The founding fathers had a good amount of reasons for rebelling against the British government and declaring independence. The Colonist felt that the government was not protecting their rights as citizens and lost the right to rule them. The taxation system wasn't fair and they were not represented in Parliament. Before the founding fathers decided to rebel against the British Government a few things happened. New taxes were a major issue for the colonist. Britain was in debt after fighting the French and Indian war and King George III and Parliament wanted the colonist to pay. They raised taxes on sugar, trade, tea, and legal documents. This wasn't fair to the colonist. The colonist resisted paying the taxes. They were upset because they
The american colonists justify in the waging war by the unfair rights, lack of land , and violation of the english rights. The american revolution was very unique because it was the first time they fought for their independence. In the american colonies there was lots of grievances against the king. The colonists knew what they wanted and knew what they were fighting for. The American colonists justified in Waging War and breaking away from Britain because the unfair rights the lack of land and the violation of English rights.
I believe one of the main economic reasons the Americans wanted to become free from the British and start the Revolution, was because of all the taxes the British imposed. In an anonymous account of the Boston Massacre printed by Order of the Town of Boston and found in www.vlib.us, the person retelling what occurred started off by saying, “[…] a happy union subsisted between Great Britain and the colonies. This was unfortunately interrupted by the Stamp Act; but it was in some measure restored by the repeal of it. It was again interrupted by other acts of parliament for taxing America; […]”. This anonymous person believed everyone was at peace and everything was completely fine until the British decided to add taxes to unnecessary things just to pay off the debt caused by the French and Indian war. The new taxes on everyday things made the colonies feel different from the British and that is not how it was supposed to be. They American colonies were supposed to feel equal to people in Great Britain but how could they if the people in Great Britain were not being unfairly taxed like they were. From a timeline acquired from www.memory.loc.gov and
Imagine your in a society where you have no say in government. There are taxes that are unfair and unreasonable, but you can't change them without heavy protest. You wouldn't like that, would you? Neither did the colonies. In the beginning, the colonies swore allegiance to the British and worked together to create a working society. The colonies helped England with wars such as the French and Indian war. After the war, the British needed a source of money to pay off their debt and looked to the colonies. They put unfair taxes and laws that were only in the British`s favor. More and more laws and acts were put in place such as the Stamp, Sugar, and Townshend act. As time went on groups of people, such as the Sons of Liberty, would revolt against the British. Eventually, the colonies revolted by dumping tea into the river known as the Boston Tea Party. Again, more acts were put in place to try to gain control over the colonies, but it finally led to a war called the Battle of Lexington and Concord. Although the colonies had a few advantages under British control, the disadvantages outweigh them. These include, but are not limited to
English colonizes were held under rule of the King and Parliament. As time went on the settlers began to search for independence. Taxation without representation was a leading cause for the fight for independence to commence. Eventually the colonists won their independence. The King and Parliament could of done a multitude of things to retain control of colonial affairs and minimize the trend towards independence and some policies may have succeeded, but the colonists truly believed they deserved freedom.
Around 1765, the British government gave the British colonists no voice. The colonists were oppressed with the high tariffs and taxes that were forced on them by the British government. The colonists asked the government not to do away with taxes, but to at least distribute them on different objects in order to make the taxes more fair. However, the government would not heed their requests. When the Sons of Liberty were created, the Sons united the
Taxation was one of the main cause the colonists wanted freedom from the British. The British imposed lots of tax of America because of the debt the French and Indian War caused for Great Britain. The British saw the colonies as a way to get money that can make up for the cost of the war. The Parliament of Great Britain
The American colonist were not justified in declaring independence from the british. The American colonist were not justified in declaring the independence from the british because the british wanted all the land and all the weapons. They wanted to be the biggest and the most overpowered army. They followed the Americans wherever they went. They followed them to new york and bombed their
Thomas Jefferson started the task of writing the Declaration of Independence between the dates of June 11 through June 28th of 1776 but was not signed by the congress until July 4th of 1776. The Colonist were fed up with the Britain government because they knew they were being mistreated. I like to think of the Declaration of Independence as a way of giving the people peace. This allowed the people the right to abolish the government, if they felt the government was not being truthful or if they were not upholding the laws. This in fact gave the Thirteen American Colonies an opportunity to part ways with the British Empire, they became independent as the colonies of the United States.
Originally, Americans did not want complete separation from Great Britain. Though the British protected the colonists with with their second to none army, several events and ideas led the colonists to declaring independence.
The American colonies chose to declare independence from Great Britain for many reasons. Britain passed many laws that the colonist did not agree with. The colonist believed they were being taken advantage of and that the British were treating them unfairly. The colonists did not have any representatives in Parliament who could vote on taxes that would affect them, they also had no voice in the British government. The colonist called the first Continental Congress in order to consider resistance towards the British. The resistance was led by Massachusetts, it formed revolutionary government and established militias to resist the increasing British military presence. On April 19, 1775 the British encountered a group of American militiamen at
In the Declaration of Independence we see the reasons why the American revolutionaries wanted to break away from Great Britain. Some of the reasons follow: the king was making the laws very harsh and did not make sense, he was not being fair with the people with taxes, so there was injustice, and the violence was unstoppable. These people had the bravery to stand up to their king and break away from Great Britain. The Americans new in their hearts that all men were created equal and that they had basic rights. Thomas Paine knew that Great Britain had only "Interest and no Attachment" and that she protected them "from Her enemies". It was necessary for them to declare their independence.
In early colonial history, from 1765 to 1774, there an increase of resentment from the colonist to the mother-land of Great Britain. This was due in part to the economic policies and the tax policies from Parliament and how the colonial leaders were pressured into declaring independence from Great Britain to protect their interests. Yet, on closer inspection there must be certain groups and movements that indirectly influenced the way the revolution occurred. Meaning that many of the “Founding Fathers” had a different idea than independence from Great Britain. We have known in American history that there was a general outcry of, “Taxation without Representation.” That statement implies a more economic variable in the American Revolution and
One reason that the colonists used to justify independence was that the king imposed unjust taxes and unjust trade laws on the colonists. The French and Indian war had just ended and the Treaty of Paris had just been created. The king created many taxes or acts such as the Sugar Acts, the Stamp Act, the Tea Act, and the Navigation Acts as a result of the French and Indian War. The colonists were very mad because this was taxation without representation, which means that the colonists weren’t able to choose representatives that could go to parliament to vote on the taxes and to voice the colonists concerns. As a result of their anger, the colonists
The unfair world the British brought upon the colonist. The British were in control, taking over, and making all the rules. Things were made to benefit the British while the colonist were left to sink. Many acts were passed against the colonist and the colonist were restricted from having certain rights. The founding fathers were justified in rebelling against the British government and declaring independence because of the way the British treated the colonist.
There were two major economic factors that help propel the colonist to declare independence the first taxes and the second being unfair trade policy. Following the War of 1763 Britain obtained new tracts of land from the French; this war had been costly to England. Now that the war was over England namely the parliament was looking for a way to payback some of the war expenses by taxing the colonists trading goods. The colonist looked at this as a lack of representation in Parliament and rested these taxes. They first protested then they boycotted the taxes, and finally in a bold act of defiance through tea into Boston harbor now known as the Boston Tea party. This in turn forced Britain to impose a naval blocked of the harbor causing more
