The Democratic and Republican Party primaries are over. America is left with two main candidates to choose from in the upcoming U.S. presidential election this coming November: Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. As of right now, both candidates are still considered “presumptive” in their respective parties until each party holds their national convention and officially nominates them. Barring a Hillary Clinton indictment, one of those two will become the next president of the United States.
Gary Johnson, the Libertarian party presidential candidate, will not be elected as the next president. An “independent” candidate, nominated by the self-proclaimed anti-Trump conservatives, will not be elected as the next president. Nominating an anti-Trump

has a major problem with illegal immigration. The reason the U.S. has a problem with illegal immigration is because we have an administration and political party that allows it. The liberal argument is that illegal immigrants contribute so much to our economy. But the truth is illegal immigrants take more than they contribute. According to a study conducted by Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), in 2013, illegal immigrants cost U.S. tax payers $113 billion while only contributing $1.27 billion. The majority of the $1.27 billion was in sales taxes from purchasing consumer products. $84 billion of the $112 was from state and local tax dollars. The study used examples of how different states are operating at a fiscal deficit compared to how much illegal immigrants were costing the state. One example is California. “California, facing a budget deficit of $14.4 billion in 2010-2011, is hit with an estimated $21.8 billion in annual expenditures on illegal aliens.” On top of the tax and other financial burden, illegal immigrants are taking away blue collar and unskilled jobs from Americans, leaving many American workers unemployed. Donald Trump plans to stop illegal immigration by deporting illegal aliens and building a wall on the U.S-Mexican border that Mexico will pay for. Once again, this is not racist. It may be unfair to the illegal immigrants, but it is not racist because of the enormous financial impact illegal immigrants has on
People such as Donald Trump don’t realize the immense affect deporting people will have on the economy. According to an article called, “Trump’s new deportation rules could cost the economy trillions” by Bryce Covert, there is estimated to be 12 million immigrants in the US. Seven out of twelve million are workers who contribute 3 percent of the GDP. In other words 3 percent of the GDP is equal to $5 trillion in economic growth over a ten year period. Deporting all immigrants will cost an estimated price of $4.7 trillion. According to a research from Ryan Edwards and Francesc Ortega at the Center for American Progress, without undocumented workers, the GDP (gross domestic product) could potentially reduce by 2.6 percent in about a decade. In regards to deportations, the government would have to hire 15,000 more border patrol agents and build new detention centers. Let’s not disregard the fact that Mr. Trump also wants to construct a bigger wall which will cost billions of dollars. Considering that the US
But amazingly, the flow of foreign-born is so large that immigrants currently account for a larger share of labor force growth than natives (“U.S. Immigration and Economic Growth: Putting Policy on Hold”, 2003) When you do the math, it makes a good deal of sense to spend the little that we do—if not more—to keep them healthy (Karvounis, 2007). Care for undocumented immigrants represents a tiny fraction of the nation’s health care burden. They receive minimal care; some pay taxes. Between one half and three quarters of undocumented immigrants pay taxes and some work “off the books” jobs as well (What Immigration Reform Could Mean To The US Economy, 2009). Illegal aliens provide as much as 7 billion dollars a year to the Social Security Fund although they cannot claim benefits for this program (Immigrants’ Economic Contribution, 2009). Further still, undocumented workers pay sales taxes where applicable and property taxes—directly if they own and indirectly if they rent (“Undocumented Immigrants as Taxpayers”, 2007).
The famous billionaire and real-estate developer Donald Trump announced his running on the Republican ticket for the 2016 presidential elections on June 16, 2015. Currently in the race, Trump is leading the Republican polls with sixty-seven delegates on board. Ted Cruz is falling in second with only eleven delegates. Seventy-four percent of voters believe that Trump will be nominated as the Republican candidate. About twenty-three percent of voters believe that he will be elected as the next 2016 president. Donald Trump’s success has followed him from the beginning.
