One of the founders of humanistic psychology, Abraham Maslow, often pondered over why he did not go insane. Maslow, like any great psychologist, questioned what made him stand apart from others – I relate strongly to this.
This statement laid the groundwork for my present interest in psychology. My sister, 10 years elder than I, is a heroin addict. As a psychology major, I fully understand drug addiction to be an illness. Furthermore, I also understand how many aspects came together to pre-kindle my sister for this life of hardship. However as a little sister, such a concept is mind-altering to say the least.
Abreast my share of family drama, and adolescent hardships, I found a place that I thrive. I have realized over the years that I was

Shadowing healthcare workers in both private, and public institutions gave me a greater global perspective on outward policy differences. Involvement in this trip has given me the ability to relate to perspectives on ethnic minorities, and chronically ill populations. This experience is further highlighted by my work with minorities as an undergraduate RA. During my time as a RA, we would frequent downtown Harrisburg to analyze the populations in under privileged communities. These recent endeavors lead me to realize that I want to help those who cannot help themselves, much like my sister. Furthermore, solidifying my interest in working in the healthcare industry.
While I became more knowledgeable about psychological processes, I realize that I have barely scratched the surface of my psychological undertaking, which is why I hope to pursue further education at Chestnut Hill. My future career aspirations are not yet set in stone, but I hope to eventually enroll in a Psy.D program at Chestnut Hill after completing my masters. This will allow me to give back to the community, like those who gave so selflessly onto me, as well as, break through my current educational constraints starting within the walls of Chestnut

LEADER’S EFFECTIVENESS USING UTILITARIANISM AS THE ETHICAL DECISION-MAKING APPROACH IN REGARD TO THE HEALTHCARE CHALLENGES SET FORTH BY THE PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT OF 2010
1. What does Sue need to know about herself to determine how she will make decisions about providing care for indigent persons?
Under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, underwriting will effectively disappear. Enrollee demographics and medical history can no longer be used to calculate premiums. Two exceptions allow for rate variation based on age and smoking, although even in those cases the degree of variation is legally capped. Without the ability to use underwriting for risk selection or assigning premiums, insurers will have to find new ways to compete. Premiums will no longer reflect the underlying risks, and rate variation will cease to be a meaningful tool in competing for a healthy insured population.
It is important to understand as the years pass by and the time is changing, the world of healthcare is changing as well, especially in terms of healthcare reform. One major change in healthcare reform was a course of action that required healthcare organizations to submit mandatory data on the quality care of their patients. This plan was initiated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid in 2015, in which they implemented the Medicare Access and CHIP Re-authorization Act (MACRA). This act modernized how Medicare payments are tied to quality and cost of care (EClinical, n.d.). MACRA initially focused on Meaningful Use (MU), PQRS and Valued-Based Modifiers (VBMs). In fact, when it came time to report quality data, if an organization did
You’re going to hear me say this statement many times throughout this book: I do not like politics. American politics is messy, hateful, and leads to endless confusion. Unfortunately, the political fray has a large effect on our day-to-day lives, so all I want to give readers is a layman’s understanding of what goes on in Washington. So while Manuel was spreading the gospel of O, the battle stateside for US healthcare reform had begun. Promptly after being inaugurated, President Barrack Obama addressed a joint session of congress detailing his intention to pursue healthcare reform. After a few months of planning, the Obama administration came out in favor of a public option in June of 2009 (Levy). A public option is an insurance plan offered

Westmount Nursing Inc. is a for profit chain with seven different nursing homes. It has a grown from a small few bed facility to a facility with 4 different divisions that made to help make seniors more independent. The Westmount Nursing Homes were in search for a chief executive officer and president, which was filled by Shirley Carpenter. After Shirley Carpenter came on to the company, many changes were made and implemented. Some implementations were successfully, but she was also challenged with many problems with the Union Federation of Nurses and the Board of directors regarding wages and total quality management implementation. My recommendation would be for Shirley to stop the implementation of total quality management and focus on
The underserved communities in the United States are victimized and discriminated against when it comes to the provision of proper medical health care majorly because of their ethnicity and immigrant statuses. Individuals from these communities often live in marginalized areas where health care is not easily accessible because of poor infrastructure. In addition, most of the immigrants and the marginalized minority groups that include Latino’s and African Americans are uninsured making access to proper medical services impossible. Nonetheless, the Nurse Corps has been at the center of providing care to the underserved communities by meeting their medical and non-medical needs. Given the opportunity to serve as a member of the distinguished Nurse Corps, I will find ways to interact and connect with my patients so that I am able to fully understand their backgrounds and hence initiate the proper treatment.

Administering medication to students is an important policy that each division needs to have. This policy affects school nurses, students, teachers, administration, and parents. Although many of the guidelines were used as recommended by the Virginia School Health Guidelines there are some critical points that have been overlooked.
