How Did 9/11 Changed Our Society

There have been many turning points in American History; however none have the same effect as September 11, 2001, and many Americans relate the day to the country’s loss of innocence. As a result of 9/11 many American’s lives were affected emotionally, physically, economically, and politically.

9/11 was one of America’s most devastating attacks. The world had stopped to many, and it was also the blackest day in America. Around three thousand people died as a result of the attack. Debrid from the buildings covered the city after the collapsed. People were covered from head to toe in ashes, relying on each other in this time of need. Rescuers scoured about the city in search of survivors and even casualties, resulting in the death of many of the first responders. After the attack, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum was planned to commemorate those who lost their lives. 9/11 was a horrific event in history that will, hopefully, be investigated to find the true reason behind the attacks. A group of hijackers took control over four commercial jets flying out of the airport of the US. Two aircraft directed towards the direction of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center (WTC) in New York. All evidence that was found led to a radical Sunni Islamist group al-Qaeda being the culprit of 9/11. The attack represented a symbol; US’s power and influence collapsing like the Twin Towers, both having 110 floors collapsing causing extensive damaged to the area which surrounds them. Various other buildings were also destroyed in the wreckage of these towers. The total count of lives lost during 9/11 was close to approximately 3000 inclusive of the 19 who hijacked the plane. It was a record of lives loss based on the terrorist incident on US soil. The destruction of these two towers transformed the perspectives of the US forever, significant effect on world economic markets and confidence in the US immediately decreased. George W. It was nearly 10 years ago that a bright September day was darkened by the worst attack on the American people in our history. On the morning of September 11 2001, terrorists hijacked four planes from American Airlines and United Airlines with the goal of ruining the U.S economy. Two of the planes achieved their goal and targeted both towers of the World Trade Center along with the Pentagon, resulting in the death of approximately 2,975 people. The events that took place on this day had a great impact not only in America, but around the world as well. After this day there were major changes in air travel, new government regulations, and a financial crisis.

It has been ten years since the worst terrorist attack in the history of the United States. In the decade since the September 11, 2001 attacks, the U.S. has been entrenched in two ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Department of Homeland Security was founded, and Osama bin Laden, the alleged perpetrator of the attacks, has been killed. A day not any individual could fathom became a reality on September 11, 2001. On this date, America was under attack from four airplanes hijacked by nineteen Al-Qaeda members from the roots of an Islamic terrorist group. All four were aimed at United States significance: the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and the White House. The attack proved to be disastrous and nearly three-thousand lives were taken in a single day. This occurrence has shaped the United States drastically and how America is perceived today.

Due to the size of attacks, the exact number of casualties dead, missing, or injured is not known with certainty. The World Trade Center, the largest terrorist attack of the day, estimated 2,833 dead or missing. The hijacked planes had 157 dead. 92 were dead on American Airlines flight 11 and 65 on United Airlines flight 157.

Nearly three thousand people lost their lives due to this horrible tragedy. That evening, President George W. Bush stood unflinching as he condemned these acts of terror and reminded us all that “America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time” (CNN). Within the next few days, Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda were accused of orchestrating these acts of ‘terror’. Fast forward twelve years to a poll sponsored by ReThink911 where they found that ten percent of Americans do not believe the official government account of September 11th, and thirty-eight percent doubt the American governments official 9/11 story (ReThink911.org). This begs to wonder why so many Americans do not trust what the government has told them. What reasons would the United States government have for lying about September 11th 2001? How well could you re-call where you were, what you were doing or what happened on September 11, 2001? I know I can re-call every emotional, fearful and chaotic second of that day, today, 15 years later. Because of the events that took place on that day, “the day that changed America forever” we are still dealing with these unsolved serious issues. Fourteen years ago on September 11, at 8:46 a.m. on a beautiful tuesday morning, a plane struck the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. The unexpected crash killed hundreds of people inside instantly, leaving millions in shock. At 9:04 a.m. a second plane sliced into the south tower causing a massive explosion near the 60th floor. At 9:45 a.m. another plane struck the Pentagon military headquarters in Washington D.C., causing a portion of the building to collapse. Fifteen minutes after the plane struck the Pentagon, the south tower of the World Trade Center collapsed; at 10:30 a.m., the second tower collapsed killing close to 3,000 people. Lt. Col. Shelton F.
