Hofstra Application Essay

One of many goals im trying to achieve is becoming a player on the Cosby Jv Softball Team . Reaching this goal has required me to practice everyday for tryouts. It’s been known that Cosby has a really good sports program that I would like to be apart of. Some reasons why I want to be on this team is because it will make me more involved in school , make me a better softball player , and give me the chance to make new friends.

During this stressful season of college applications, I feel that I have an advantage over my classmates. The majority are terrified, searching desperately for a school for them. I, however, am calm. I have been a Hokie fan for my entire life, and dreamed of attending the university for nearly that long. My family is constantly traveling to Blacksburg to cheer on the football team or to enjoy the local food, and I know that nothing would make my mother prouder than seeing me graduate from her alma mater one day. Even if I had no prior connection to Virginia Tech, I would have eventually decided it was the right place for me. It has a beautiful campus full of innovative and wonderfully diverse students. Hofstra websites states that 1,647 enrolled at Hofstra in the class of 2020 alone. With Hofstra being a large University I was frightened that I feel alone. But with the average undergraduate class size being as small as 21 students. As well as 200 student clubs and hundreds of social, academic and cultural events every year. With this information I anticipate that loneliness will be the last emotion I will feel at Hofstra University. Located in Northern California, near Palo Alto, Stanford University is a medium sized, private university with 16,000 students. It is often referred to as the “Ivy League of the West.” As the most selective college in the United States, Stanford accepts only 4.8% of the approximately 44,000 applicants, carefully selecting applicants that have the potential to be leaders in the future. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy (US President), Larry Page & Sergey Brin (co-founders of Google), and Elon Musk (Entrepreneur - best known for Tesla motors) are well known alumni of Stanford who have become extremely successful in their respective fields. When applying to Stanford one should consider the admissions criteria, tuition, and academic majors. Also, it is important to have academic support, understand the college’s demographics, and familiarize oneself with campus life.

I am also applying to Hofstra because the location of the campus is close to home and close to the endless opportunities of New York City. I am truthfully one of the most school spirited students at Bethpage; Whatever team is playing I am always there to cheer them on especially when it comes to giving my fellow teammates pep talks before racing in our track meets. I will continue this spirit at Hofstra and continue to attend my favorite college sports games, the Hofstra Pride Men’s Basketball games. As a young girl, my mom and I would make 16-hour road trips down to Virginia Tech to visit my sister, who was studying aerospace engineering. Attending Virginia Tech is one of the many reasons why she is who she is today. Not only has Virginia Tech provided my sister with extensive opportunities but VT gives its students the ability to find different companies and internship opportunities in their field of study. I believe that becoming a Hokie will allow me to experience opportunities that other schools cannot relay to most students to reach my goals. Although Virginia Tech has several academic opportunities for their students, they also provide students with a great campus life, giving them the chance to become involved in over 700 different

My list of universities consisted of both familiar and obscure schools. As I was reading through I saw one that caught my attention, Hofstra. I had never heard of it before, but the name was interesting. A simple Google search gave the basics: Hofstra is a relatively small school, located on Long Island not too far from Philadelphia. I end up moving onto stage two. I talked with teachers and people close to me. I went through the list, asking for their opinions. From my list I would tell them Hofstra, and surprisingly most recognized it. Some commented,saying “it is a nice school” and “you would do great there.” The popularity of this school, once unknown to me, was quite shocking.

My plan is to complete my undergraduate degree in Communications/Mass Media, and pursue a career in Public Relations or as a Media Manager. I am applying to Hofstra because I believe this institution will help to set me up for the rest of my career. I believe Hofstra is the university I need to attend in order to receive the best training and experience.

To be honest, Hokie was not my top three school choices. During my summer of my senior year, I was wondering if there is much suitable and better school than the other top choices so I started searching and asking people around. During my search for universities I should apply to, the qualities I concerned myself with was the size and the diversity of the university. I want to go to a college with a small class size so the professors can have the ability to focus on their students while also containing diversity among the students and the campus. These were some of the qualities I found in Hofstra University and are the main reasons I applied.

When my family first moved to the United States from Dubai, my Dad and I explored NYU’s Washington square campus in admiration of how a congested city could hold such a beautiful campus. At that point attending NYU became an aspiration I wanted to fulfill. While preparing my college application, my family was not doing well financially. Therefore, I attended Baruch because tuition was covered through scholarships and financial aid. Although Baruch provides a great education, I realized that I was not driven to pursue actuarial science. Later on, I discovered that pursuing computer science at NYU was the perfect fit for me.

Aside from the beautiful and quirky campus that let cats walk on the campus many things drew me the Hofstra. I thoroughly enjoyed that it is a short train ride from campus to Manhattan. It is my desire to attend Wofford College because I believe that its distinguished environment will foster my endeavor to be successful. Wofford's liberal arts curriculum will be beneficial as I step out into the world. I will have garnered a diversified and knowledgeable background. I will be able to fluently communicate and relate to others of various backgrounds. Additionally, the small, private setting is exactly what I am searching for. The award of a small class setting provides for an amazing opportunity to engage in lectures and have close relationships with professors.

Hofstra University offers a variety of opportunities for the future that I envision for myself. After hours of research, I have decided that Hofstra is among the universities that I would like to attend because of the various educational options that are available. From the various internships to working opportunities in one of most well-known locations in the world, Hofstra University offers a unique experience that no other college can offer. As an aspiring business student, I believe that attending Hofstra will dramatically benefit my future because Hofstra University has one of the best business programs in the nation.