The U.S economy is constantly changing due to many factors, and immigration happens to be one of them. For so long, many people have had opposing viewpoints of how immigrants that are coming into the United States are affecting the economy. Some people believe that immigrants make up a big percentage of the United States’ economy meanwhile, others believe that they just take space away from public services such as schools, hospitals, and jails. Art Thompson and Arian Campo-Flores are both publishers who wrote about the controversy of immigration changing the economy. Publisher Arian Campo-Flores, in his article “Why Americans Think (Wrongly) That Illegal Immigrants Hurt the Economy” published in 2010 by The Daily Beast argues that illegal immigrants are not hurting the economy instead, they are helping it by providing cheap labor, replenishing the lost funds that retiring Americans will create and are contributing to properties and to taxes. In an opposing viewpoint, Art Thompson in his article, “Real Solutions for the Economy: Stop
In the 2016 Presidential Election many people, especially young adults, are not happy with the candidates chosen from either the Republican and Democratic side. For the Republicans Donald Trump was chosen, and from the Democratic side Secretary Hillary Clinton was chosen. From the third party former governor Gary Johnson, Jill Stein, and Darrell Castle were all chosen. As the election comes closer more people are starting to panic over who could become the next President of the united States. Senior Kaitlyn Hill explains why she thinks this election is not looking good.
The idea of illegal immigrants has been tarnished by the media. The first thought that pops in to our minds when the topic of illegal immigrants has been brought up is the fact that these people take all the jobs and depress the economy of a country. They have always carried with them a negative connotation, especially in countries like America. This conservative view of illegal immigration has hijacked the minds of many. This conservative view is what prevents any sort of reform that helps the illegal immigrants in the United States of America. We are instilled with the idea that they corrupt our economy and must be banished. But, this point of view is absurd. We are looking at this issue with one eye open. The presence of illegal immigrants in an economically developed country actually improves the economy of the country; therefore, no action must be taken to expel them. This may be a point of view rarely witnessed in the world. But there are many mathematical and theoretical proofs that claim the above statement a certainty.
When you think of America a lot of people would instantly think of a togetherness or liberty and pride. Why is that now a thing we sometimes can’t do in today’s society? I think because America is sometimes scared of the unknown. We stick to the rules and bear no more than necessary. This leads us to a very popular topic of 2017 since the election of Donald Trump. Illegal Immigration. It’s thrived in the most recent years to high impossible numbers. To really understand it all, I’m going to get every aspect of immigration to get fully behind the scene. I feel very mutual on this topic, nor agreeing or disagreeing. But to jump right into it, I want to start with how it affects our country financially. There are right now 12.5 million illegal immigrants in the United States which then leads to a tax burden of approximately 8,075 dollars per member. That right there sounds crazy. We put ourselves more and more into debt. I think Trumps view especially with him being a business man, he knew the tax burden was ridiculous in every way possible. I think it needed a change. Who knows the long-term effects it would have on us as a country in 5 to 10, how much more debt can we really take. In all reality, it cost us 135 billon dollars to support illegal immigrants. I’m not saying it’s for a bad cause but I think to come into this country it has to be easier than sneaking through a border or just inviting yourself in. As anyone would want to feel safe in their country, know they have security in their jobs, money and their taxes are going to benefit the country. Another note is that illegal immigrants do get treated differently when being taxed. It’s said they pretty much get bypassed on paying any income tax at all. So, they are already ahead of the game because you weren’t born in America. I think that’s very double standard. American Born citizens have no choice but to pay our taxes. I just think they need to be treated equally as us if they are going to be in our country. (Matt O'Brien) That leads a little bit into the next point I want to show, I want to show how immigrants are treated in other countries. Show why we should have more laws, we seem to be the only country that is freely open to
Another topic of discussing is immigration. Immigration is something that is probably never going to go away. Some of the immigrants here today are the main reasons we have what we have today. Immigrants have been over here for some their entire life. Because immigration is so common today, many people overlook it because of the normality of it. Hillary Clinton’s views on immigration differs completely from Donald Trump. Clinton stated that she thinks it is okay for immigrants to live here in the United States if they have not committed a crime. Hillary Clinton also stated that they could stay if they agreed to learn English, pay taxes and also pay a fine to the government. I see nothing wrong with immigrants wanting to live in America if
