Regent’s Park and the surrounding area is the product of extensive planning and represents an interesting time for London’s development; even today it is considered the greatest planning scheme in London’s history. The land that makes up the park was originally a forest known as Marylebone Park and had been used by both royalty and farmers before the Regent development projects began in the early 1800’s. This development included Regent’s Park, Regent’s canal and Regent Street; all part of the grand scheme planned by architect John Nash and approved by the Prince Regent. The original plans for the park were extravagant and included more than 50 villas in the park along with several other structures including a church and a pleasure palace …show more content…
The leases for the farmlands of Marylebone Park were signed for 150 years and set to expire during the year 1811, the same year in which the Regency began. The Regency Era began when George IV became the Prince Regent in 1811 due to his father King George III’s becoming unfit to rule. The Prince enjoyed living a lavish and extravagant lifestyle and had a desire to create grandeur in arts and architecture while in power. The Regency may have officially ended in 1820 when Prince Regent became King George IV, but the era of Regency Architecture has loosely defined boundaries and can be considered from the beginning of the 19th century until 1830 when King George IV died. Regency architecture evolved out of the Georgian era and typically uses very similar forms although details in materials, decoration and movement became more important in the Regency era. One of, if not the most iconic architects of the Regency period is the architect for the Regent’s Park scheme, John Nash. John Nash was architect for the government offices of Woods and Forests when the Prince Regent came to power and Nash’s scheme for Regent’s Park was presented almost immediately. The plan appealed to the Prince Regent who was impressed by the extravagant nature and stated that his developments of London, ‘will quite eclipse Napoleon’. John Nash impressed the Prince and became the advisor on architecture, allowing him to
Prospect Park is a 585-acre park located In Brooklyn, a borough in New York City. This borough in particular was in great need for an open space for activities and relaxation, which is exactly what this park provided. Parks are a very important piece of land to a town because it gives people the opportunity to improve their physical health and parks also help strengthen communities because it gives people more opportunities to interact with one another. Public parks are especially very important to have in a big city like New York City because a park gives people a chance to get out of the hustle and bustle, and relax and unwind. The two creators of Prospect Park named Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Bowyer Vaux also designed and created a park in Manhattan called Central Park. Central park is eight hundred-forty acres of city-owned land and is a piece of land that was much needed in 1857 when it was officially opened. Vaux and Olmstead became two well-known architects by building Central Park that soon became a big success, but didn’t equally benefit both the rich and the poor. Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead worked in a partnership to build Prospect Park.
Influenced by his readings of ancient and modern architectural writings, Jefferson gleaned the best from both his readings and from his observations in Europe, creating his own personal style of architecture, a mix of Neoclassicism’s Roman temples, and Palladian villa. Partly, because of Jefferson’s influence, our federal buildings set an American precedent for the neoclassical style. Jefferson’s admiration for neoclassical style went so far as to design
Since its construction in 1799, Ash-Lawn Highland underwent constant structural additions, renovations, and modifications for nearly 131 years. It is the scope of my research assignment to identify the various architectural styles and historical changes in the structure from 1799 to 1930.
On Wednesday 04/28/16 at 2239 hours I was driving in my patrol vehicle around the area of Lea Hill Park located at 31600 124th Ave SE in the City of Auburn, King Co, WA, when I noticed a vehicle with two occupants inside parked on the south side of the park.
I will first provide a description of the building and the architectural order of neoclassicism before moving on to consider why the architect used the classical style, the messages conveyed through that choice and

The year was 1943 and London was in the midst of realizing the extension of the damage caused after the Blitz, where German bombs were aimed at the Commons Chamber. Now, the Commons, alongside with Winston Churchill, had to rebuild the Chambers. That was when Churchill decided to maintain the old rectangular pattern of the room claiming that it was the cause for the English democracy system to be divided by two parties, saying the famous phrase: “We shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us” (Churchill, 1943). He was no expert in architecture or design, but he was wise enough to realize the importance of it in the interactions between humans and the environment. People’s lives occur around the buildings they build; it is only
For my observation I decided to go to the Wildwood Park in Vista. At the park, I was able to observe many children that ranged from 2-4 and 6-10. The children that ranged from 2-4 were very active by running around constantly and screaming loud continuously which made their parent feel more eager to watch every move they make. From this I was seeing the Preoperational Stage and a little of Language Explosion and Animism where the child is now developing feeling, thoughts and different kinds of characteristics.Whereas, the children that ranged from 6-10 were much quieter yet were still very much active by going on several swings and slides which indicates that were presenting accomplishments and the Concrete Operational Stage which means that
On Saturday September 3rd, between 6:30 and 7 I went to the Arlington Parks Mall to observe the movement of others. In that short period of time I observed at least a hundred people, some I analyzed closer than others. Despite the fact that I am a creature that produces movement as well, and am someone who is not new to seeing others in action, there were some new revelations that were made apparent to me about movement outside of the expectations I already had. (3) First and foremost, people’s movements, like the finger prints that we are born with are unique to each individual; movement is a rainbow of flavors, no person moves exactly like the next. When I was observing in the mall the first and most common movement I noticed was walking.
Questions might be, 1) Will it be a safe place for the dogs to play? 2) Will the fact the schools are so close to the dog park become dangerous or an issue? 3) Will the dog park meet the needs of all the local and unlocal dogs?
Princes, Sefton and Calderstone Parks to undergo maintenance and construction: Show how much money is being applied to each of the parks. Show what the money is going towards such as a Vitality Trail in Sefton Park and Nelson Mandela memorial on Princes Park lake island. Interview the new partner managing the parks and ask why they have decided to be involved. Show everything that will be covered by maintenance including cemeteries, lakes and water courses and the sporting facilities. Interview a member of public that uses the sports facilities or someone who uses the park regularly, preferably a parent who uses the playgrounds. Interview one of the managers of the sports facilities.
Throughout this essay I will explore to what extent Inigo Jones’s design for the Queens House was inspired by the works of Palladio and Palladian architecture and 15-16th century European architectural precedents, while also exploring the role the building played on the development of Neoclassical architecture on a wider scale. The Queens House represents the stylistic point of origin for the great imposing buildings surrounding Greenwich but also for Neo-Classical architecture in Britain more generally. The formative years of the designer, Inigo Jones (1573-1652) is largely unknown although its believed he trained as a joiner and received no formal architectural education. Its documented that in the year 1597 he visited Italy several
In all, the elements that primarily distinguished architects from builders are mainly economic standing and rhetoric of taste and invention, and education. Due to this, Upton believed master builders were prosperous and were typically motivated by “social distinction as a component of their professional success. In like manner, rhetoric of taste and invention differentiated architects from builders in that “taste might be acquired through ‘toil and study’..., but not in drawing school” (Upton, 61). Moreover, the key factors that contributed to the increasing professionalization of architects in eighteenth-century America are. Education, coherence in work, and the ability to communicate. With education, many were introduced to a “liberal-arts education, and eventually by moving professional education to the university, architects hoped to shake off their pesky rivals”(Upton, 63 ). For the socialization aspect of increasing professionalization of architects in eighteenth-century America, the
