The session should be used as a community building exercise so that students become familiar with being in the school and have the opportunity to meet one of the school counselors and know where to find help.
Cover key issues about what is expected of the students as entering high school freshmen, discuss school rules and identify key people and places including their school counselor, school nurse, and principals. Address the importance of making two copies of their class schedule in case they misplace their original and give them a copy of important school numbers such as the main office, counseling office, attendance office, etc. It will also be beneficial to talk about joining one of the many school clubs and sports available to
To many freshman the first day of high school is the opening chapter of a new novel, a fresh start to a sometimes embarrassing middle school experience we would all just love to erase from our memories. August 13th, 2012 was the beginning of my four year long narrative at Cypress Bay High School. Despite my desperate desire to grow up, become an adult, and move far away from my parents for college all that did not seem possible because I had never previously attended a public school. I was struck with fear that I would not be able to adjust to the fast pace dynamics of a large high school.
Teaching Strategies: Discuss with the children the different facial expressions on the feelings chart. Afterward, l put the feeling match cards in the bag, have the kids take turns pulling cards from the bag; have them match the feelings cards to the matching feelings on the chart. In this essay, I'm going to give advice to the high school freshman class to help them out with their last four high school years and to help them be successful. The advice that I am going to give might and probably will help freshmen, whether they are in-coming or already enrolled.
Each individual has a variety of opinions regarding high school. Two people couldn’t reflect the same way because of differences in choices and experiences. I would advise them to focus on their grades from the beginning, but not let them take over all aspects of their lives. Staying organized and learning to manage their time will make classes more manageable. Having good relationships with your teachers could prove to be beneficial in the long run for scholarship and college application recommendation letters. The rising freshman class
This year I have taken the initiative and joined the Freshman mentor program. Every Thursday, I stand in front of my freshman class and try to guide them through their first year of high school successfully. I put myself out for them, telling them about my experiences, my mistakes. Not only do I tell them of my experiences, I show them others as well. This allows them realize they can exceed and become successful as well. Weekly, I engage them by asking for their opinions on certain topics , problems, and situations in school and encourage them to find ways to solve or improve those situations and problems. By allowing them to talk, express themselves, voice their opinions, I encourage them to start thinking, to develop problem solving
The counseling offices will also have an open door policy. The students will be able to come and talk to a counselor any time during the school day as long as they have permission from their teacher to leave class. Having an open door policy will allow the students to feel more
Do you feel that the moral values and principles taught to you by your parents and others as you were growing up still apply to your life now as an independent adult? If so, are you comfortable living by them? If not, how have you and your values changed? Also introduce yourself to your classmates. Tell a little bit about yourself- where you are from, what your major is and what your plans are when you graduate?
Read the poem “Five green and speckled frogs”. Read it once out loud with them. Then pass out the little cards paper clipped together to random students. Have them find the words that match the sounds in the poems.
The students and staff are provided with a handbook that states the schools vision, it’s mission statement, the school's philosophy and rules and regulations of the school.
within my school community. A way we have gotten students to be better contributors to the school
Incoming Freshmen reflecting on my first semester, some things that you might want to think about when coming into the High School. Teachers are one of the main concerns that I had when coming into the High School. Some people are nervous about oh are these good teachers or are these bad teachers. I do have to say there is a very wide variety of teachers here that have different standards. Also the schedule I advise that you try and memorize it as quick as you can. Once you memorize your schedule you are able to navigate the hallways much easier to navigate. It really helps when you want to get from point A to point B without getting a tardy. If your nervous about the work your going to be given wether its harder or if you given a lot more
Graduating from high school is what every student is looking forward to. However, going to college is a big accomplishment for all students. The first day of freshman high school and college feels the same, the excitement and pressured. As many students experienced, both high school and college could be compared their similarities. First, both students in college and high school are expected to behave in well mannered, attend to every class on time, and respect the teachers or professors. Second, being prepared in class is needed for the success whether the students are in high school or college. Third, high school and college allow the students to figure out and pursue their career. In contrary, high school and college have a lot of differences to each other. Unlike high school, students in college can choose a college they would prefer, they can manage their own time, and students be able to learn how to balance their responsibilities and priorities.
Place a box in the back of their classrooms that will allow students to place recyclable items in throughout the day.
There are several functioned emotions that will be analyzed in this paper. Psychological emotional arousal and cognitive activity can be very important. At least two historical theories of emotion and arousal as they relate to human motivation such as; American psychologist Stanley Schatcher as well Jerome Singer’s theory will be examined. There will be at least two research methods used for uncovering basic emotions analyze such as; Johnson-Laird and Oatley. Facial feedback hypothesis, particularly the event-appraisal-emotion sequence will be discussed as well. Other information and knowledge will be shared and discussed too. There are different expressions in an individual that can sometimes or most of the time determines
In Kouli, Bebetsos, Kamperis, and Papaioannou (2010), their gaps are centered around looking at different emotional aspects the athlete already has. Instead of only the four emotion categories of ____ it is stated that the research on the future should advance the four emotional categories and look at the possibility of an athlete experiencing anxiety or what their motivational factors are, such as whether it is intrinsic or extrinsic (Kouli et al., 2010, p. 194). Likewise, Grandjean, Taylor, and Weiner (2002) wanted to look at confounding variables that may have influenced the results. Despite the vault being the wrong measurement, the possibility of other factors being present amongst the athletes is not unlikely. Those influencing factors could be unreported injuries, expectations (to win or lose), and being overextended or exhausted from the competition (Grandjean, Taylor, & Weiner, 2002, p. 322). Fransen et al. (2015) had many points in the discussion section that suggested ideas for future research. The first being that future research may investigate how perceptions of previous performances, persuasive actions of the coach or athlete leaders, and by the enthusiasm expressed by the team members affect players’ team confidence within a game and as such the subsequent team performance (Fransen et al., 2015, p. 229). They also mentioned the idea that a future study uses different information gathering methods.