There are two immense concerns for the people opposing immigration, which are American tax-payers providing for immigrants and immigrants ransacking all of the citizens’ jobs, however, the evidence demonstrates otherwise. The widespread sense of immigrants being free-loaders, results from a lack of knowledge about their role in the economy, specifically when they pay taxes. According to Nicholson in, The Facts on Immigration Today, “unauthorized immigrants pay an estimated $11.7 billion a year in state and local taxes” (2). Though they do not directly pay taxes, on the account of them not being citizens, they do so through buying commodities in certain states. The money collected is utilized to allocate the benefits they also use, such as safety
Illegal immigration causes nothing but problems for America and for Americans. Illegal immigrants undercut American workers for jobs. In many states they are eligible for various forms of public assistance despite not paying taxes, and this happens even in conservative states like Texas and Arizona (Ferrari, 2011). A patchwork of state laws is not going to address this issue adequately, but merely push the problem around the country from one state to another. Reform is needed at the federal level, as this is a problem that affects all states and all
We are down to the wire as far as Republican, Donald Trump, and Democrat, Hillary Clinton, running for the Presidency of the United States. I will vote for Hillary Clinton, not only because she is the Democrat nominee but she has been in the political arena for years, she is a veteran on foreign policies, she know what the position for the US President entails. Hillary Clinton will also be making history as the first woman President of the United States of America. Ms. Clinton has gotten a lot of bad media exposure and Mr. Trump has gotten even more. Mr. Trump is known for “sticking his foot in his mouth” by saying things without thinking. He seem to have no regard for other religion, race, or people that don’t agree with him on an issue. I
When he began his campaign for President, Donald Trump might have seemed like the possibility of a nightmare you would never experience. But with Ted Cruz withdrawing from the race, and Bernie Sanders( who polls cited as having the greatest chance against Trump in the General Election) far behind Hillary Clinton, we must now seriously accept the fact that Donald Trump may very well have a fighting chance to become the next President of the United States.
Now imagine the United States without any illegal immigrants or even without any Mexican to do labor work to boost the economy. This country economy is insignificant without Mexican laborers. The Republican upcoming candidate Mr. Trump argue in the GOP debate that “he will deport all illegal immigrants in the USA when elected as US president”. Not only I view that as a xenophobic comment, it is also racist to make such comment. When all illegal immigrants are deported, first of all the US economy will be in jeopardy because there will be nobody to work to raise it up and secondly the money the US government will use to deport all unauthorized immigrants can be used to introduce new programs or fund the deferred action program institute that was further enforce by President Obama. President Obama deferred allows all undocumented immigrants who has been in the nation for 5 years to be qualify as a legal citizens. It also gives chances for children born in the USA by illegal immigrant to become automatically citizens by birth. Many businesses are against the fact that illegal immigrants will be deported because they work for less the minimum
With the upcoming presidential election, there are many candidates seeking America’s vote. Among these candidates are Senator Bernie Sanders and businessman Donald Trump. Sanders is seeking the Democratic nomination, while Trump is seeking the Republican. These two front-runners stand out as being rather unconventional, each in their own respect. Sanders has an independent background and is gaining popularity with his democratic-socialist ideas. Whereas Trump is sparking controversy with his outlandish views and personal attacks on other candidates. Both men are popular contenders backed by passionate supporters. But if the election comes down to Sanders and Trump, which candidate will make the better President?
At the conclusion of President Barack Obama’s historical consecutive terms in office there is going to be a large number of candidates that are vying for the nominations of the respective parties. Due to the constitutional term limits imposed on the President, Obama is barred to seek re-election in 2016. While there are about 10 candidates running for the republicans, there are only two still in the running for the Democratic Party. The way candidates are recognized by their respective parties to become a candidate for the United States Presidency is first by receiving an invitation to compete in the primaries, then being included in the nationwide polls, as well as being on the ballot for at least 75% of all states. At the conclusion of the February 1st caucus there were 3 Democrats and 10 republicans who were still in the Presidential race, since then one Democratic candidate had dropped out.
