal with negative self-image issues in the future.
1. The girls will understand and develop an improved sense of self-esteem.
2. The girls will develop strategies to cope with possible future negative self- image challenges.
3. The girls will identify positive attributes within their selves.
Throughout this process, I will use several strategies such as role playing to enhance their experience and explore their feelings in the here-and-now process. Also, every group we will begin by discussing unresolved issues from previous group sessions. After unresolved issues, we will focus on the content

I will discuss what I will do as a group leader and what is expected of them as members. I will also let group members know that this is a positive group environment and we are here to lift each other up and not tear each other down. We will also discuss self-esteem and why it is important to have a positive self-image perception. The next session will be spent explaining the Invisible Self Model of Wellness to the girls. I will show them the diagram while explaining the different components of the model. The IS model is intended for the development of wellness programs to facilitate positive growth and change across the life span (Myers, Sweeney, & Witmer, 2000). Exploring and examining this model will help the girls realize that an improved sense of self-esteem will affect different aspects of their life. The next few sessions will focus on identifying positive attributes within themselves. Using the wellness wheel, they will identify strengths in different aspects of their life. They will develop strategies on using their strengths to overcome the weaker factors on their wellness wheels. We will also discuss self-doubt and how it can affect our self-esteem. We will discuss negative
Depression is when an individual has feelings of hopelessness and has very little energy to accomplish tasks; many people have tremendous trouble sustaining an interest in life. In today’s culture, girls have become more depressed in adolescence compared to boys (Stice and Bearman). One of the major influences on why girls are frequently more depressed than boys, is that girls struggle to obtain the perfect body in their own eyes. Findings show that, compared to teen boys, teen girls have higher body shame. Fifty-three percent of adolescent girls reported being dissatisfied with their body after the study (Knauss). Low-self esteem, combined with depression, can potentially be very dangerous for young women.
Next, the barriers that exist in group communication are premature evaluation of ideas, poor physical surroundings, too many people, poor timing, and stinking thinking. The different ideas made from the group need an evaluation at a certain time; this is done only after all the ideas have been made from the group. Poor physical surroundings can be a problem for group disruption in communication. In some cases the room could be too hot, too cold, too noisy, not adequate enough seating and lack of technological needs for the group to function. If the group is too large then the communication can be lost and equal participation will not occur (Beebe &Masterson, 2006). Poor timing also can be a hindrance to the group by not

The purpose of this paper is to explain my definition of Intellectual, emotional, social and physical wellness. Also the purpose is to set certain goals for myself so I have a standard that I can attain to.
Have you ever wondered what got the Beatles or ACDC so far in their career? They were in a group and that benefited them in multiple ways just like group projects benefit us in the classroom. I think that having group projects benefits us and our whole entire learning atmosphere in a positive way. Group project and activities benefit us by giving a more positive and less tense environment for learning, they help us learn social skills when we work together with other people in our groups and finally group projects let us take enjoyment in what we are doing our project on and we can have a better experience while participating in this project. I like group projects and I think we should have more of them in and out of the classroom.
“Self-esteem refers to the regard in which an individual holds himself or herself, and it enhances resilience by motivating behavior” (Gecas 1982; Rosenberg [1965] 1989). Self-esteem effects teens, especially girls in many ways. Some girls have
Groupthink is a phenomenon throughout history that has led to disastrous results. The Oxford Dictionary defines groupthink as “The practice of thinking or making decisions as a group in a way that discourages creativity or individual responsibility:” In this paper, I will illustrate three examples in history that highlight the negative effects of groupthink. William H. Whyte originally came up with groupthink terminology and then in the 1970’s Irving Janis followed up with more research on the subject. Janis identified three groupthink warnings. They are directive leadership, group homogeneity, and group isolation.

Our group facilitation was on the subject of time management with regards to completing most important tasks first and devoting time to those specific tasks. Our goals for the group were to create an inclusive, encouraging, and positive environment between group members. My partner and I researched ideas for information that we could use to share as well as use our experience’s with the topic amongst the group. The duration of our group facilitation was ten minutes. As we reflect on the events coming to and during the facilitation we will discourse the inclusion between group members, linking members to discussion and group as well as the process of our facilitation.
The purpose of this memo is to provide an overview of the work our team will perform in order to study collective leadership practices of three social change organizations. The arena of social change we are exploring is the empowerment of marginalized people through skill and capacity building and other self-sufficiency strategies. We chose this area of inquiry because, at its core, it aims to build self-efficacy, which is the foundation to true social change.
This article discusses the findings of a study that examined the effectiveness of the Girls' Circle a support group for adolescent girls. The Girls’ circle addresses the needs of girls by focusing on increasing connections, building empathic skills, and developing their ability to overcome obstacles. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the Girls' Circle intervention on improving “social support, body image, locus of control, self-efficacy, and self-esteem”. The study was done using 63 girls from 9 of their support groups throughout the Unites States between the ages of 10-17. The groups consisted of 5 to 15 girls each who completed several scales and surveys that included “the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, the Body
There are two recommendations that I would offer to make our negotiating task group better. Firstly, I would recommend having two sessions to complete the task instead of one. "Time is a specialized aspect of structure. The importance of time to effective group work practice needs to be underscored" (Mesbur, 2002). Time would address the fatigue that members experienced after working for so many hours without a break. My second recommendation would be to provide healthily food and beverage options for members to snack on throughout their time in the task group. People were starting to feel sick after going long periods of time without eating or drinking. I understand that once the group got started and we were making progress, we did not want
The ultimate goal of this project is to inform women about the importance of self-esteem and strengthen self-worth that empowers women all over the
After completing this survey, I’ve analyze being in a group requires a lot of traits pertaining to your group chemistry. My results demonstrated thst I am more team oriented and I am open to group decision whether agree completely or disagree completely but I remain to an open mind. One of my extremely important compentency were “strong group goal”. This compentnecy is maybe my strongest opinion because being in a group, you need a goal. Every individual in that group needs a goal to accomplish to make the group operate harmoniously and the group leader need to assign those task to make every individual perform at peak performance. After adding my results up, my results ended up being 191. I know in the future, I will need to improve in certain
Dove’s Self Esteem project was made for young girls because more young girls struggle with having low self-esteem between the ages of seven to seventeen than most people realize. Not having good self-esteem takes a toll on young girls and causes them to miss out on many opportunities while growing up. Dove stated “six in ten girls avoid participating in fundamental life activities because of concerns about the way they look”. I found this very
